So highly reviewed by so few?. This is an album of musical perfection for it’s genre and time. As you can see, that is the overall consensus from the handful of reviews here. And, that is the key. This is exactly what you want in your music quest. You want music that is repeatedly referenced with terms like “Perfect” or “Classic” yet is destined to “Fly under the radar” in terms of “Sellout potential”. TALKING HEADS RULE FO SHO!!!!!

One of the all time greatest albums!. I never get sick of this

Pivotal moment in my musical education. I bought this vinyl when it came out based on the constant presence of Psycho Killer on Dr. Demento on KROQ and found it was chock-full of better songs. Flat wore it out on the turntable (and pretty much burned my wife out on Talking Heads at the same time.) It still holds up well. It is tight, clean and not over-produced and delivers the ambience that continues to influence 'smart bands' today. Their later work was for me somewhat more cluttered - enjoyable but didn't deliver the same schizophrenic impact i.e. danceable pop tunes with a dark edge. 'Uh-Oh ... ', 'Tentative Decisions', 'Don't Worry about the Gov't' are stand out tracks that could hold up in any regular shuffle rotation, IMHO.

One of those rare SOLID albums.. Every single track on this album is important and catchy, easy and complicated.... This is smart music made listenable. Or fun music that just happens to be actually GOOD. If you never buy whole albums anymore, THIS is what it used to be like.

Dare I say a perfect album?. Specially considering it was their first album in an age of disco, overaught aging drugged out pompous arena rock, and super mellow contrified stoners. This music is alive, smart, funny approachable, dancable, singable, relateable and, tight as hell, listen to Tina's bass bouncing between guitar lines, and strong-accurate-fill the room drumming, this opened a lot of eyes and minds to the forgotten potential of pop music. Caught Eno's ear. All killer no filller! Psycho killer!

Excellent. Every groove.. Even if you're not a Talking Heads fan (I'm really not), this album is fantastic. The groovy rhythms, the exotic instruments and David Byrne's wailing vocals all are on full display here. Excellent musicianship, fine songwriting (weirdly personal) and top-shelf production.

psycho killer right here!. great album but i get p****d when no oner rates these albums, and this is their actual debut album, and this is where psycho killer actually came form!

A Classic!. I made it through High School and College listening to my older brother's 'Heads albums that included 77, More Songs and Fear of Music. I quickly got my own. The lyrics are quirky at times but well thought out and David Byrne's voice will make a lasting impression. This debut LP along with the 2 that follow should be considered some of the more influential music of the time and the Talking Heads should go down as one of the best bands of the 70's and 80's. If anyone is interested in this band or David Byrne at all, 77 should absolutely be part of your music collection. You will not be disappointed.
