Worth the fight?. This was a weird adjustment or change from the edgy rock album, Vice Verses. Switchfoot has been around for over a decade, bringing in a lot of change. From their raw garage band vibe of the early Legend of the Chin to the fine tuned hits of the Beautiful Letdown (which didn't let down) to the Chaotic and fun Oh! Gravity and finally to the dark pure rock of Vice Verses. So it isn't a new concept thats been around as long as they have. But to make this change from their usual rock presence to this new alternative rock with a mix of pop, Switchfoot gave us a gift, Fading West (the movie). A film about 5 guys traveling around the world chasing waves and chasing songs. The story put you right in the middle of the songs creation and tied you to them in ways few artist can ever dream of. Watching this movie makes every note of Fading West the music so much more beautiful. Now I am a die-hard Switchfoot fan, but that doesn't mean I love everything they put out. Like i wasn't hooked on Oh! Gravity. It seemed to random at parts, musically and lyrically. But hear me when I say this Fading West is absolutely beautifully amazing. Defiantly get this and yeah it's worth the $9.99 on iTunes.

Best Album bought this year!. This album is amazing!! When you listen to the stories & feelings that are told thru the lyrics!

True artist !!. There music is real! Love there songs and fading west documentary was awesome!

Watch the movie. All these people have no right to leave a comment if they havent watched the movie and also the were incredible live I saw them in boston in november and im going to see them again in rhode island on the 29th

Well.... Good luck finding a song where they don't go "whoa-oh" a few times. Switchfoot's "new" sound sounds very similar to the generic pop that you'll hear on a contemporary Christian radio station. Think slow, loud choruses with simple melodies and drumbeats. If you've ever listened to a contemporary Christian station, you know what I mean. Having said that, I definitely found more than a few songs in here that I love. Switchfoot still makes great stuff. Just don't expect too much surprise or diversity. "Nothing Is Sound" this ain't.

:/. I love Switchfoot. They're one of my favorites and always have been. But this album is extremely disappointing. After the raw sound and emotion of Vice Verses, this feels like a major step back—almost like they've completely forgotten the sound that made them so successful in the past. This album sounds like any other MercyMe or Jeremy Camp album (nothing against them, though). Switchfoot has a very distinct sound that seems lost on this album. Hopefully they'll do better with the next one. :/

Sounds like a trend record. This record doesn't really stand out as much as previous ones. The sound is aggravating because it sounds like every other run of the mill "hipster indie record." Sadly, many bands that held a high status back in the day have gone to this level. I will say however that this record is not entirely terrible. There are a few high points. Overall, it's okay. It's no "nothing is sound, letdown or hurricane," but it's not bad.

Their best one yet! 👍. I bought this album when it first released and it absolutely blew me away! These guys are one of my favorite bands and it seemed as if every song on this record was a soundtrack of my life. Every melody and lyric hit me in a very personal way! I love these guys! I credit Jon Foreman and the guys to helping me get to a place where I could dream again! It's not the sound I was accustomed to, but it was the sound I needed! This album is amazing! One of my favorites!

Whoa, a little too poppy. Great band. Even better guys. This is just too "Demi Lo Jonas bros Montana" pop sounding. As compared to the previous work, they have drifted from their rockier sound, which I am fine with for experimentation sake, but this was just too pop sounding (the "whoa oh ohs" really start to wear on me). But thanks guys.

Simply Amazing. This is Switchfoot. Pure inspiration for life. Love them.

Great Album. Front to back the band's best work. Lyrics flow like butter and musically layered sound is phenomenal! This album is great for the beach, long drives and as usual, great for the entire family. Fortunately, we'll see them in Abilene, TX and I'm sure seeing them live will be an honor. Buy the album!

Good. Like like

Switchfoot at it again. Best album since Learning to Breathe

Amazing. So I actually just saw Switchfoot at BTF, (big ticket festival), and before that, I had never listened to their music. This band was PHENOMENAL. Absolutely amazing. They performed so good live I just had to buy some songs right after. I can't compare what they're like now as compared to the old, but music is music, and they not only how to write it but also perform it.

Switchfoot knocks it out of the park!. By far my favorite album of Switchfoot. Every song speaks to my soul and I'm moved to tears on more than a few of the songs. The doc was like icing on the cake. Can't wait to hear what they do next!

Best Album yet!!!!. I cannot stop listening to this album, all their songs are so catchy, best album from them yet!

I love switchfoot. THIS IS THE BEST ALBUM EVER IT IS AMAZING I LOVE IT SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!<3 SWITCHFOOT!!!!!!!!

New Sound, New Excellence!. Switchfoot's newset album may not be what fans have been expecting, but the dynamics within have proven themselves to deliver a new high appeal! As one having a strong love for "Beautiful Letdown" and "Nothing Is Sound" from early on, there was a noticeable transition moving into "Oh, Gravity" that was more unique in style and did not have as much culmination in the music with climaxes that were so commonly found in the aforementioned cd's. "Fading West" has brought back the strong build-up to the songs with exciting moments where the music shifts suddenly! Using excellent chord structure and background vocals, the album frequently finds many layers to be enjoyed, especially on the final chorus. I would highly recommend "Fading West" to all!

Fading west. These guys continue to put out awesome music.

Where do I begin. I have a ton of respect for Switchfoot, met the guys three times after shows, volunteered at shows, Bro Am, and Del Mar. Lyrically speaking, good positive message and vibes; but sound and production, who the hell produced this, Katy Perry dad? If they wanted to do something different, get Rick Ruben to help produce. Where was the band? Did Jon do a solo pop album? Everyone has a flop album, I pray this is the only flop album they produce

Really Good. Love Alone Is Worth the Fight (4 Stars): A good intro to the album. It has really good lyrics. If I had to give the song a genre it would be pop-alternative. It has an interesting use of synthesizers. The keyboard solo is a little like "Owl City" in a way. A good catchy song. The instruments don't sound like Switchfoot that much, but it's still a good 4 star song. Who We Are (3 Stars): This song is catchy, but lacks Switchfoot. This song is also a departure of Switchfoot's alternative rock. It also sounds like a pop-alternative tune. It's a decent song overall. When We Come Alive (4 Stars): Good positive lyrics. It has a catchy chorus. This song sounds like a pop song on Switchfoot's last album "Vice Verses". This song actually has guitar. I really like it. Say It Like You Mean It (3 Stars): A rock-oriented song. It has a good amount of guitars. I don't really like that they changed Jon Foreman's voice in the chorus. This song sounds like it should be on "Vice Verses". It's an okay song overall. The World You Want (2 Stars):

Switchfoot Rules!. A little shift from their previous album, still nice though.

Wow So Amazingly New. I love how there sound changed. I just <3 it!!!!

The Way They Want It. So you know where I’m coming from, before hearing the full album, I went to one of Switchfoot's shows for the Fall 2013 Fading West tour. I viewed their film of the same title, enjoyed a live show, and then got to meet all of the guys personally via a VIP pass. A night to remember for sure! In my eyes (or rather, ears), Fading West is just as phenomenal as all of their other albums. It's true that Fading West may have more pop elements than many Switchfoot fans are used to, but I would not say that Jon is "selling out" or trying to please others somehow by altering the band's sound. I would say he is doing the opposite. Jon never has, nor ever will, write music for the satisfaction of others. He writes music as a way of figuring out life and sharing his thoughts, as many Switchfoot fans know based on what he has said in numerous interviews (not to mention that it is blatantly apparent how much the band loves what they do at their live shows). In my experience, Switchfoot transcends beyond the cages of genre titles or any particular "sound" if you will. Their sound is their sound, and that's it. Call it what you want, but Fading West is just the way they want it.

This album is everything. This album really reminds me of Learning to Breath. Catchy tunes, thought provoking lyrics - it's everything you love about Switchfoot. It's rare to find an album you don't have to skip songs in - this is one of those rare joys. Get it. Now.

Will it be any good?. I admit upon hearing the first 2 tracks off this album a few months ago I was skeptical of the direction Switchfoot was headed. As such I didn't purchase it when it first came out. As a Switchfoot fan since the days of Chem 6A and Underwater, I just wasn't sure the pop thing was a good direction for the band. Just yesterday I decided to give Jon and the boys the benefit of the doubt and downloaded the album. I was not diappointed. Is this the Switchfoot who wrote Paparrazzi and Company Car? Of course not, these guys have matured as musicians and their sound has been changing for years. Every album seems a step in a new direction and I find that I am growing up with them. Although I still love the old stuff I am always impressed by the way Switchfoot manages to maintain its artistic integrity and yet remain relevant in a changing music scene. This isnt some One Direction knockoff. These are well written introspective songs. I'd call it Smart Pop and I have always been a fan of artists who write smart lyrics, a la Sixpence None the Richer. These are the "Christian" bands that have had the biggest influence on mainstream music and whose songs continue to hold up to scrutiny to this day. I dare you to listen to Audio Adrenaline "Big House" and not cringe at how corny it was. This was the world that Switchfoot lived in when they started and they stood out as a band that did something different. They are still doing something different. I also like how positive these songs are in contrast to many of their previous tracks, where Jon really dives into his own failings. You need that kind of positivity from time to time. Is this this best Switchfoot album? Of course not, but its catchy from start to finish and I respect the band's decision to go out and try for a new sound.

Amazing Record Start to Finish!. This album is a must have. It took me several listens start to finish to realize how well it flowed together and how every song fits together like pieces to a beautiful picture. It takes you on a musical and emotional roller coaster, in a good way. Enjoy the creative vibe and pushing musical limits of what people might expect around the next turn. Keep us guessing Switchfoot.

Come on...guys...!?!?. Really? I love you Switchfoot, I have since the early days behind Charlie peacock...and you have always blown me away with every album in a musical AND a cerebral expression. But honestly, this album sounds like you sold out or something. Musically speaking, I would argue it's the weakest Switchfoot installment ever. hopefully the next album will redeem.

Switchfoot does it!. This is probably my favorite Swithfoot song ever! I like the voice effects!

Different yet good. Switchfoot has always been one of my favorite bands. I don't know if it is the nostalgia talking or what, but I think they are my favorite band next to The Beatles. One of the things I like about them is how every album they put out is different. You have Fading West and then their first album, Legend of Chin. They've been around for twenty years, they don't want to keep doing the same thing. I'll admit that this is probably my least favorite Switchfoot album. This album is more pop than the usual Switchfoot. I guess to conclude this review I'd say it's good, but not near as good as Nothing Is Sound.

Switch foot are my life!. This group is the greatest. From uplifting, fun rock songs to emotional, heart-felt love songs. These guys are so influential and amazing, they have changed my life. - Your biggest fan

WOW....... ThIS ALBUM IS THE BEST!!!!!!!...... I Also watched the Movie, which shows you what the meaning behind everysong is.

great cd and documentary. love the cd and love the documentary, they have such a good way that they can speak everyday struggles of Christians in society without alienating non believers, the way they write their music enables them to reach so many more hearts than artists under the Christian label

Wow.. I truly, truly like Switchfoot’s music!

Experience the ride!. Best album of the year hands down. You will enjoy the journey and will be inspired. My faith in great music has been restored. Check out the documentary for this also and if you have never seen them live, please do. You will leave with a smile on your face.

Right up there with ‘The Beautiful Letdown'. This is my favorite album yet, boys! You still got it! In fact, somehow, you keep getting better! You topped it with this! Amazing! Thank you.

Love these guys!. Awesome album!!

Not sure we need this. I love 'Foot and maybe I will learn to love this. But don't we already have Passion Pit and Temper Trap and Pheonix to bring us all this? Man, I miss the Rock.

Nice!!. This album is so crisp and refreshing! Five stars hands down!!

Simple Amazing. Switchfoot has always amazed me with their music. One of their best CDs.

Inspirational and challenging. All of Switchfoots' music has inspired me to not only become a better person, but challenged my thinking on where I am and why do I stand where I stand. Love these guys!

Love it. Love it!

Decent. Well, this album has its pros and cons. Overall, the song verses are some of the best, most rhythmic, and well written I've ever heard from SF, let alone other bands. However, that doesn't cover their lackluster choruses or the fact that most of the songs sound similar. Hey, it's their ninth album, and not everything they write is going to be my favorite.

It's good, but only because it's Switchfoot.. Switchfoot is my ohana. But my scene is the Oh! Gravity., Nothing Is Sound, Vice Verses scene. If you're an original Switchfoot fan from the ReThink Records era, that original trilogy sounds practically prehistoric in comparison to this record. If you're looking for that solid and raw Switchfoot rock 'n roll, you won't find it in here...which is disappointing. But it nevertheless is still Switchfoot, and thus executes to be a fairly decent album. Not my favorite of their endeavors however.

💯. a complete mass of beautiful soul. that's it.

Perhaps the best pop album I've seen. Switchfoot delivers. After albums like "The Beautiful Letdown" and "Hello Hurricane", they had a lot to live up to. But they deliver. With great pop songs like "Let it out" and the always refreshing "Love Alone Is Worth The Fight", they also deliver their usual great rock song, with "Say it like you mean it" being up there with songs like "Dark Horses", "The Original", and "Meant to live". It's a great album to listen to on a long car trip, along with Edge of the Earth.

Replayable. After listening to this album one time through I came to the conclusion that it's an album that can be replayed without ever getting old. It has a new sound different from Vice Verses but it still has a familiar sound I've grown to love hearing from Switchfoot. Definitely can't wait for their next album.... Even if it's going to be a while!

Synthfoot. We'll.... Ummm.... The title of this review says it, they made a synth driven album. Not sure if I dig it, sounds a bit too different for my taste.

Lost your uniqueness. All I have to say is that this is not the Switchfoot I have grown to love for their unique sound. "Love alone is worth the fight" is a great song but a total Coldplay ripoff, (listen to their song "Paradise" if you don't believe me). Please come back with your unique combination of edgy music with the inspiring lyrics!

GREAT!. This an all around Amazon album! Wow!
