AmAzIng.. I LOVE this soundtrack. I saw Into The Woods with this cast on broadway and it was sooo incredible. The music is so simple and fantastic and the same time. I'd DEFINETLY recommend this to all broadway lovers and theater fans <333
NOT AND NEVER AS GOOD AS THE ORIGINAL!. How did this musical win best revival? Basically this does not compare to the original and never will, and Bernadette Peters kicks Vanessa Willaims's butt as the witch any day!
Lots of hate for some reason. Crazy the amount of hate for this version. Is it the original? No. Should it be? No...why would anyone want an exact copy of another production? There are aspects I like a lot better in the original version, but this one shouldn’t be brushed aside so quickly. First: Our Little World is an amazing song, and I can’t believe it’s not included in more productions. It’s beautiful and gives more character development to both the witch and Rapunzel. Second: Hello Little Girl: this being more of a duet between two wolves is interesting, gives more of s creeper vibe. Third: While they cut my favorite line from last midnight and replaced it I think it still sounds amazing. I think Vanessa, Bernadette, and Meryl all have very different Interpretations of the song, and all three are amazing. Don’t fall into the closed minded theatre person trap and write this recording off...it’s a great listen, and the quality is super clear as well since it did come out 15 years after the original.
better than junior, worse than the original broadway cast.... I would like to start this out by saying Sondheim and Lapine are musical prodigys. The lyrics in ITW are so intelligent, and the 80's, a time of change, was the perfect time to present the OBC. In the past year I was in ITW jr. and ITW the way the OBC presented it. The revival cast just couldn't amount to the amazing performances, especially Joanna Gleason and Bernadette Peters', whose performances totally blew me away. Junior just totally butchered the play and took away some context that is really vital for a truly amazing show. Overall, this CD is good, but it's no OBC.
Please take note.... This recording had its moments in which I felt a little disappointed. But, overall, I think they did a great job. I have read through what other people have said about this recording, and by the looks of it, some was just outright arrogant. I agree, the original cast recording will always be the better of the two to me. But, like most of us, we grew up with that cast. And, with every revival, things change. There are different interpretations, different actors, directors, and in this case new songs. If you are a director or musical director of this show, or even someone comparing the two, it is important to realize what production you are doing. This cast has a far larger cast and new important characters, ie Snow White is now a lead in a sence instead of just a one liner. So, dont listen to this and say to yourself, this was nothing like what the high school did without knowing what production they did. And, if you are directing the show. It is important for the cast to listen to different recordings. If they just listen to one, it encourages them to act and sing just like they did in the recording. This fails to allow them to create and make their own character. If they listen to both, even one that you may think is a poor recording, it will encourage them, to pick out parts they like and do not like and therefore also encourage them to come up with some of their own ideas. So, even if you are a fan of the original, this is still worth buying, it will make you a better listener and encourage analysis and critique
