Laura Benanti & Christopher Sieber are Wonderful!. Overall this soundtrack is by far no where CLOSE to the original, but this cast did not lack talent of their own. Jack, Red, the Baker, and The Witch are all weak, but there is certainly something to be praised in Laura Benanti's version of Cinderella. Cinderella was my least favorite character in the original production, but Laura's version endeared the character to me more so than it had been. Both Princes in this version are very talented as well, and their performances were strong! And though no one can compare to Joanna Gleason in the role of the Baker's Wife Kerry O'Malley does come close. And who can deny that Christopher Sieber is a wonderful broadway talent? He's performance as Rapunzel's Prince is truly wonderful. I say it's a worth the buy if only for Laura and Christopher.

Not as Bad as Everyone says!!!!!. I agree with all who say that the original broadway cast was better because it was.And the orchestrations in the prologue is a bit out there and sounds dumb but...Of course this version might get a little more critique on it because it's the revival and can't compare to the original and it's not supposed to.This cast is great I love Laura Benanti as Cinderella and Melissa Dye as Rapunzel, her voice is beautiful,Vanessa Williams is good as the Withch, and Molly Ephraim is cute as Red Ridding Hood. The singers sound great. All I say is that people should really examine the great work of this piece because there are worse. This is a great piece well done.!!!!

Deeply obnoxious.. Shrill, flat, lowered keys, improper stage breathing, weakly sustained notes that go out in feeble breaths towards the end, a lack of vocal skill for vibratos all around, and mismatched casting choices with zero chemistry that can sensed... this production suffered from mid-quality talents and an unwillingness to allow cast members to be stars. Ensemble pieces are best when comprised of two or three stand out performers and everyone in a team effort to support in a high quality manner but restrained well. That's why they're known as supporting roles. When these people aren't struggling to drown one another out, they're struggling to hold their own. It isn't because of who Williams is that she cannot carry this iconic role, it's because of who she isn't. I'm not blindly advocating for the original Peters bandwagon, but Peters has an ability to own the stage with energetic conviction and a comprehension of character that resonates, plus her voice is unusual but skilled and big. Original Gleason had a finesse in earnestly portraying a dutiful wife who believes in her own worth and works for a better life in spite of her station, with complex motivations and a well-meaning nature that is never too lost to the audience. She ain't just a ho who whines until she cheats on her husband and gets hers in the end. Everyone else in this production does, as I've stated, a fair job, but were unable to own their roles. Just jarring, flowless, and cringeworthy in its lack of heart and soul. They seemed so excited to be a part of Into The Woods to boost their own careers that they didn't immerse themselves into the actual job of living up to its excellence.

very good. While I do think that the original broadway cast recoding is the best recording of into the woods this recording of the new broadway cast is also a very good one and I do recomend it.

Not That Bad. Yeah, it's not the original. But it's not as bad as a lot of people think. There are some things I like in this version than I do in the original. For example the song "Our Little World" establishes more of a loving connection that wasn't there in the original. I have heard that this version did stink and I can see why. But I don't think, at least listening to it, that the whole album is a bunch of crap. You also have to take into consideration that there differences between what they sing on stage and what they record. I hear a lot of differences between the original album and the video recording of the performance in 1991. So don't bring it down so much, give it a little chance!!!

Newer isn't better. Oh, this is a horrible rendition of one of my favorite Sondheim plays. Sadly, the original Broadway cast version ( with Bernadette Peters and Joanna Gleason belting out the memorable songs) is not available on itunes. I am so sorry I bought this instead. It sounds like a Middle School production!

amazing cast. i was in this musical last year my high school did it i was snow white i love this version vanessa williams does the witch part alot more better than bernadtte peters i mean i like her version but vanessa william's version is better. my favorite songs is i have to say well all of them. i was paired with rapunzel's prince and me and him are really good friends now. some of my friends tell me that me and him make a good pair on stage and should be paired up again if we both get parts and get a part that pairs up. thats how good we were i hope whoever gets this enjoys the music i cant stop listening to the music i love it

Bah Humbug. I had purchased this thinking it was the Original Broadway Cast. I am very disappointed with the fact that iTunes does, in fact, not have the Original Broadway Cast. As I listened to some of the music, I was somewhat confused as it did not match any libretto I found. Then, I found the actual movie of Into the Woods with the Orignal Broadway Cast. Bernadette Peters is great in that, but this recording pales in comparison to that. However, it's not so bad, it's just that I prefer the Original Broadway Cast. :( Joanna Gleason is a great Baker's Wife. :]] But, this is a good album, it's just not what I thought it would be. :(

it's not THAT bad. The only thing I found extremely dissappointing was the witch. No one, and I mean no one, can compare with Burnadette Peters. And yes, I am biased. But the rest of the CD is pretty good, and the orchestra does a great job. It's not as good as the Broadway cast, but it's still darn good, which is probably due to Sondheim's greatness.

Into the Woods. This is my favorite musical of all time and i have to say that i did not enjoy this recording as much as the original. it sounds to as if they did not take the meaning behind the words seriously. I tend to agree with all of the negative reviews of this cast. I read one review where the writer said that it was because many people grew up with the original cast, but i can say that i did not and i thoroughly enjoy the original more than this. This is not meant to bash this recording by any means i just belive that this take on the music is shallow and well, fairytale like.

A Creative Reimagining.. Those who are looking for the original cast album, should be dissapointed, it is not the same thing. Though the songs are the same the cuts are cleaner and the audio levels aren't as jumpy. Plus Vanessa Williams and Bernadette Peters sound nothing alike. So It is a different but excellent revival of a classic broadway favorite.

Oh no. No, this is just terrible. I don't know what happened to Sondheim. This is just one of the worst shows ever. Stupid plot, bad actors, but worst of all, horrifically bad music.

Okay. Weird.. Right. Not only was this cut and changed from the original, but some things are just plain dumb. An electric drum machine behind the witch's rhythmic monologue? Yes, I know it's supposed to be 'rap-style', but I think we can leave the bad 80's percussion out of it. I've never seen this version performed; does the witch breakdance as well? However, the performance of 'Last Midnight' has a haunting quality that I quite like. If I had my druthers, I'd return most of the album but keep that song in spite of some re-written lyrics. I do wish the complete original cast recording were available.

it was awsome. it was the funniest play. I love all of the songs it was wicked AWESOME. It has to be the #1 play and sound track in my list!

So cool. I was happy to see that I-tunes has Into the Woods. Me and the rest of my orchestra went and saw it when we went to seattle. Love the play and the music. Sounds just like the new version that i saw.

slightly disappointed. I did not buy this cast's album but from listening to the samples on iTunes im happy i bought the original cast album. I think Vanessa Williams was a poor choice for the witch. Its impossible to touch Bernadette Peters' performance [shes amazing] and i dont think Vanessa came close. I think the baker's wife sounds too sweet. shes kind but shes also smart and independent and she sounds too sweet. and i just dont really like this Jack. I love the original Jack. He might be my favorite male character in the show. this guy is disappointing. i love this show though. i was just in it recently and i played Jack's mother. the original cast version was very helpful. =)

it's okay, but kind of strange. i guess this is good, but this musical is really weird. i saw it. the wolf is, like, a total creeper and the scene with little red riding hood right after that is really awkward.

Wonderful. I am in the play "Into The Woods" and it is phenominal. The tunes are great and i love to watch the others practice their songs. Please click yes if you want itunes to put on the broadway show of "Into The Woods"

When will it end?. To all of you out there who are asking yourself "Should I buy this?", I would say no. I bought it, only because an entire "Into the Woods" album, as the origional cast recording is only a partial album. The revival cast was horrible, and this was not worth my money. If you want the origional cast recording, do what I did. I bought it at my local Borders and put it on my computer. Once again, don't buy this.

Not as good as the original - and changed orchestrations. Having played this show, I was looking forward to hearing this version of the show. Needless to say, it's not nearly as good as the original. Some of the orchestrations have been changed, for the sake of what I don't know. Some of the songs seem in different orders vs the actual show order, maybe it's just how it downloaded from iTunes. Save your money, get the original.

Please take note.... This recording had its moments in which I felt a little disappointed. But, overall, I think they did a great job. I have read through what other people have said about this recording, and by the looks of it, some was just outright arrogant. I agree, the original cast recording will always be the better of the two to me. But, like most of us, we grew up with that cast. And, with every revival, things change. There are different interpretations, different actors, directors, and in this case new songs. If you are a director or musical director of this show, or even someone comparing the two, it is important to realize what production you are doing. This cast has a far larger cast and new important characters, ie Snow White is now a lead in a sence instead of just a one liner. So, dont listen to this and say to yourself, this was nothing like what the high school did without knowing what production they did. And, if you are directing the show. It is important for the cast to listen to different recordings. If they just listen to one, it encourages them to act and sing just like they did in the recording. This fails to allow them to create and make their own character. If they listen to both, even one that you may think is a poor recording, it will encourage them, to pick out parts they like and do not like and therefore also encourage them to come up with some of their own ideas. So, even if you are a fan of the original, this is still worth buying, it will make you a better listener and encourage analysis and critique

Into the woods it's time to go, you have to get this album!. Even though this is not the original cast recording, i think that it is absoulutley AWESOME! I think the title really says it all. If you're not going to buy the album, at least buy Agony[ reprise] Hello Little girl AND Your fault

Into the woods and out of the woods, and home b4 dark!!!!. OMG into the woods was amazing, the music is fantastic and catchy, i bought these songs off itunes bc i was in my school's production of into the woods as sleeping beauty and the music was really fun to sing, not to mention that it was such a fun musical to preform with my friends, we still laugh about some of the songs that we sang and the lines we reheased, but this is a must have if you love the play!!!

into the woods. I think this is a very fun cd and play

ok.... some of the songs are pretty good, but the vocals aren't stellar. my school did this musical and some of our leads were better than these.

please understand why there's one star. I'm not one to not like music from broadway and I feel lots of guilt giving this one star but the people who sing this just aren't good. I love the music but the singers, well, you get it.

High school play sounded better....... Saw the play recently and was astounded to find how talented the singers and actors in my school are, went to go buy it off iTunes and was sorely disappointed. It's clear that the singers lack the personality that an actor should assume. Agony and Last Midnight were exceptionally poor in comparison to what I heard. (By the way, yes, I do go to a public school and not a magnet school either.)

Minor Flaws but generally NOT BAD!!. Yes this recording has some flaws.. Yes, it doesn't stand up to the OBCR BUT it is good. let me give you a character profile Narrator: Revival...John McMartin does a much better job than Tom Aldrege.plain and simple Witch: ORiGiNAL... Bernadette Peters is totally bettter than Vanessa Williams BUT Vanessa isn't horrible she just plays the Witch a different way Cinderella: Revival..BY FAR!!! Laura Benanti is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy way way better than Kim Crosby Jack: Revival... neither are bad but Adam Wylie just seems more in character Baker: Revival...they both play it the same way but Stephen DeRosa has a better voice than Chip Zein Bakers Wife: Original...i went into this recording with a clear mind of the OBCR but Joanna Gleason just kept coming back... Kerry O'Malley usn't bad but just can't get Joanna out of my head Little Red Riding Hood: Original... Dannielle Ferlander just has a better voice for the part than Molly Ephriam neither are bad Cinderella's Step-Family: REViVAL!!... they are sooooo much more mean/campy mean on this one than the OBCR Wolf: Original... Gregg Edelman can't get the Wolf down like Robert Westenberg did Cinderella's Prince: Original Rapunzel's Prince: Revival Jack's Mother ORiGiNAL yeah overall this recording isn't bad but the Original is better.

No!. Ok. I just want to start off by saying that I LOVE ITW. It is by far my favorite sondheim musical of all time (if not my favorite). I listened to the original broadway cast and everything was golden. I thought "well a revival of one of my favorite musicals. this should be great!" Famous last words. This not only ensemble-wise paled in comparison to the original, but Most of the actors in it were Horribly suited for the parts. I'll admit, Laura Benanti (Cinderella) Stephen deRosa (Baker) and Kerry O' Malley (Wife) were great. But the rest were simply pathetic. Vanessa Williams was just not good or suited for the role. I like her voice in general, but honey, stick to r&b. What was with the weird percussions in Beans Beans? This is NOT an R. Kelly video! Chris Seiber and Gregg Edelman as the princes.... I love both of these actors, but they just couldn't justify the incomparable Robert Westenberg and Chuck Wagner. Jack and Little Red just couldn't sing! They COULDN'T!! Still Nothing can compare, especially with the baker and the baker's wife even though they were great, to the absolutely untouchable performances of Chip Zien, Joanna Gleason, and, of course, Bernadette Peters. If there were negative stars, I would give it. TRUST ME!

Fun Play!. I am doing this play at my middle school, and it is very fun! It is an interesting story made of many stories, so you get it right away. It's fun to sing along with the songs, even if they do sing very high! I suggest you watch the production first, because that is what makes the songs enjoyable.

No emotion.. I'm serious... there is seriously not enough emotion in the singing all throughout the album. They're singing the music like it's bland. It's like they don't understand what they are singing half the time. It's like they aren't feeling the emotion and flow of the music. Sure they're hitting all of their notes but the emotion is just not there. Bland and boring singing. There is a reason why everyone loves the origional. The actors who were on the broadway show actually understood what they were singing and how to keep the emotion in the music and how to keep it sustained through out the musical. and again I say... bland, boring singing not enough emotion.

Incomparible. Into The Woods has been my favorite musical for many years. It is by far my favorite work of Sondheim. In the original cast, Bernadette Peters captures the oddness of the which perfectly with her unique nasaly tone. Vanessa Williams is incomparible to Bernadette Peters. I do indeed love Laura Bananti as CInderella, but come on- how can you screw up cinderella?

Which witch is which?. How can you have a recording of Into the Woods without Bernadette Peters? She is amazing. Sorry, but Vanessa just doesnt cut it for me. Stick with the original.

Prolouge. I love this album but i just wish they wouldn't make you get the whole cd for the prolouge song

Wait for the Original. I'm doing a performance of this for my skool this summer and it is better than this wait on it. If you can't wait you can go on Youtube and search "Into the Woods Act I Part I" and the person who does that has the entire original cast performance of it on there and it's awesome. anyway if you find this helpful say so, so that they will get the original

Worth Owing for Sonheim Fans. I loved this revival. While not the OBC, I think the cast is top flight. I do question some of the changes made but that is the director and Sondhiem experimenting. If you are a fan of Sondheim you need to make this version part of your collection.

Williams Doesn't Compare to Peters. I'm sorry the best version HAS to have Bernadette Peters. Vanessa Williams is a great talented actress, but I"m sorry. She just doesn't hold a candle next to Bernadette. The absolute best version of this is the 1987 Original Broadway Cast Recording which includes... BERNADETTE PETERS. You can also get the video off the net as well. I suggest viewing that over and over again!! Truly one of the best musicals ever written! Please, please, please get the original cast recording on here, iTunes!!!

better than junior, worse than the original broadway cast.... I would like to start this out by saying Sondheim and Lapine are musical prodigys. The lyrics in ITW are so intelligent, and the 80's, a time of change, was the perfect time to present the OBC. In the past year I was in ITW jr. and ITW the way the OBC presented it. The revival cast just couldn't amount to the amazing performances, especially Joanna Gleason and Bernadette Peters', whose performances totally blew me away. Junior just totally butchered the play and took away some context that is really vital for a truly amazing show. Overall, this CD is good, but it's no OBC.

Umm....no.. Well, let me start off by saying that Into the Woods is one of my favorite musicals. I love it. It appeals to audiences of all ages, it is witty, the music is spectacular and original. This album loses most of that in the translation. Bernadette Peters is basically my idol. Joanna Gleason was made for her role and her interpretation was perfect. Original Little Red (name?) was superb, mostly because she wasn't ACTUALLY a twelve-year-old. Vanessa Williams has not at all claimed the witch role as her own, and that's one that needs to be grabbed by the horns! I am fourteen, so for anyone who says that this album appeals to the younger crowd, that's not always the case. Don't waste your money on this; but absolutely buy the original.

Yawn!. Well, this is nothing compared to the OBC. Williams is pathetic compaired to Peters was in OBC. I would buy the OBC because it is so much better than this recording. Oh well, the music is still wonderful though. Sondheim is wonderful

WHAT THE HECK!. This is a Horrible Album, The Actors ruin the Charecters! If I could I wouldn't even give it one star! Just go to a CD Store and by the Original Cast... They're 5 stars!

What is This?????????. This album STINKS!!! I saw the musical and this album is Crap!!!!!!!! Have you heard the witches voice. It's not nearly as great as the witch (Bernadette Peters) voice. i just have to say who are these people trying to sing like the people in the musical?? This album STINKS and i'm begging you not to listen to it. There are some of the songs that aren't SO bad, but other than those songs the rest STINK. so if you're getting ready to buy the album listen to ONLY one, I REPEAT, ONLY ONE song and you'll know what i mean.

AWESOME. Oh.My.Gosh. This is SUCH a GREAT album!!! I LOVE THIS MUSICAL! Im in this musical at my school and everything about it is GREAT!! I love the music.

Lots of hate for some reason. Crazy the amount of hate for this version. Is it the original? No. Should it be? No...why would anyone want an exact copy of another production? There are aspects I like a lot better in the original version, but this one shouldn’t be brushed aside so quickly. First: Our Little World is an amazing song, and I can’t believe it’s not included in more productions. It’s beautiful and gives more character development to both the witch and Rapunzel. Second: Hello Little Girl: this being more of a duet between two wolves is interesting, gives more of s creeper vibe. Third: While they cut my favorite line from last midnight and replaced it I think it still sounds amazing. I think Vanessa, Bernadette, and Meryl all have very different Interpretations of the song, and all three are amazing. Don’t fall into the closed minded theatre person trap and write this recording off...it’s a great listen, and the quality is super clear as well since it did come out 15 years after the original.

Agony.. This is not the original broadway cast. Sometimes revivals far outshine their predecessors; this does not. And you can't replace Bernadette Peters, it just doesn't work. This is one of my favorite musicals in the entire world and why iTunes decided to put up this version is beyond me...

NOT AND NEVER AS GOOD AS THE ORIGINAL!. How did this musical win best revival? Basically this does not compare to the original and never will, and Bernadette Peters kicks Vanessa Willaims's butt as the witch any day!

Fun, Deep, Touching, and most of all...AMAZING!!!. this is one of the best musicals in broadway history. it is so amazing. not only is the music great, but the deepness and symbolism might really make this show the level of greatness it is. so the plot is that there's all these fairy tales that everybody knows like cinderella, little red riding hood, and jack and the beanstalk. but then there is the story of the baker and his wife which is the story that really ties all of these fairy tales together. the baker and his wife want a child, but they are placed on a spell by a wicked witch that prevents them from having a child. they have to go on a journey that takes them "into the woods" to find the cow as white as milk, the cape as red as blood, the hair as yellow as corn, and the slipper as pure as gold. this witch is the witch in the story of rapunzel that ties in with the story of the baker and his wife. she is the charactor that really holds up the show. at times this show is very, very funny and clever, and at times it is sad, and at times it is soooo deep. it all gets confusing at the beginning because in the prologue they start out telling the story in a song which goes really fast. but after a bit you will catch on and you might even recognize a lot of the symbolism. at first, this show seems cute, but not amazing, but really, deep inside, it is amazing. here are the top ten best songs: (but they're all great) Finale - Children Will Listen Prologue: Into the Woods Lament No One Is Alone Stay With Me Last Midnight Hello, Little Girl Agony Any Moment / Moments In the Woods It Takes Two Honerable Mentions: No More I Guess This Is Goodbye / Maybe They're Magic So, at my school we are doing this show. And I wasn't sure about at first. They had an intrest meeting. And they explained the plot and played a little bit of the music. I thought at first that it was going to be nothing the previous show I was in at a big theater (which was Les Mis, which is obviously also one of the best shows on broadway) but i was wrong. it is almost as good. if not just as good. after i bought a few songs on the soundtrack, i started listening to them and i started to really, really like them. So i bought a few more and sooner or later i had the whole soundtrack and now i love it so much. it is a wonderful show. Lastly, if you're wondering what some of the symbolism is, the title, "Into the Woods" symbolizes the journey you have to take in life.

AmAzIng.. I LOVE this soundtrack. I saw Into The Woods with this cast on broadway and it was sooo incredible. The music is so simple and fantastic and the same time. I'd DEFINETLY recommend this to all broadway lovers and theater fans <333

Insulting 2 OBC!. I cannot stand the Revival of this beautiful show!!! It is so different from the OBC & is a slap in the face 2 all Into the Woods lovers!!! Wish I could give 0 stars!!! I HATE this revival. WORST REVIVAL EVAH!!!!

Awesome!!!!. best songs- 1. it takes two 2. stay with me 3. lament 4. last midnight 5. i know things now
