This album Epitomizes what the Dead were about. The performances on this album are brimming with country twang and jazz improvisational sensabilities. It is almost like a companion album to its predecessor, Skull & Roses. They are both live and represent the extremes of the Dead's live catalouge, but they have different songs. Europe '72 has more of a fuller sound, due to the addition of pianist Keith Godchaux. Pigpen also plays much more organ on this one than he did on Skull & Roses. Garcia, Lesh, Weir, and Kreutzmann are at their peak here, as they were on Skull & Roses. Every song is a classic. Buy it.
