The Voice. This is Ms. Lang's best work, in my opinion: not-too-familar C&W standbys sung with a passion and virtuosity you don't experience very often. I literally wore out the CD when the album was first released back in 1988. K.D. won me over with this one, and I've loved her ever since.
If you enjoy Patsy Cline.... You'll love this album. A friend that didn't like it gave me this, and the Torch and Twang one (which I didn't care for). It led me to a whole new genre of music. The vocals are tight and emotional, with excellent range, the musicians hit every note, like the best studio musicians can. I'm not sure that the instruments carry the emotional undertones that drive great songs, because the vocals do that so well that, like me, you'll never notice! If you love passionate, soulful music, and aren't turned off by a heavy, delicious, steel "geetar", this album will send chills down your spine, bring tears to your eyes, and a smile to your face. It's simply a brilliant bit of artistry, from the last place I'd expect it. Production values are top-notch too. This is a gem your friends will thank you for turning them on to.
The album that got me to like country. 1989 Mall record store. They hire a token metalhead to provide customer service to those into heavy metal and thrash. Initially disdainful of all thing non-industrial and non-metal, he soon grows to love this album and eventually finds himself playing it in the car, singing along, and knowing every single lyric. It's just that good.
The Best. This is bar far the cd that got me to really love KD Lang. When it came out I was working at a CW bar and played the F out of this whole CD.
