Please take note.... This recording had its moments in which I felt a little disappointed. But, overall, I think they did a great job. I have read through what other people have said about this recording, and by the looks of it, some was just outright arrogant. I agree, the original cast recording will always be the better of the two to me. But, like most of us, we grew up with that cast. And, with every revival, things change. There are different interpretations, different actors, directors, and in this case new songs. If you are a director or musical director of this show, or even someone comparing the two, it is important to realize what production you are doing. This cast has a far larger cast and new important characters, ie Snow White is now a lead in a sence instead of just a one liner. So, dont listen to this and say to yourself, this was nothing like what the high school did without knowing what production they did. And, if you are directing the show. It is important for the cast to listen to different recordings. If they just listen to one, it encourages them to act and sing just like they did in the recording. This fails to allow them to create and make their own character. If they listen to both, even one that you may think is a poor recording, it will encourage them, to pick out parts they like and do not like and therefore also encourage them to come up with some of their own ideas. So, even if you are a fan of the original, this is still worth buying, it will make you a better listener and encourage analysis and critique
Fun Play!. I am doing this play at my middle school, and it is very fun! It is an interesting story made of many stories, so you get it right away. It's fun to sing along with the songs, even if they do sing very high! I suggest you watch the production first, because that is what makes the songs enjoyable.
Which witch is which?. How can you have a recording of Into the Woods without Bernadette Peters? She is amazing. Sorry, but Vanessa just doesnt cut it for me. Stick with the original.
amazing cast. i was in this musical last year my high school did it i was snow white i love this version vanessa williams does the witch part alot more better than bernadtte peters i mean i like her version but vanessa william's version is better. my favorite songs is i have to say well all of them. i was paired with rapunzel's prince and me and him are really good friends now. some of my friends tell me that me and him make a good pair on stage and should be paired up again if we both get parts and get a part that pairs up. thats how good we were i hope whoever gets this enjoys the music i cant stop listening to the music i love it
Agony.. This is not the original broadway cast. Sometimes revivals far outshine their predecessors; this does not. And you can't replace Bernadette Peters, it just doesn't work. This is one of my favorite musicals in the entire world and why iTunes decided to put up this version is beyond me...
