Great. John has done it again. The man is crazy talented and the music just gets better with each listen. Warning: the mountain goats are addictive and may cause you to spend lots of time and money trying to get your hands on everything they've ever recorded.

ugh. it always kind of boggles my mind that there is at least one person who clearly knows nothing about music of any sort that insists on writing reviews... anyways, yeah, im in agreement. one of the catchier mountain goats albums to come out in a while, which i think is a nice little throwback. as always, lyrically there isnt much better out there. its really nice for driving too.

Very good.. It's so nice these days to see solidly produced music that's also well-written. Heretic Pride is one of those rare modern albums that uses contemporary instrumentation, and is still intelligent. Songs like "Autoclave" and "Lovecraft in Brooklyn" make fantastic analogies that help tremendously to clarify the point of the song. In addition, "New Zion" and "Heretic Pride" deal tactfully with religion, while songs like "So Desperate" and "How to Embrace a Swamp Creature" cover the more uncomfortable aspects of romance. The bonus track "Toolshed" is based off of an infamous line from the reversed version of "Stairway to Heaven," and reworks it into one of the more haunting songs produced by The Mountain Goats so far. Overall, this is a fantastic album, and I would definitely recommend it.

A lyrical masterpiece. John Darnielle may just be the greatest songwriter of the last 20 years. Nowhere else will you find lyrics as amazing as The Mountain Goats. Hectic Pride is 16th album for The Mountain Goats and they have yet to skip a beat. What other band can stay this fresh for well over a decade? And while the lyrics are incredible, it doesn't take away from the music either. Hectic Pride is a little more developed than previous albums but it still stays true to The Mountain Goats lo-fi style. Most of the songs are just a few string instruments with a couple guitars and drums stuck in every so often. Essential tracks: Sax Rohmer #1, San Bernardino and Lovecraft in Brooklyn

Good, but not the best Mountain Goats album.. The Mountain Goats have never done a bad album. Some albums are better than others though. This isn't one of the better albums. Most Mountain Goats albums have a concept. This one doesn't. As a result, the stories in these songs tend to go by too quickly and I don't really get into them. There's only 3 songs that I love. "In the Craters on the Moon," "Lovecraft in Brooklyn" and "New Zion." The rest of the songs I like, but don't love. "Craters" is a top 10 Mountain Goats song though.
