Great Album. This album is a must for anyone whose favorite Radiohead album was Kid A or Amnesiac. The compositions are remarkable considering this was Thom's work alone. However it seems to me that this album is Thom's most political to date, (i.e. The clock, harrowdown hill, And it rained all night, black swan, and especially Cymbal Rush). Almost every song on this album can be linked to global warming or politics. So maybe this was Thom's way to vent his frustration, or as others have suggested is his way to experiment with electronica/vocal combination. My favorite track has to be Cymbal Rush, tied with the artwork it is one of Thom's most gut-wrenching songs since he wrote Street Spirit (Fade Out). Don't be fooled by Thom's soothing vocals at times, this song is about suffering and destruction on a massive scale. To really get at its meaning, I would watch footage of Katrina's aftermath or the tsunami in Indonesia, which is what comes to mind when you read the lyrics. ALSO: check out the acoustic version of The Clock on youtube when he performed live on the Henry Rollins show, it is epic, and probably better than the original album cut.
it's a shame to be this talented. this album melts my little heart. Harrowdown Hill & Eraser are brilliant. I also love Black Swan. His voice fits with his eclectic style of instrumentation so beautifully.
A Thing of Beauty!. Thom Yorke has definitely proven himself to be a musician in his own right on this brilliant album. The songs are distinctively Thom Yorke, yet refreshing and transcendental to the ear. Absolutely an astounding achievement from one of the world's most iconic musicians, in my opinion. This album showcases his incredible vocal range and love for textured electronic soundscapes. The songs have the effect of making you feel like you are floating on crack. My favorite songs on the album are, "Black Swan", "The Clock", "Eraser" and "Analyse." Even music listeners who are not familiar with Yorke's work with Radiohead, will undoubtedly fall in love with this piece of work, as it certainly stands on its own.
Fantastic. "The Eraser" is really a fantastic album. Whether you're a Radiohead fan or not, this album is unique and brilliant on its own. It's very relaxing "chill music" that you're sure to enjoy. Definitely worth the $10.
Pure. Shoot me now, fans...because this album is a step above Radiohead's group work. Thom's delicate wavering falsetto and quasi-confessional lyrics really find their home in these intimate electronic tectures and beats. This is not filler material for Radiohead fans, it is a separate, and in my opinion superior, piece of work. Radiohead never sat well with me...always was too overblown, too self-consciously clever, too dreary for me. Thom Yorke won me over with this album...all the elements just come together beautifully, somehow turning that world-weary melancholy into something beautiful and pure. I think guitars and live drums get in the way of Thom's voice somehow--like he needs something less obviously organic in which to showcase his almost otherworldly vocals. Minimalist electronic music is the perfect medium for his vocals to really shine. This is a beautiful album. And I still don't like Radiohead, so just lynch me now...
