Not his best album. I preferred the sound in Goodbye Bread or albums from around the same time, but he's still one of my favorites! Just not this album.

PERFECT REPRESENTATION OF. WHEN AN ARTIST GET’S TOO FULL OF HIMSELF FROM AN ONSLAUGHT OF RECENT PRAISE AND STARTS TO ASSUME THEY CAN DO NO WRONG. INDUSTRIAL SOUNDING NONSENSE THAT DISAPPOINTS. BUMMER. MAYBE THE NEXT ONE WILL BE MORE LISTENABLE AND LESS REPETITIVE.

The best album released during my lifetime thus far. this album is changing everything. it is revolutionary for not only Segall, but us as listeners. The blatant honesty of emotional mugger is frightening. Since hearing the album, I find myself questioning our cultural norms all the time. Its taking over my life. And if you didn't catch the clues from the lyrics, the Californian made a 15 minute movie entitled "Emotional Mugger" visually illustrating the concept which is backed by select fractions of tracks from the LP. He is no longer just a musician, he is an artist. This album helped me understand the difference between the two. He is so smart musically and lyrically, and combines these talents to make, in my opinion, the best record of his yet. It is beautifully artistic, indirectly political, yet painstakingly simple. Stripped down from the futuristic effects, the songs are basic and catchy. I have found that this is the base of Segall's success - simplicity. Its exciting to witness an artist grow like this. We all fell in love with the high school heartbreaker with Slaughterhouse and Goodbye Bread. Now Segall is embracing a new change, he's dropped the guitar and graduated to the rock and roll status equivalent to T Rex, Bowie, and Iggy Pop. There is no one like Ty Segall. In addition, I am impressed with the Muggers line up, which features the members of Wand, King Tuff and of course Mikal Cronin. I mean what a line up! They have meshed all of their knowledge into one super group, and I predict Emotional Mugger will be a significant highlight in music history someday.

A Misunderstood Masterpiece. To the low reviews, stop comparing this album to previous albums of his. This album is beautiful in its own way. It might take a few listens to realize it’s beauty but it truly is an awesome album! From the panning to the synths and the layers of fuzzy guitars this album is one of a kind. -From, Miggz
