Amazing performances of the Dead's best. Superb from start to finish. I realize the band did some "sweetening" to the vocals after the fact, but if you've ever found it hard to understand the devotion so many people still have to the Dead, this will help make things clear. The Dead were at their best when they were having fun, and besides maybe Dick's Picks 15, this may be the best example of that. The playing is consistently stellar, and the songs just shine with the kind of clarity they deserve. Sometimes it doesn't sound like a live album due to editing, but keep in mind that these are indeed live performances at one of the many peaks of the Grateful Dead, and marvel at them. My respect for this band is never ending.

Damned good, though not strictly "live". When they got home from Europe, the Dead set up all of the sound equipment they had used on tour ("to capture the ambience") and put down additional tracks which they mixed into the tracks that were recorded on the road, thus filling in the holes and some of the rough edges encountered on the tour. The result was perfection, but not purely live.* Don't let that turn you away from this album, you won't find a better live album by this or any other band. *Scully & Dalton, "Living With the Dead," page 228.

Almost perfect. The only thing missing on here was Mickey Hart. Id buy the one with the bonus trax also.

One Of The Best. This is definitely one the best Dead offerings. The band is clearly clicking on all cylinders here. The muscianship is amazing. Jerry's guitar work is off the charts and the vocals are great as well. The China>Rider is the best I have heard from the band -- Jerry is unbelievable. Morning Dew, Jack Straw, Mr. Charlie, Brown-Eyed Women are all stellar. You can't go wrong.
