Light Airy Pop. Human League, Erasure, Duran Duran, New Order, A Flock of Seagulls, Pet Shop Boys, Early Depeche Mode. ‘Gasoline’ sounds exactly like Human League. Phenomenal song. Enjoyed the record. Everything old is new again.

Abel never fails. Without fail, Abel provides us with an album that takes you through a myriad of emotions. Don’t be fooled by the 80’s city pop and synth wave. This man’s lyrics show us the depth of melancholy in a life that is depicted by depression and possible regret. A true artist.

Best Album Forever!!!. It’s such a good album from the groovy baseline of “Out of time” to the upbeat drums of “Less than Zero” it’s an amazing and groovy album.

Hello 1980’s!. I never leave reviews but my god, this album…amazing.

Great. I was hooked from the start and love the beats. It never disappoints and all the songs are great!! Don't listen to anybody who saying bad about this album. My first The Weekend purchase and I so happy about it!!

ALBUM OF THE YEAR. This album is truly legendary. I was expecting good from Abel but this is even better than anything I could have expected!

Gen Z music. This is also the soundtrack to Kardashian’s/Jenner’s/people living in LA.

This is something else. To be honest, I never heard anything like Dawn FM. To me, it’s not just some album, it’s something I can relate to. I love listening to Sacrifice and Out of Time. But Less Than Zero is so different to me. I can listen to Less Than Zero all day, every day, and not get sick of it.

Japanese 80s music rip off. So I’m guessing The Weeknd found the Japaneses gold era of the 80s and decided to steal the beat lol.

A magic filled journey. I discovered this album a week ago and I absolutely cannot stop listening to it! It depicts a synth wave radio station with Jim Carrey as the disk jockey/ narrator which is so cool. I can’t get the sounds of the opening track Dawn FM and the transition of Best Friends and Is There Someone Else out of my head it’s that good! Dawn FM is the best album of the year.

Something new and I love it!!!. This album was a piece and art and although it was different then what we are used to hearing from The Weeknd, it was amazing in its own way. Personally, Best Friends is my favorite off this album but there are plenty more songs that I fell in love with. I feel as though many listeners expected the music we are used to receiving from Abel (his old hits) but an artist that doesn’t evolve isn’t a true artist. We can still listen to his past music instead of mourning it as it will always be there but now we have something new to add to the collection.

Another Weeknd Success. The album is a must listen. Its more of a radio station than an actual album with transitions from one song to the next. It brings some nostalgic to it. Got some Daft Punk, MJ, and Prince influences. Jim Carrey was a great addition along with Quincy Jones. My fav song is Sacrifice. The others are great. 🔥🔥💯💯

One of the Best Albums. I love this album. Yes it has flaws but for example, thriller had some too. This album has so much fun styles that are so cool. Sacrifice is a bop, Take My Breath is so good. I don’t think this album is bad other than the Gasoline UK accent. This album is one The Weeknd’s best and I love this project.

Totally sick. I listened to this album first day on the first minute, I’ll be honest some of the songs are kinda weak but they do not go on for long and all the songs are so well integrated and produced I can’t even complain. I love the weeknd, I’ve been listening to him since my brother introduced me to him in 2011, the different sounds and this 70s-80s synthwave stuff he’s been doing is great. I love the sound, listen to this if your into albums that are even more than the music it’s self and rather a experience, they try to make it into a fm radio that is just one entire song leading you into heaven. I could go for hours on about this album, but I just recommend you listen to it and decide for yourself!

Deeply underwhelming. It feels like The Weeknd took a step back to his older vocal style whilst trying to replicate the success of his disco music from After Hours but it just sounds like one very long track with the same production. You can’t really even pick Take My Breath out from the rest of the mess because even that blends in even though I like that song (the only one) and please, unless you’re Billie Eilish or Adele, you do not know how to do narration on an album.

80s throwback. The verdict is still out but this at the moment reminds me of a 80s movie soundtrack.

Bland, forgettable and yet semi-nostalgic. After heavy hitters like Blinding Lights and Starboy in the past, this album was pretty meh. I like the 80’s vibe, but it focuses too much on chilled out music and lacks the energy of previous albums. I’d give this a miss and listen for free on YouTube

Incredible. An incredible concept, executed flawlessly. The man’s ambition, hard work and talent continues to make him this generations stand out talent. Always changing and evolving but maintaining the through lines of familiar themes throughout this work. The guys a genius, listen to the album from start to finish in one go to appreciate it fully.

WOW!. This is EPIC!!! His best album to date! ‘Less than Zero’ is awesome & ‘Take my Breath’ has a slight resemblance to the 80’s British group Wham’s ‘Young Guns’ (go for it) whilst in the instrumental part mid-way reflects Donna Summer’s ‘I feel Love!’ This track is possibly the stand out track in my opinion!… closely followed by the other 15 tracks on the album! ;-) #Class

DOESNT DISAPPOINT. For me it was impossible for it to beat After Hours and Star boy, however it’s a really interesting way of structuring an album and I really enjoyed it all. Give it a full listen and wait till you can do it in one go it definitely gives the vibe off a lot better, well done Abel you’ve gone and done it again!! XO

Boring. Almost all the songs sound the same - generic 80s vibe. The subject matter is repetetive and uninteresting (where is the lyrical ingenuity of Kiss Land or House of Baloons!?). Unfortunately, it's another case of an artist selling their soul for commercial success.

I had no idea which direction The Weeknd was going to go after the incredible ‘after hours’ but Dawn FM is absolutely unreal… 80’s vibe present throughout the whole record. The Weeknd has done it again and created a masterpiece. You should listen to the record from start to finish, no skips, no distractions… take it all in.

ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC. what a cohesive album, love the theme of a radio station, embedded within, and the transitions between each song is perfect! It feels much more than an album, like a whole experience! A brilliant “sonic universe” from the weeknd! My favourite of his albums so far!

Devotion.. Abel Tesfaye’ latest venture is an album centred around a radio-themed evening with the guest host vocal stylings of beloved comedian Jim Carrey whom features fairly prominently throughout this body of work. Jim is the host of this evening’ radio styled show casually and flawlessly acting as a guide and upbeat host. Post-intro with titular intro track “Dawn FM” and succulently voiced over with Jim Carrey and fades out with instrumentals before the The Weeknd leads us into “Gasoline” which explodes in the ears as a poppy-synth falsetto-ridden sweet trip. The next is the house-music inspired track "How Do I Make You Love Me" which just screams all the beauty of the work explored in previous albums that dwelled in the late 70s, 80s and early 90s experimental synth. Leading into this is the “Take My Breath” which has synth, drum and bass galore reminiscent of an early Daft Punk inspired song. The production just from the first four tracks demonstrates the ever-evolving skill level from Abel. The latter, and the next song “Sacrifice”, are dance-floor bangers with deep basslines and the hallmarks of 90s romanticism. It also incorporates the current bedroom-style like albums that have become so evident in lockdown years; albums made in quiet absolution and kept secret – like current artists Billie Eilish, Ben Khan and others, it feels grandiose and instantly personal. “A Tale By Quincy” is a spoken-word interlude that feels ever so dreamy. “Out of Time” is Abel’s signature Michael Jackson jam with all the sultry vocal cadence that mimics the master musician himself; an ode to a would-be unreleased track from Jackson’ repertoire. Abel is the closest in comparison to the control, range and talent to Jackson and this is a particular highlight to that influence and transitions with Carrey leading us into “Here We Go… Again.” This feature with Tyler, the Creator, is a slower early 2000s R&B track with slower spoken lyrics and brings album pace down a bit before leading out. “Best Friends” reinvigorates with a deep hard bassline as previous tracks that goes in a softer than the more experimental material aforementioned. “Is There Someone Else” draws us back to Abel’s more sensual and romantic beginnings, earnest and pure flowing in falsetto. Post interlude this is the pace change that feels organic to classic Weeknd music, where the day feels at its end and you play some modern jazz. “Starry Eyes” continues this reduced pace before slow boosting to an atmospheric bass and echoing vocals supported by synth – with all the feeling of a romantic film soundtrack that cleverly maintains its subtle pace without leading the listener on. “Every Angel...” is a transitional advertisement between songs, experimental and yet organic to the themes of the album. Feeling familiar like a radio station from GTA3 or 4 – where Abel clearly is also a fan of the series. “Don’t Break My Heart” is where Abel likes to try vocal cadences that don’t usually fit, he drastically changes his speaking and singing tone to a more authoritarian and then dives back into smoother changes – like “Gasoline.” The accent is accentuated – very much like the song; it’s punctuated with strong riffs and electronic beats. After we get a featured track with Lil Wayne on “I Heard You’re Married” where Wayne adds that deeper layer to the song that doesn’t feel too out of place. We’re then treated to a blissful track “Less That Zero” which closes out as the penultimate as a bright light to the reduced pace at the interlude mark. An 80s driven synth track that feels like ecstasy. Using that up tempo chord change on keyboards prominent in 80s tracks to give a rounded off evening some stupor. The final track “Phantom Regret…” closes out the album with Jim Carrey’ poetic musings while Abel adds his atmospheric vocals in the background interweaving between Carrey’ words. After a new but familiar start to the year which feels remnant and stagnant of 2021, and 2020; Abel has crafted probably the biggest album of the year at just seven days in. He offers some calm and wickedness for the beginning of this uncharted year that is very much in the vein of The Weeknd, pushing down ambiguity with his artistic certainty.

Bland and uninspiring. The last album was fantastic. But this??? Did he write and record it under the influence of sleeping pills? It’s not good

I really don’t like the art direction of the last two albums covers, but I’m not buying it for his image - the music is what we’re here for, for that The Weeknd scores a “SLAM DUNK!” ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🎧

One word: AMAZING!. Just when you thought the After Hours album was his best body of work, mature and polished, The Weeknd hits you hard again with Dawn FM. An incredible album full of rich textures, unforgettable hooks and melodies. Haunting, yet beautiful, powerful, yet fun. With a narration by comedy legend, Jim Carrey, the album works in so many ways. Every song is a killer. Look out for "Best Friends", "How Do I Make You Love Me", "Take My Breath" and "I Heard You're Married". Highly recommended! XO for Life.
