Awesome by far. At least someone is talking about something that really needs to be talked about like social justice, racism, politics. THis is what it is today. Thanks Gary for releasing this album.

Racist Trash. if youre into "Hey im Black heres my race card!" this is the garbage for you. The days of colored artists making music instead of political rants are gone forever and the animal now is all we get.

Gary doesn't mess around. Amazing, thank you for keeping it real!

Not what I was expecting. I love most of the previous albums he has done. This one seems like he is going in a different direction, and that is fine but it’s not what I turn on a Gary Clark Jr album to hear. There are some statement songs on this album where he is using the platform he’s earned to express his views. I’m good with that as we all should be. Not that the previous reviews show that. You don’t have to like or buy the songs but not your place to condemn them either for what they say. I do hope we get more of what made me love GCJ in the first place on future albums and I think dirty dishes blues show that we will!

How DARE you GCJr!!. Shut up & entertain me GCJr! How dare you bring down my mood with your actual, real life account of what you & your kind deal with growing up/living in America? It’s not my problem, & furthermore I REFUSE to acknowledge YOUR experiences as truth. So I don’t care to hear about your pain. Just keep singin’ the blues, you know, about my pain. Not yours. And how DARE you claim this land is yours, you know, just like the popular American anthem “This Land is My Land?” You can’t sing that because you’re black & that makes that statement racist & ridiculous! You know we just allow you & your kind to live here as long as you agree to quietly & passively deal with the mental, physical & systemic effects of racism. And how DARE you bring up Trump’s name JUST ONCE to literally describe the geographical location of where you live? Now I gotta whine & complain that the ENTIRE song is “anti-Trump”, & of course “anti-Trump supporters” because WHO ELSE would be the perpetrators of the racism you experience daily? Just stick to sangin’ the blues boy because if I gotta hear about the evils & ugliness of my society & how that affects you & yours, then I’m just gonna label it political, call it crap, call YOU a racist, & stop supporting your music. Hmph (folds arms & puts blinders back on that GCJr. so rudely knocked off my face).

Love the Gary !!!. Man i listened to Gary Clark Jr all 2020. He was my saving grace. Love his music and love the Man. xoxo He rocks, and if you haven't heard "You gonna know his name by the end of the night, yeah" Yeah !!!!!

their not your shoes, not your music people!. I absolutely love the talent in GCjr. He is singing of his experience which is what makes great pieces of art. Why would he cater to anyone else - this would not be genuine. Get over yourselves critics and listen to his words about his story and respect what life is like for him. Is it my favorite? Certainly not but it’s his story and I am honored to be on the receiving end of it.

This Land.... Song isn’t about politics, it’s about him being racially profiled and interrogated by a new white neighbor about why he was on the ranch he just purchased. Refused to believe Gary was the owner...

Snowflakes. All those snowflakes crying about the message of the title track. They have NO IDEA the pain and suffering of millions that the heritage they’re sooo proud of caused and continues to contribute to. I say good on Gary Clark Jr. for speaking his mind, for not being afraid to tell his side of the story and share his truth.

An Eclectic Triumph. The album covers every genre imaginable, and does so extraordinarily well. It’s getting more rare to find music with a message, but Gary delivered.

Love. I love that there are still talented musicians (Mr. Clark and his band) making, playing, and recording music. His best album so far.

Gary is a master of any genre he chooses. This album is fantastic from front to back. What About Us is a great blues rocker, I’ve Got My Eyes on You is an R&B-esque crooner, Got to Get Into Something is a punk rock song through and through, Pearl Cadillac is classic Gary blues, When I’m Gone is a great 50s-inspired bop, Low Down Rolling Stone is a fuzz-laced, in your face hard rock, blues tune and The Governor is a laid back acoustic blues. There’s something here for everyone and don’t let the softies scare you away from This Land either. Must be nice to have no idea where Gary’s coming from on that one.

Humorous.... I love how the labels think putting divisive tracks in albums will change the minds of buyers...I could care less how angry this guy is...in fact how is it that much different from most people in the spotlight....he has a good sound period.

His Masterpiece, so far. The diversity of his vocals, lyrics, music & guitar mastery is outstanding. He's baring his soul as a true artist. This is not for us to endorse or merely give 5 stars, but rather experience, hear him & receive his messages about love, life, the blues & society - our world today. He's building upon the historic legacy of the American genre of Blues, & doing it very well. This CD is for true music lovers & respecters of music genius. Love you, Gary! You're doing it very well.

American Musical Genius. Mr. Clark, Jr. Just Gets Better With Time. We Saw Him In Nashville Last Weekend. His New Material (Much Of It In This Album) Extends His Reach & Is Right On Time!!

Gary flexing his muscles. If you didn't listen to the rest of this album due to your problem with the title track. You are missing out. This is Gary comfortable in his own skin. He's in the zone and at his best yet. Rock, punk, blues, reggae, R&B, pop, soul. All those influences are there and yet it all sounds like Gary. The guitar tone on Pearl Caddilac is his best yet and dare I say the quintessential guitar voice right now.

crap. Garbage

Already peaked. I had so much hope for this artist but he has shown he's going down the same path as many before him, with hitting your peak with your debut album.... compared to blak and blu... this album is crap and I'm not just saying that because of politics… I agree that politics destroys music.... and if you are going to be political… At least be factual…sounds like to me you're calling Trump supporters racist... and you would think that people who suffer the consequences of racism wouldn't turn around and continue to perpetuate racism, acting just as racist if not more.... at least I'm glad I'm not going to waste 10 bucks on this album!!!!

ALBUMS. Gary should stick to the blues and forget politics. This country needed a wakeup call and through music is not the right decision. He is gifted and should stick to the blues roots.

Awesome. I bought this because I like Gary Clark Jr. and to spite the asinine 1-star reviewers. It’s an excellent album. Bravo, Gary!

To those who bailed after initial single: Your loss. To those who were uncomfortable with the initial single released, and bailed: Your loss. Many apparently were uncomfortable with the politicial perspective of the initial release of single, This Land, before the rest came out. The song is a black man's perspective (GCJ's) of exasperation and anger of seeing racists posts in every comment section on nearly every topic, having to stare at confederate flag bumper stickers with a smile like it's nothing, and the exhaustion of people questioning where you do or don't belong (and whether for real or percieved because how do you tell the difference) ... ANYWAYS, FOR THOSE WHO DIDN'T GET TO HEAR THE REST OF THE ALBUM, AFTER BAILING FROM HEARING HIS INITIAL SINGLE: THIS ALBUM IS HIS BEST!! And I should know as I have them all : ) Awesome job. Thanks GCJ!!

All I can say is wow.. I've known of Gary Clark, Jr., for a long time. I've seen him featured in blues and guitar festivals for at least a decade, and I always thought of him as primarily a blues guy. This album embraces a lot of genres but tilts towards R&B and soul. There is a lot texture and nuance in almost every song. This guy knows how to write a song and how to play and sing the heck out of it. The bad reviews complaining about the politics clearly did not listen to the album or consider the music (just the title track, really) within the context in which it is offered. Go read the lyrics to the title track and tell me how it is about Trump. I dare you.

Potential is there!!!!!!!!!!!!. My dad once told me don't judge a man until you have walked a mile in his shoes. Many of the reviewers here are giving Gary grieve because he is witing and singing songs about what he has experienced. If you are not a black man in America - then you don't know what it's like. With that being said - I have t give this album 5 stars because there are some jems here i.e. Pink Caddy and Highway 71. At this point - Gary needs to find the right producer(s) that can work with him on his sound and on his song writing. He needs a few hit songs - some with some crazy hooks and melodies. He needs to get with some song rock and blues producers that can assist on moving him to the next level - trust me he will - this guy has a lot of talent!!!!!!!!!!!!

Raw and very listenable. Though it might not quite live up to some of his earlier music, I still find it worth listening to. “This Land” to me is one of his best. It demonstrates his passion for his music and what he has to say, very apropos for these challenging times, a la Marvin Gaye but rawer. He has great talent; he’ll be fine.

As a guy from a Red State. I enjoyed it even though This Land set a precedent that wasn’t Often explored on the rest of the album. He seems to invoke the spirit of Keith Sweat, The Dirtbombs, And Joe Satrania

He is amazing !!. Kudos to him for expressing his views and his distaste of what was happening at that time. A musician has every right to express how they feel regardless of who’s side you’re on.

This land. Kent Clark went into a phone booth to change into Superman And came out Gary Clark jr.

Another dud from a guy who showed promise early on. This guy needs a career enema. He showed promise early on, but he can't write songs, plays unimaginative fuzz guitar when he runs out of juice, and shows no development years into his career. Not too bad live when he's high, but only if you are too. he's carved out a little touring niche for himself thanks to some " Hendrix second coming " hype that he never deserved, but it's just boring at this point.

For the People That Don’t Understand Their Privilege. Gary Clark Jr. continues to shine. His talent grows every time he plays his guitar. I’m excited at the possibility of his best work still being in front of him. That said, this album is intensely great! Now, for the people down on the messages of his music, and especially the “just play the blues” crowd, shut up. Do you even understand what many blues musicians sing about? Look up some history. Please. Clark is carrying the torch on all levels and carving out his own path as well.

F u gary Clarke jr. Donald Trump is not a racist!! He will be President again!!

Look at All the Racist and Ignorant Reviews and You Will See Why You NEED This Record. WOW! Look at all the racist and ignorant one-line reviews and you will see why this is an important record to the history of the Blues, to American Music, and to the African American experience in general. Gary writes this record after being confronted with horrible hatred and racism, and then looking at the rise of American Fascism and Racism via the emergence of Trump and his politics of hate and division, Gary does what Blues musicians have been doing since Blind Lemon Johnson, telling the TRUTH. For those people who say they 'don't listen to the Blues for politics,' congratualtions you've never listened to the Blues, you don't understand the Blues, and you really need to take a long look in the mirror and have your racism checked. This is an AMAZING record, it's POWERFUL, it's real freaking Blues. Possibly the most important Blues record made in the last 20 years.

What a bigot. Stop bringing up race in songs. Smh

Amazing. I can’t stop listening to songs from this album. I first saw Gary Clark Jr when he was introduced by Queen Latifah on her show. I immediately loved his style and music. He is very talented. I saw some negative reviews here. My view is he is brilliant. I love This Land and pretty much everything he performs/produces. My favorite is The Guitar Man. I am happy to see other sides of his personality and talent through his music. He is definitely on heavy rotation on my playlist.

Talented artist. If you’re wanting Gary Clark Jr to churn out the same tracks as in previous album this may not be for you. But if you admire this man’s musical artistry and range then you’ll appreciate his latest. GCJr manages to mix it up. Aside from his classic blues (Dirty Dishes Blues, The Governor) and R&B sounds, he injects some social conscious on tracks ‘This Land’ and ‘Feed the Babies’, while having a little fun with the punk-influenced ‘Gotta Get Into Something’ and reggae-esque ‘Feeling Like a Million Bucks’. Tracks on this album worth a listen are ‘Pearl Cadillac’, ‘When I’m Gone’, and ‘I Got My Eyes On You’

A Grand Slam. I’ve always admired GCJ ... and now I profoundly respect him. Lyrically, musically, and thematically, this is a spectacular album. If you like rock n roll, you’ll love this. (Unless you’re small handed - see below.)

Very Powerful A Year Later. Just happened upon this artist in the Music store, outstanding guitarist, smart lyrics. This Land is spot-on for these times as some folks double down on racism and bigotry and try to turn back the clock to favor only some of us.

The Message. The modern day Jimi Hendrix of Rock and Roll! Hendrix delivered messages in his music. Clark does the same! Keep doing what you doing and don’t be afraid to speak your heart in your music. You teach a lot people! Thank you Gary Clark Jr!

Not fragile white woman. Love this man’s work! Really ages well.

Just Saw Him Open For Rolling Stones And.... He was fantastic so I bought the album hejust had played songs from. I read the reviews about his politics of which BTW I totally disagree with (his politics). But having just heard him open for Stones in Foxboro, Mass. and his blistering set playing Pearl Cadillac, Low Down Rolling Stone and others I had to buy this. He was just that good. I liked the way this album gives me a glimpse of not just his blues chops but so much more Now all of that aside... I didn't bash Marvin Gaye when he was writing the same type of stuff 1970 onward. As a matter of fact I embraced it as some of his best work at the time. And it surely was. Same as this stuff musically works quite well. He obviously felt he had something to say and a music fan would take that at face value. I look past the politics (I am as Conservative as they come politically) because I love music and I truly enjoy his playing. And I liked this one so much I am going to buy his EP for Bright Lights when done writing this. Either way this album will stand the test of time in the GCJ music library.

Tell it like it is. This Land is right there in your face, the truth about any black man that's had that racist venom spewed at them.I understand why some would be upset but, to claim this is not the blues and it's Hip-Hop ,let me educate you on the blues, it is a genre that was started by black artist that describes their feelings and what real life issues they're going through, this really is the description of all lyrics regardless of the genre of music.Everyone who is not black are ok with black artist ripping blacks to shreds in their lyrics and more importantly to them is they think that people who don't look like them should accept the oppression that put on them and not say or do anything about its a black man I too have had racial slurs shouted at me by cowards driving by as I walked home as a young kid,I'm glad so many are upset with what he's saying, that means it's accomplishing his goal to make you think, and as far as that clown in the White House he will be tried for various crimes in the future,I can't believe his followers are so stupid that they would be led against everything that America truly stands for and choose to be hateful,Rock On Gary,I'll support your new album.Peace

Grow a Pair. To the crying snowflakes b*tching about Gary's message on this album, I dare you to spend a week in a black man's shoes, translate your feelings into music, and elevate that experience into high art. If you can accomplish that, then feel free to b*tch and moan about another human being's experiences that dare to take you out of your smug, self-righteous delusion of privilege. BUT, if you can do none of this, and can't accomplish getting your head out of your own rear end, go back to listening to Elvis.

Finally a great blues/rock album!. Pay no attention to the racist haters. This album is amazing. Yes it speaks out against the political tyranny in US politics right now which needs to be said. Musically, so often I hear amazing blues players but the songs are not great. Gary Clark Jr. is a great song writer and player. I love the mix between hip hop/soul/funk/blues. It's a fresh take on blues today. Thank you Gary Clark Jr. you're amazing.

Terrific album. This land goes to the heart of the blues. Sadly, some of the reviews here show us exactly why the blues is needed.

What happened?!. I’m so disappointed .... I was beyond ecstatic when I first heard G.C jr.’ The Bright lights EP. The era of Heart, Soul, Rhythm, and Blues is something to hold onto; even if such a talented artist is trying to send a message. Right now, the way he’s putting out his political opinion and message sounds like straight trash. I figured someone with his talent would at least stand up as an actual artist, and present it like a man. I truly hope his next album is much more like his Blak and Blu album.

Gone Off his Roots. 1st off this is a Over Produced, unlike what I'm use to from Gary....disappointing Album.

I Dig It!. Gary Clark Jr. keeps getting better. "Low down rolling stone", "What about us", "Pearl Cadillac " are gonna be classics. Btw, I'm pretty much a hard line right winger and I still love the song "This Land", I can appreciate where his emotions are coming from. To the folks that want to rag on him about it: you are missing out on one of the best artists of our generation.

If you don’t like this album because it’s political, don’t listen to it. Hard to listen to does not mean bad. This album is a masterpiece of political statement and music.

Absolutely Stunning. I’ve always been a fan of Gary Clark Jr. because of his unique blues sound and the fact that he hails from Austin, as I do. This album only increased my respect and admiration for him. Yes, the title track is a bit political, but the music and great and the message even better. For those of you giving this one star solely because of the title track, listen to the rest of the album. It’s very good and he blends all of his musical influences together. Every track sounds different, but it is a very well put together and cohesive album. This could very well win album of the year: it’s that good.

Best album of 2019. The title track is the best song of the year. Just telling the truth about a racist president. Love America always. Support your government when it deserves it.

Differnt and really good. OK, This land is awful. Once you get past that, the rest of the album is great. different instramentation, but it fun. I tray not to read or worry too much about the politiacl influences in music. Heck, if I only listened to someone with my views it woudl be Kid Rock and Ted Nugent all day.
