Great Album, but iTunes missed something.... Great album all the way. But, iTunes missed the cover of "Catch Me Now, I'm Falling" I have the album on my computer in WMP, after a friend let me borrow it. I have that track, but iTunes doesn't... What a shame...
Must Buy. This is one of the Goo Goo Dolls' strongest, most ecclectic albums. The wall of sound normally present is gone, stripped down to beautiful layers of clearly defined music. Johnny Rzeznik's voice is crisper than ever, and his songwriting is obviously second to none. The whole album is excellent, but the "must have" songs are As I Am, Notbroken, Nothing Is Real, Something For The Rest Of Us, Hey Ya, and Soldier. If you're some indie rock hipster, look elsewhere for some no-talent fly by night band to fill your head with meaningless droll. If you like great music from bands that have been together working magic for over 24 years, getting better with each album, this is for you. Must have album if you are a fan of alternative rock.
Good, but not Magic. I do love the Goo Goo Dolls, and they will eternally hold a place in my heart for being the band who first really introduced me to music. The band I speak of, though, is not the same one that created this album. The Goo Goo Dolls, earlier, managed to combine the stunning lyrics and melodies of ballads with some of the harder rock, occasionally with a little punk depending how far back you go, and it made for simply beautiful albums where each song had its own merits even if some shone more than others. Now, it's all under a smooth gloss. There's none of that raw emotion, the lyrics which require a third or fourth listen or the songs that instantly transport you to the moment you first heard the song. There's still emotion, but it's been hidden under the polish. The meaning behind the lyrics is still there, but you hardly even need to hear it once to understand it completely. Most of all, many of the songs sound similar to each other. I gave the album three stars because I still love the Goo Goo Dolls, and I always will, but I couldn't give it any higher since I know that they're capable of more. I know they're capable of producing more than just a "good album" or four pop-rock ballads. So, it's not a bad album, but if you like it, look back a few years and discover the magic that these guys produced and are still more than capable of producing.
Gotten me through so much.. I'm mostly reviewing this album on behalf of their song, "Soldier". That song.. just gives me chills every time I listen to it. Like almost all of their other songs, it describes certain situations PERFECTLY. And I'm not kidding when I say that! Their songs will put you to bed at night, help you spend hours screaming into your pillows about stupid things you probably won't remember in 10 years, or just giving yourself a good few minutes to reflect on things. The Goo Goo Dolls have changed my life forever, and I'm very proud to say that I'm a fan. You won't regret buying their music, especially this album.
YUCK!. I don't know who the Rest of Us is refering to but count me out. The downward spiral started with Let Love In. What is with all this soppy drival of late? Come on boys the world doesn't need another shoulder to cry on. What the world needs now is a good rockin!
