Best Album yet!!!!. I cannot stop listening to this album, all their songs are so catchy, best album from them yet!
It's good, but only because it's Switchfoot.. Switchfoot is my ohana. But my scene is the Oh! Gravity., Nothing Is Sound, Vice Verses scene. If you're an original Switchfoot fan from the ReThink Records era, that original trilogy sounds practically prehistoric in comparison to this record. If you're looking for that solid and raw Switchfoot rock 'n roll, you won't find it in here...which is disappointing. But it nevertheless is still Switchfoot, and thus executes to be a fairly decent album. Not my favorite of their endeavors however.
Switch foot are my life!. This group is the greatest. From uplifting, fun rock songs to emotional, heart-felt love songs. These guys are so influential and amazing, they have changed my life. - Your biggest fan
The Way They Want It. So you know where I’m coming from, before hearing the full album, I went to one of Switchfoot's shows for the Fall 2013 Fading West tour. I viewed their film of the same title, enjoyed a live show, and then got to meet all of the guys personally via a VIP pass. A night to remember for sure! In my eyes (or rather, ears), Fading West is just as phenomenal as all of their other albums. It's true that Fading West may have more pop elements than many Switchfoot fans are used to, but I would not say that Jon is "selling out" or trying to please others somehow by altering the band's sound. I would say he is doing the opposite. Jon never has, nor ever will, write music for the satisfaction of others. He writes music as a way of figuring out life and sharing his thoughts, as many Switchfoot fans know based on what he has said in numerous interviews (not to mention that it is blatantly apparent how much the band loves what they do at their live shows). In my experience, Switchfoot transcends beyond the cages of genre titles or any particular "sound" if you will. Their sound is their sound, and that's it. Call it what you want, but Fading West is just the way they want it.
Sounds like a trend record. This record doesn't really stand out as much as previous ones. The sound is aggravating because it sounds like every other run of the mill "hipster indie record." Sadly, many bands that held a high status back in the day have gone to this level. I will say however that this record is not entirely terrible. There are a few high points. Overall, it's okay. It's no "nothing is sound, letdown or hurricane," but it's not bad.
