fresh vibes... refreshingly different hip hop..positive vibe

People people!!. Listen up people!! Check this out....Aight so maybe they aren't rapping about Christ every song but think about this people Look at most of the rap out there!!! Honestly...They are not rapping about sex drugs and the gangsta life! For reals people Check this....It provides a clean alternative!!!! If you can get people to listen to this other than the other crap rap they listen to what wrong with that??? Honestly! Whether you people wanna believe it or not being mainstream is not bad at all. IT is an opportunity to get people to listen to real rap!!

these guys are NOT rapping for Christ. i agree with oliver OB1... these guys never rap about the gospel like lecrae

concure. hey i concure about the fact that it isnt about what kind of music is being played its all about glorifying God and some people do it different ways than others but keep the focus of Love as we as Christians are taught.

Solid, A Mix of Old and New. Grits have been really working in the studio alot, haven't they? From "Redemption" to "Reiterate," these boys are always concocting new formulas for their Christian inspired-rap to give to their fans while trying to outreach to other crowds. This album has a mix of old and new styles, while trying to progress forward as they start a new era on their own rap label. You have a new, techno/ambient inspired track like "Fly Away," which in my opinion, is the best song on the album. Using a cool ambient background melody that resonates throughout the whole track, the chorus "souls" forward as Bonafide starts, an R&B singer builds it up, then Mac Powell from Third Day finishes it with his distinct, husky voice while driving it down with a guitar. Other tracks to note are "Walking My Way," which takes you back to the rhythms and styles of their earlier Grits albums but having a more modern hip-hop feel to it, the bass line with the cool snare effects make it a cool track to thump to. "Something About You" gives you a more real Grits laid-back track, a Southern feel to it. "Reminds Me" goes 80's as the Grits crew go experimental to remind you of God-inspired memories of your life. "Get It Started" and "Livin' Dreams" goes Southern Crunk. The only song that brings a sour taste is "Turn It Up." Going somewhat Miami NrG/Euro Pop on you, this song is catchy but in terms of spiritual truth there's not much of it. The call of "going to a club" and dancing all night leaves a mixed message to Christian listeners, unless the message is about just having fun. So, this album has a diverse display of their talents in production while trying to go forward. However for some fans, the variety might take away from a continuity that was present in their previous albums like "Factors of the Seven" or "Art of Translation." Yet, I was real pleased to see my Grits crew keep producing quality music that displays their spiritual lyrical gift to spit the Truth. Highlight track has got to be "Fly Away." The rest of the album is a good listen.

shocked. i am mainly shocked on how grits got thousands of peoples attention on ohh ah, but they only have about 50 at the moment. i am also suprised at how Mac Powell is in fly away. You mainly see him in rock and roll/country with third day. Im not saying it's a bad thing i think its good, and obviously so does the buyers... its the top song. But i think Grits are still growing. they are some songs i liked and some that i didn't so i give this a solid 4 stars. I also think Grits TAKE OUT 50 cent Usher, Kayne West. Also if you like these guys check out lecrae, t-bone, teddashii, and they will lead you to more.

This is what we need!!!. When I heard this album I was blown away!!! It's just like when God takes you takes you to another level, these guys have taking thileir music to another level. I'm a high school football coach and I listen to this before practice and game and it gets me going. Some people need to rethink what God really says to them through song because it not always about hands together, eyes closed and singing hyms!!! Gods moving in a different way and we better figure it out or get left!!!!

why not?. why CANT christians rap? if it is singing about God, isnt it technically "worship" just, not a song. it isnt talking about bad stuff.

yall got it wrong. christian music loses its point if its not good music. simply verbalizing scripture in the form of a rap is not what makes a group/album/song "christian". hip hop is about storytelling, hard times, and a lot of emotion. converting "jesus loves me" into a rap is clever and good for a church service, but to evangelize to the world, people that are lost need the reality. not everyone is born into a loving christian home, so groups like grits, rappers like japhia life, etc. do a great job of reaching those people. they make great music that rivals mainstream, relate to their listeners, while still telling the truth of jesus' love

Bro. I tried to tell the world but when I tell them they don't listen. How you rappin but you Christian? They don't get it so they dissn'

Best. these guys are the best. I listen to them all the time.

bringin it home. I never was much of a Grits fan till The Art of Translation. Loved that album! Since then, I have been unimpressed with their following albums and have only dowloaded a few tracks from each. Dare I say that this new album of theirs might actually top The Art of Translation. Anyone who likes Hip-Hop needs to do themselves a favor and get this! Great job guys ;)

Excellent!. At first I was leary of this Rap-Christian stuff. But, when you are trying to reach out to someone stuck in the hip-hop scene, hand them this. Its incredible!! Don't tell them its Christian, just let them listen. Not everyone is ready to fall to their knees. Give them the gift, this gift. One step at a time. One song at a time, their hearts are moved!! We share Our Lord in many ways. Bye the bye, I am glad Mac Powell is on here. It opens the door for us hard rock country folk to find some new grooves!! God Bless~~

Sick song. I love grits they have a lot of good songs

preach to all nations. In the world today it is more difficult to preach the word of God. Mark 13:10 - For the word of God must be preached to all nations. If it is done by a preacher, musician, neighbor, it has to be done. If hip-hop is a way of reaching to other nations, so be it. what would be better....listening to hip-hop artist rap about mistakes they have made and how they realized it and turned to Christ and encourage there audience to do the same and to not make the same mistake they did or listen to rappers about all the possessions they have, all the women they have, all the money and drugs they have and tell them without it all they are nothing.

RELIGION VERSUS RELATIONSHIP...GOD IS IN THIS!!. All I can say about this album is WOW!! JOb well done! I have never posted a comment on anyone's album, but as I read the crazy comments...the only thing that I could think of is RELIGION versus RELATIONSHIP! Religion judges and is dogmatic in the approach, RELATIONSHIP uses discernment and can understand the heartbeat of GOD! Believe it or not these guys have the heartbeat of God in what He is doing in this hour for HIs people of this generation. I work with teens and this is it...that which draws them. Let's not forget that some plant the seed, others water, and then others see the fruit. So, let GRITS do what they do and let us let God do what He does. We can't box Him up nor can we box what God has given them up. I mean afterall...look at some of the people that they have on their albums...if you know anything about Mac Powell or Toby Mac...you would know they would not sell short or compromise the Gosepl for no one. Let's open our hearts and our minds to see God in what these guys have put together...TRUST ME...HE'S ALL UP IN IT...JUST GOTTA BE IN RELATIONSHIP AND NOT RELIGION TO GET THE REVELATION... be challanged..

Bangin. Who says that they are not living by gods grace we all fall short of the glory of god. On the other hand, christian have something else the Father, the son, ajnd the holy spirit. I have been listening to christian hip hop a year after I was saved; and still this is all I listen to I am a ex gang member and dope pusher thanks to GOD im now saved!!!! THis Christian Hip Hop goes hard!!!!!!!!!!

GUYS, LISTEN TO US!. All this arguing makes no sense. If grits wants to go mainstream, fine. think about this. Do you really think we can reach all people of the world by walking up to them and say "if you don't know jesus your going to hell!" ??? NO. we need to wake up and realize what grits is doing. Instead of dragging unbelievers into the church and say BELIEVE IT!, we gottta go out to them, LIKE JESUS DID. So oliver or whoever started this crap, stop it. You are an embarrasment in that ur putting on that us "church going people" are just a bunch of whiners that beat people over the head with a bible everytime some christian artist isn't preaching in their lyrics. I fully support Grits decicion to go mainstream. Nuff Said

Guys, You're wining and complaining depresses me!!! Go chase an atheist or something!!!. Guys, we are Christ's Ambassadors for cryin' in a bucket. Your so busy shoving your noses into other peoples bussness and worrying about them being the perfect examples that you have been planning for them since their birth, like some kind of paranoid monster...err... mother in law. (and i have nothing 'gainst mother in laws) The Bible doesn't say, "pick on those who appear or seem like their faith is weaker." No!!! the Bible says " This is my commandment, love one another like you would love yourselves. I've wasted enough review space already, no matter, I'll be quick. Sky may fall 9/10 Nice song, abit sad though. Walking my way 8/10 The girls that they thought they were in love with until they got to know their character. Fly Away 9/10 The intro is just too long for my taste, ppl get bored quickly, Otherwise it would have recieved a 10/10 Anyway it's about the 2 of them being taken aside by their parents and given the "Manhood talk". Turn it up 7/10 good beat, no moral though. Something about You 9.5/10 Nice, slow and about them repenting and "soaking in His presence" Reminds Me 9.5/10 Being afraid of change but constantly being reminded that God is with them. Get it started 9/10 Starting the revolution for Christ. Livin Dreams 9/10 living their dreams and thanking their fans for the support and givin God the glory. Dusk till Dawn 10/10 Love that isn't love, love that's limited, love that's temporary (a.k.a. Man's love) . Unlimited love from dusk till dawn, morning to evening (God's Love) I Run 10/10 Running from life and personal lies, and God's 4giveness. Beautiful morning 9/10 Love it but did they have to say "Oh my God"? anyways, A desperate young man asking God to shine His light on him, And then realising that it's a beautiful morning. Say Goodbye 8/10 a girl that split up with her boyfriend that can't say goodbye (I think) not too good with the relationship stuff... Blessings, Rezerved

What's with all the argument?. Ok, what i dont understand is why people keep saying that Grits are "on the fence" Christians because they rap. Tobymac and Kirk Franklin have been rapping since the 80's and nobody has doubted that they love Jesus and that they are going mainstream. How is Grits any different than that? Just because people talk about Jesus in a different way doesn't make them bad or anything like that. Click "yes" if you agree and if you love Jesus.

This is an album review. stop discussing religion for now and review the album, which is what this is intended to be on. Sky mall is great verses but i dont like the chorus. Walking my ways verses were awesome chorus wasnt so good either. Fly away's chorus and verses were great. but i dont know if it was just me, but the beats were a little too loud. didn't really like turn it up. something about you was smooth, i liked it. Reminds Me sounded like something out of a techno album. Get it started was amazing, i liked it the most. living dreams was ok. Dusk Till Dawn was awesome. I Run was great lyrics. the last 2 werent that good. overall, they're pretty good. its really hard to find good christian rappers. the only ones i actually like are KJ-52 and Grits. And for the religious comments, u cant expct to hear the message every verse, and have you even listened to the full songs? they do share the message.

From A Christian Rapper. Just because a song doesn't "sound" Christian doesn't mean that it isn't. Jesus came to this earth to die for our sins, on other words, so we could have hope. You are right to a point because Grits is not making songs like Lecrae, but it's the same message. If Jesus could perform miracles in different ways to spread hope, why can't Christians spread hope in different ways? I personally am not a huge fan of Lecrae or Tedashii or the Cross Movement because I can't relate to them. But I can relate through the music that Grits and KJ-52 put out. The Cross Movement takes biblical messages and puts them into songs, but Grits and KJ-52 put out songs that deal with life. More people can relate to Grits, KJ-52, and even Switchfoot because we all go through common situations. Why do you think they are "bigger"? I could go on and on about this... But I'm pretty sure that you get what I'm saying. I hope at least.

GRITS ROCKS!!!!. i feel like these people are amazing and the should have no fear of other christians being hesitant about this they are worshiping in there own way like how others can worship by hymhs they worship with rap.....to God there is no difference....the only difference is the heart <3

Christian Rap. Judging by the reviews, most people are caught off guard by these "rapping Christians". Don't be. They're all over the place now and all of the music I listen to is Christian rap. It really is becoming more and more popular, which is good because these Christian rappers live their messages and don't just do it to make money (ifg that was the aim, why rap about Christ anyway?) So I hope you all will explore Christian rap more because it's wonderful music and even though these guys don't want the money, the deserve every cent so they can continue to share the word of our wonderful God!!!

Great album. Grits has shown their diversity again and it's in a way were it sounds good. I think these guys are up there with cats like outkast from a musical perspective. I really like Fly away. Also great lyricism as always. There is a message, but like many bible verses, you will have to dig deep to get the treasure hidden in the text.

Awesome. Amazing

GRITS. I too was once critical of GRITS for their style, until I manned up and realized that I am not God and I have no right to judge them especially since I don't know their hearts.. Saying that, I hope the Christians reading this undertand that sometimes the judgement that we place on other Christians can play right into the stereotype that we will sacrifice our own because they aren't "following the rules" of what we think Christians ought to be, say, and do. Let God Be the Judge and to Him be the Glory

Rappers who are Christains....... Well even though I am late to this debate I will side with everyone who says you can rap and be a christain....look at dudes like: Lecrae, Flame, Trip lee, KJ-52 and K-drama these guys have Christ in there song with good messages while as for the secular rappers like: Jay-z, T.I. and Lil Wayne those guys have songs about killing, smoking, and so on they are not positve things to examine your life off of if a newborn Christain were to listen to T.I. then he would get wrong things in his mind but if he were to listen to someone such as Lecrae then he can grow off of just 1 track so for this guys I am going to have to say YES you can be a Christain and rap! As a matter a fact I believe that Christain rap is going to overthrow secular! So hands down buy some joints off this album and live your life with holy music in you Ipod not this secular crap they say is positive

Family Feud. You church people are a friggin' embarrassment. Since when is this about what YOU want? You need more Jesus, so you won't be purchasing/supporting this album? Wow, do you leave a church every time it doesn't fit YOU as well? Do you leave Jesus every time He doesn't make sure you feel fantastic? Hey. This isn't about YOU. Get over yourself. GRITS is doing just fine using their platform to reach the unchurched, unsaved crowd. What are you doing to help the cause? About the album itself. GRITS isn't really my cup of tea anymore, musically. But I love the fact that they're using more live instrumentation. Some of these tracks are really creative. Love that the features are mostly outside the box of hip hop. Martha Munizzi drowned in Auto Tune is kind of amusing. The one with Mac Powell is incredible. I give the album three stars. Alright. I'm out. Gonna go watch TBN and listen to K-Love. Need that Jesus.

excellent. i just started to listen to christian rap and i found the will to finally throw all my secular hip hop and this is better than the hip hop i used to listen to you guys are great keep on going

Unless you know these guys...don't pass judgement.. Okay, I'll never understand people who bash Christians who are actually out in the world...trying to make a difference. As a minister myself, I had the opportunity to sit and talk with the guys from Grits. Their heart, their passion is reaching the lost, dying world with their music. However, they do it in a way that is relevant...and dare I say viable...in a market that is normally crowded with profanity, sexual slang, etc. I've seen them countless times in concert, and they are amazing artists, and amazing men. Any of their albums are great!

Awsome.,,,. Ive heard both perspectives on this group. Yeah, it isnt as Godly as Third Day or Micheal W. Smith, but these guys can more easily be a witness to rappers and theyre fans, who are normally lost in this world of sin. i like the guy who said "Who listens to secular rap?liars, drug dealers, ....etc". Thats a good piont. If one of those people come acros a (for example) Mathew West song and a GRITS song, which one will they more likley listen to?GRITS. Then when they hear it more, they will catch on to the lyrics, wether they intend to or not. When they do, what do they hear? not about drive by shootings or sex or gangs and other horrible, ungodly CRAP that the world thinks is "cool" today, but they will hear about marrage and Jesus and how God changes lives. I give them 5 stars for taking a stand in a type of music that is so populated by "christian haters".

One of the best hip/hop artists you never heard of. If you've never heard of this group and you like hip/hop this group will make you change your mind about christian hip/hop artists. They mix they're Southern style smooth rap over some very danceable music. Not only that but they are the type of artists that you don't have to feel uncomfortable if you're 6 or 7 year old is listening to. This is not their most message focused album, but they can certainly make you bob your head to the beat with some sharp on point lyrical styling.

What happened?. what happened to vintage GRITS? they need to bring back the creativity from art of translation and the dichotomy duo. their new stuff is really bad

Jesus wants us to reach out EVERYONE. In response to the last review that we shouldn't reach out to liars, theives, drug dealers, etc....but those are the people that need Jesus most. Do you know how stuck up that sounds? "We should only reach out to good people..the people who REALLY need it most." Well who is to decide who needs it most. Jesus hung out with the "bad" people, and tax collecters and fishermen. Are we any better than Jesus? I didn't think so. So get your priorities...and your faith in line. Oh and this album is okay..I like the previous Grits albums better. m

AWSOME. Grits is awsome I loved them since their first cd

What an album!!!!. Grits just keep coming with it. The song "Sky May Fall" is an eye opener, helping us realizze that the world is slowly destroying itself and "Fly Away" is just awesome by itself. Lastly, "Turn it Up" is another hit joint that you can dance too!!! Great job Grits, keep it up and continue to have God lead yall!! Fan for life!!!!

Is this our witness?. All the arguing on this thread hurts my heart... what are we here for you guys? Why are we so divided? I have yet to sit down with the members of Grits to understand their heart behind this album, and I would venture to guess that neither has anyone else on here. So how are so many judging their faith without allowing them to defend themself. Is there music going against the word of God, or is it just not your style of music? If you feel it's the first, ok... but bring biblical proof. But if it's the second... then just find something you like, say this isn't you style and move on.

Everything Doesn't have to be about Christ! This is their best!. Wow you people are not smart! So Oliver you are pretty much saying that all the music you listen to is all about GOD and they cannot talk about anything else? Wow get a life! You think GRITS Is worse I think they are BETTER!

Man the more things change the more they stay the same.. I cant beleive 20 years later I am hearing the same old arguements. We all want to walk as straight of a Christ centered line as we can and I beleive Grits is doin just that. This discussion is the same I am hearing when you first heard of Christians doin metal in the 80's. How much God-speak is enough for it to be real to Christians and relevant to the world? Anyone who knows Grits know they speak of the Lord often. Their is no specific formula for a Christian song and you folks who disagree are walking awfully close to legalism. Certain artists wrote incredible inspired music to God without lyrics such as Johanne Sebastian Bach. Back then one could try to make the arguement that certain chords were not Christian. The subject of music has always been a very difficult subject and when Christians are in the midst of it, the difficulty grows exponentially. Be careful brothers and sisters.

Why can't Christians rap?. I think it's awesome that Christians sing to every type of music. I personally like rap and I'm glad there are guys out there that are rappin about stuff that really matters. Keep it up!

"Album reviews" are inherently judgmental.... It's interesting to see the "don't be so judgmental" crowd judging the "judgmental Jesus" crowd for judging Grits' latest effort as too "man-centered" or "mainstream". Wow, can ya wrap your brain around that? People will inherently disagree about how overtly spiritual/religious a Christian artist's work should be, be it musical/visual/performing, etc. It's an interesting discussion to have, but at the end of the day, can we put our critiques aside and give thanks to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for giving us mercy and saving our oh-so-judgmental selves!!?? Amen!

Christian Rap: Evolution?. Who among me loves the fact that the word of God is spread by more than mere hymnals and choirs? The GRITS are among those who take a less traditional path in talking about God. People should not focus on the person or entity delivering the message of God and should just listen to the message, period. God bless...

sick of you ignorant people. This has been absurd for me to read some of these reviews. All you ignorant christian who think that these artists should make their music Christ centered? I heard a song one time from flipsyde, about how he is against abortion. He doesn't promote Christ and his death and resurection but it is still a Christ centered album. you need to look at the MESSAGE they are protraying. It p**ses me off when you ignorant self righteous fools think someone is not talking about Christ as much as they should. Do me a favor and open up your heart to their message. And then listen to some Common Market and try finding a good God given message that comes from a Non-christian group. 1) Open your minds. 2) Don't judge people. 3) Don't be so stuck up and stubborn. PEACe

IS IT REALLY GRITS????????. i mean c'mon grits is really losing it, not because they dont talk bout Christ alot, but They aint that good anymore, redemption and 7 were much better than this stuff theyre makin now!!!!

GREAT MUSIC. LOVE IT !!!

There's no such thing as "Christian" music. There's no such thing as "Christian" music. The word "Christian" is not an adjective. It's a noun. There is music that talks about Christ and what it means to live out a relationship with him just like there is music that talks about parties and relationships and drugs. This CD is great because it is straight up good music. I don't always want to listen to rap that talks about the gospel. I want stuff I can jam out to sometimes and I want stuff I can chill with sometimes. People who think that an artist who is a Christian has to talk about Christ in every lyric of a song need to check themselves. It's not heresy to talk about other things just as long as it's done right. This CD is fresh air in the midst of stale rap. Buy it.

Thankful for Grits, but..... I seriously appreciate good music. Profanity isn't necessary for music. Just like religion isn't necessary for humanity. Everybody is a hypocrite and To each their own. Stop ostracizing and killing in gods name. Grits, please keep the good vibes and music coming. Thank you.

Christian Rap??. This is positive music. If you want Christian Rap check out Lecrae, Flame, Da. Truth, Phanatik, Ambassador, Prophess, Trip Lee, Tedashi. Sho Baraka

Not Man-centered. Ok, there's a difference between rap which flows without necessarily being a sermon, and man-centered rap. Man-centered rap exalts man as the ultimate, and his pleasure/power the goal. That isn't what is found here. I love Grits because of their skill is undeniable and their beats are top-notch without being marred by the language and sex that poisons so much rap. It's not a sermon, but it doesn't feed my flesh or it's appetites, or draw my focus away from God either. That's the standard I measure by, and so far so good.
