I Did It My Way. Why didn't Bob take this advice to heart. I was disappointed that he wasn't more original in his approach to these songs. After all, he is constantly changing the arrangements of his own songs! The straight forward 'crooning' with minimal accompaniment left me wanting more.

Sounds like Bill Murray doing a bad SNL satire.. Seriously, I’ve been a Dylan fan since he burst onto the airwaves and LP grooves. And Sinatra since the ‘50s. But this is really shamefully badly done. Close your eyes, and it could be anyone doing a bad impression of Dylan singing some Sinatra standards. I should have listened to these iTunes samples before buying the CD.

Good Old Bob. He's exploring- he's never had a top notch voice and he still doesn't. That shouldn't matter; he sings from his heart. You've got to dig deeper into this. Don't listen to the sound of his voice if you don't like it. I'm glad he's still doing the thing he loves best. Look at him go. I'm happy we still have a Bob Dylan. The world would be so different without him. I thank God for the songs he sings- every last one of them.

No Thanks. I'll spend my hard earned money elsewhere.. just. NO

Where is Bob Dylan. I love the Bob Dylan's sones of the 60's, 70's..... But now Bob is gone.....where is Bob Dylan?

Can't listen to it. These are not the type of songs Dylan should ever try to "sing". Dylan is best when he is performing his own music. I would prefer to here Sinatra sing these songs any day. Looking forward to the next Dylan album of new Bob Dylan penned material. God bless Bob Dylan, but this is not an album I can take seriously.

Dear bob. You will always be my hero. I love you, you're friend, don

❤️. ❤️

No joke! Beautiful renditions!. Well, I thought that this could only be bad. I was heavily pre-judging it based on my love for both Sinatra and Dylan - and intensely disliking Dylan’s Christmas album - which seemed like a stunt. But - listening to this album with open ears and open mind - I’m totally transfixed by it. The arrangements are original and beautiful and Dylan’s voice - well, he’s gone from the one note growl to something else entirely. He’s singing - with more heart and soul than you’ll find in a hundred newcomers. I know it’s gotta kill some of you to hear the Dylan who is sincere - who sings from the heart. But it’s all here. It’s utterly original - weary, heartbreaking, lost. Real instruments and decades of living all in the same room - creating magic. Anyone who says Dylan never had a good voice has no true understanding of the man’s talent. Let go of preconceptions of what this is “supposed” to sound like - and get into the depth of it - beautiful loss. Great album!

I Dig It. Tom Waits meets the aged Billie Holiday with some beautiful nod to the American Songbook. Doesn't make me want to go sky-diving but that's not the intent here. Layers of gold from the past served on a new plate. I dig it.

MarkyD. I have been a Bob Dylan fan for a long time. I have immense respect for the man as a songwriter and a musician. In fact, I think he is a very under-rated guitar player. His music has changed several times over the years I have enjoyed almost all of it. This album, however, is absolutely horrible. When people in the later stages of their careers do something out of left field like this project, or the Christmas album, I have to wonder if there is nobody around them, nobody close to them that can be honest and say, this is a really bad idea, or this does not sound good?

Refreshingly... Bad. Refreshing..because of the sound of the recordings. It is analog and lush and moving. Bad ...because the singer cannot sing. Yes he conveys a little emotion but his performance is mediocre and brings the music down. He seems infatuated with the songs and gets to sing them because he has pull in the music business from his past work in folk/rock. Well, la de da da, Bob is into Frank.. But if Frank were alive I highly doubt it would be mutual. Bob's interpretation is at best hi-fi karaoke. If this voice had been any non-famous person then the album would have a rare 5 star rating (from friends and family). The truth is that if you read the positive reviews they are almost all written by Dylan fans and followers. They will write anything positive of their has been hero... Even when the hero is no longer doing anything heroic.

Passion and innovation, ever Bob!. Thank you Bob for what you do and have always done! I'm so happy I bought this!

Sorry. Wanted so much to love this effort. Just left me so disappointed. I was surprised how bad it fell on my ears. Way too little, Way too Late. Dylan trashes the best of these songs.

I Don’t Know Which is Worse. The turn Dylan took in his career or the obsequious behavior of his current fans. It doesn’t matter what he does, they love it. If he starred in a soap opera they would consider it a brilliant comment on something or other. His voice wobbles when he tries to sing these songs, and the songs themselves are not brilliant statements about the nature of love, as Dylan asserts. They are sentimental tripe. He lost his way a long time ago. Poets don’t do car commercials. They really don’t. He’s not a poet. He’s a show biz guy, and not a very good one.

Shadow in the night. Superb

Bad!. I am sorry I wasted my money on this music. It is painful to listen to. Stick with Dylan and his old songs which I loved!

New and Classic at the same time.. I have been a fan of Bob Dylan for many years. I like Dylan's late albums and kind of accepted the fact that his voice is kind of blown out. He is a technically competent singer, but his vocal cords seem strained, NOT ON THIS ALBUM. He croons and his voice is as good as I have ever heard it. The song selection is a very slow jam and old old school, but the interpretation is new and classic at the same time. My favorite song over all so far is "Full Moon, Empty Arms." My favorite line presently comes from "Where Are You? "All life through Must I go on pretending? Where is that happy ending? Where are you?" Kind of makes me thing of God, Death and Love at the same time. Brilliant.

So Disappointed!. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Bob Dylan but this release is, at best, not at all good. I can’t expressed my disappointment. I read this recent interview in the AARP magazine and couldn’t wait to hear it…sigh.

Reverential and beautiful. This is a beautifully and tastefully performed rendering of classic songs from a different era and of course genre than which we normally associate Mr Dylan. It is genuine and thoughtful, is lovely to listen to, and those who criticize this reverential performance do not know or understand one of our greatest living American artists.

Excellent. I am enjoying it more each time I listen and it is great to have on vinyl

Well !. I love this side road bob has gone down but I also listen with some trepidation - I know bob never wanted to be the figure head of the anti war movement but he was - his music rang out Bob your fans love you man Trough thick n thin We will follow you into the void Fir now I'm kinda diggin' on this pop music that demonstrates a gentler side of your vocal expressions Sugarman

Is this a goof?. If I didn’t know better i would think this was a spoof or a put on. Impressive in its dreadfulness.

The experiment is a disaster, Igor!. Dyland was hitting them out of the park in the 60's with (6) 5-star albums (The Freewheeling Bob Dylan, Bringing It All Back Home, Another Side of Bob Dylan, Highway 61Revisted, Blond on Blond and John Wesley Hardin and maybe Nashville Skyline. The best of the 70's was Blood On The Tracks. This is an embarassment. He can't sing anymore and it sound lifeless. If you can hear the original Sinatra Capitol records in his prime with Nelson Riddle's Orch. and superb arrangements, why would you want this? I love Dylan. Dylan changed the way pop songs were written, but this experiment is a disaster, Igor! Two stars because it's Dylan out of respect for his career.

A student of American music. …is what Bob is—this is his interpretation(s) of classic American songs—his respect and love are evident—and that soft, thumping bass—beautiful stuff. I really respect Bob, but even I was ready to dismiss this. But, a funny thing happened—I listened to it more than once—Yes—he misses notes—but, as I suggested, his heart knows how to sing these songs.

Emperor naked. Ugh. The signs an aging rock star has run out of creativity, testosterone, or simply something to say? An all duets album ...or an all covers album. Run from this flaccid bomb! Gouge out your eardrums! Retire, Zimmerman, its over!

Dylan: I bought your first, I’ll buy your last, hopefully many years down the road.. I bought “Lucky Old Sun” to get a hint about the album, and with that first gravelly syllable I was transported to a head/heart/gut place I haven’t been in years. In fact, I don’t know that I believed I could feel “that way” any more. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Bob Dylan. You’ve never been better! Now, I’m going to click “Buy Album” and get ready for many hours of transportive listening.

Just...no. If you enjoy the standards, Frank Sinatra, or any type of music in general, steer clear of this album. If you are one to like anything with Bob Dylan's name on it, or you are deaf, you'll probably like this.

Why?. Does he need some cash? Likes to make people laugh and or cringe? Why? Why? Would he record these songs that one of the best singers in the last 100 years made immortal? So that everyone would feel sorry for one of the immortal song writers of the last 100 years has lost his voice- not a little but completely. He could have written ten new songs- and then selected 10 current artists to sing each one- that would let him show his real talent which was always writing songs - it was never singing or performing them. But - this effort only suggests his song writing gift has evaporated even more than his singing ability. The best word for this album of another man's great songs is - embarrassing. Some of you will tell yourself that this crackling, off key, nasal twang has some soulful redeeming value - but please if he didn't have some "famous" name the recording engineer would have been unable to stay in his chair due to laughter. Why is all I can wonder when listening to this ear traumatizing sound.

A+. he chose songs very well suited for his voice

Ugh. At first I was looking forward to Bob's interpretation of some of the songs from the American Songbook, but after previewing the songs, I have to admit he should stick to his own material which sounds so much more "authentic". As I listened to the previews I had to wonder, "What possessed him?" The smooth velvety voice from "Nashville Skyline" is gone and nothing here made me want to tap my toe. All in all, it was just torture to listen to. Sorry, Bob. I still love you though!

Horrible no, forgettable yes. Dylan should be Dylan. He should concentrate on writing great songs which he is still capable of. Anyone who thinks is greatness has never heard a Frank Sinatra 50s torch song album. Listen to Where Are You and then try and equate this work. Now Sinatra couldn't have made Blonde on Blonde or Time Out of Mind and when he stepped out of his arena and tried to do contemporary pop it was also mediocre at best.

For the haters. For those of you trashing Dylan's voice, have you listened to a Billie Holiday album lately? Not a voice you would hear on American Idol, but that's the point, isn't it? You either get it...or you don't.

Love!. Thank you Bob! I love you always. Please never stop being different.

Wow. I can't stop laughing!! Just painful!!! Hahaha

Really?. There's no other way to say - this was a horrible mistake! This is worse then Rod Stewart singing the "American Standards". It's also obvious his voice is not what it use to be.

Not Good !!. I have been a Dylan enthusiast for about 45 years but this is where I draw the line. I have tried to keep an open mind after listening to some of the album but this just isn't my cup of tea. I gave a chance to Modern Times and Time Out of Mind which I enjoyed but not Shadows in the Night.... Nope I just won't buy into this type of music !

10 tracks of the same boring stuff. Huge fan, but this is just boring and sounds like one long track of the same boring song.

:/. Oh boy

Caricature?. Dylan is a great artist and an American original. But is this album some caricature of the great American song book?

d.cook. I have been a Bob Dylan fan for years .Love a lot of his music. However his attempt at doing the standards is at best pittiful.Probably time for Bob to call it a day.He is only damaging a great legacy.

Don't classify it as "rock," iTunes. It's hard to let go of the idea of Bob Dylan as the James Dean of the '60s, but he has mellowed in recent years. His voice isn't good in any traditional sense, but his expansion into other musical genres is interesting, poignant at times, sometimes even comic (as in "Must Be Santa" on the Christmas album) to hear. I agree with the reviewer who said he'd listen to "Bob and his band sing the phone book" over 90% of contemporary pop.

Vocal heart and expression!. I'm so glad Dylan decided to do this. What could be better than his voice and expression doing such a well selected playlist of old crooner tunes? "What'll I Do" is such a beautiful melody, haunting, regretful, and bleeding in the heart. I'd buy this album for this tune alone. But there is so much more. Though Bob does not give many interviews, one just needs to listen to his music a little more closely. These stripped down songs are quite memorable and add another jewel in his crown of recently recorded albums since 2000. I love his more mature, swampy, bar room sound. Bob Dylan (still) is the MAN!

Sorry. I couldn’t get through it. Bad idea to do this because his voice is not capable of capturing the songs true essence.

Listen first before you decide to not like this album. Please, listen to this album first before you decide to not like it. Do not miss out on this GREAT album, please. This is music in its best. Get a good pair of headphones or some nice speakers and LISTEN TO this please.

Shadows in the Night. Like many folks I've been a Dylan fan for years. In my case the first album of his I bought was in 1963. I love Bob and all the incredible music he has done over the years. But this album is garbage in my opinion. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless it was somebody I didn't particularly like. Can't wait for new stuff Bob or even some of your older stuff redone, but this album.....well, nice try but ya missed on this one.

Absolutely Awesome. Billy Holliday, Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan better than rap crap.........

dsa. this is stupid an nonsensical. if any other artist released an album of sub standard covers it would be panned but since it's bob dylan, whom i admire and respect immensley, everyone acts like it was some genius and calculated career choice. Personally i think it's boring and definitley his most dated album since the mid ninties

Huge Dylan Fan Taking A Pass. I have been a Bob Dylan fan since the 60s and possess and enjoy his work. He has the freedom to sing and record any song of his choice. But, we fans have the choice to sample his art and then decide if we wish to add to our music collection. This album lacks musical range, impact, but does possess Dylan's character. I choose to take a pass.

Is it Christmas?. I never thought he could do worse than his Christmas album. Well…….he’s succeeded!

Meh. Repetitive, predictable cliché lyrics. Bob Dylan can do better.

Bob Dylan can sing. Who knew?. This is an unusual, for Dylan, but absolutely beautiful album. Imagine your favourite grandfather at Christmas crooning Sinatra song, and making a brilliant job of it. This is an older, extremely listenable, Dylan who just has fun. Great album.

Boring. I'm sorry, no disrespect to Mr. Dylan, but this album is boring.

Full Moon and Empty Arms. I have listened to this song ever since it came out and was on Bob Dylan's Webpage. I absolutely love it, and I am waiting for Feb 3, 2015, when "Shadows in the Night" comes out. Thank you, Bob Dylan!

He never could sing. Meh.

Pointless. As a life long Dylan fan I have taken the great with the not so great, but this leaves me totally indifferent, which is scary because I feel the end of the long road is approaching. I am sure Bob will return with a masterful work but this one just squeaks and squawks through some beautifully low-key arrangements. I am not sure my own mother would like this one.

expectations. Bob has expectations by fans of what he should be doing but we know he does what he wants. This is a great cd but just not what some fans expect of him. To bad, it's great

At first sceptical but happy to be wrong!. Given Bob's raspy, tired voice I thought he had gone mad when this album was announced. How wrong... The arrangements are beautiful and Bob's singing is better than ever. Bob, as Jack Frost, has produced a stunning album. The recording has Bob's voice way out front and every word is beautifully articulated, along with the occasional elongated vowel. These old songs have been "uncovered" by a man who really knows music!

Bizarre... A bit like the decision at Newport...

BOD DYLAN... nicely done but why oh why are we all still getting the same old 40 odd mins on new discs lets ask why we are not getting 60 odd mins for our dollars…. we are not buying vinyl where thats all the artists can do…this is modern plastic and the cds can hold at least 60 mins… another 20 mins , please Bob

Some enchanted evening.. Worst recording ever. I think Rod Stewart was correct, Dylan just has the wrong kind of voice

A beautiful album.. This is Dylan and his band at their best. The arrangements are gorgeous and the pedal steel really adds something special. If you have seen Dylan tour in the last ten years then you know how incredible his band is, and they are all featured on this album. And Bob’s voice! What can you say? It is truly beautiful and rich in years. Very few can compete with a voice so honest and raw. 5/5

Really awesome. At the start of “What’ll I do” if you turn up the sound you can hear Dylan taking a sip of water. funny

Bob nails the classics. Bob Dylan has surprised everyone with these renditions of songs from the 1940’s and 1950’s, possibly the songs he sang in his high school band in Hibbing Minnesota. That Lucky Old Sun is my favourite - a lovely song well sung. Once again, Bob invites his fans along a road of musical discovery - thanks Mr Dylan for all the adventures.
