Man I love this album. Great live show sound. Good space jam in there too. I loved seeing these guys in concert several times

Good Place to Start. I'm new to The Dead. Just started collecting and this was my first venture into live territory. Great recordings and a great collection of songs. It's been a perfect jumping off point for me as I'm sure it would be for others. "We can share the women, we can share the wine." Enjoy!

the best album. every song on this album is great, but jack straw really shines

China Cat Sunflower- one of the best. Before there was Dick's Picks there was only a handful of live Dead shows available commercially in a high quality format- everything else was live tapes being traded- which is still going on today- AMEN! This was one of those recordings that was available. And for a long time this was in heavy rotation in my home stereo (along with "Live Dead" and "Skull and Roses"). Even though this is not one show, but rather a mix of songs from the Europe '72 tour, it flows really well. I can't help but to use this version of "China Cat Sunflower" as the standard to judge all performances of that song. Maybe it's because it was the only live version I had access to for a long time (pre Dick's Picks and no tape trading friends back then). There are other one of a kind performances too, including "Jack Straw", "He's Gone"(one of my favorite versions), and "Morning Dew" (goosebumps!). Oh, what the heck, they are all great! Now, put aside the great performances, this is an incredible quality mix and recording. Considering this is from 1972, it's better then many recordings from the 80s and 90s. I think this is why a lot of people may have gotten "hooked" on the Grateful Dead's live sound after listening to this album without ever seeing them live. It opened up a lot of ears to what this band was all about- the live performance and jam.
