311's music do not lend itself to be played by orchestras. I love 311, but this is pretty sad. The setlist is weak, but either way, 311 to me is too raw, and to punkish to sound good with violins and cellos, etc. Maybe the more reggae oriented songs would have worked like 1,2,3 and Purpose, but just because a song has a slow pace doesn't mean that it will make for a good orchestra arrangement. I might be bias, because I really dislike bands rearranging their songs with orchestras, with the exception of Rush's last live album just because their set was based on Clockwork Angels, which has a more progressive rock feel and the orchestras sound well with that type of music. I however commend 311 for trying things, but I just hope they go back to the studio and deliver another hard rock sounding, reggae-dub infected record like the last one!
Pretty Good. Nice but could be mixed better.
It’s good.. Sort of my fault. But, I came in expecting similar sound quality as Metallica’s S&M’s album…unfortunately it’s not that. Don’t get me wrong. This is a fantastic listening experience from one of my favorite bands, but I just appreciated the sounds from the band more so than the actual orchestra. In my opinion, the brass was playing far too hot for an “orchestra” setting and the mix on the strings wasn’t quite there. Nevertheless, if you are a 311 fan this is a great addition to your library.
Good choice of songs. It’s not an easy thing to mix an orchestra and 311. Fortunately they chose a solid group of songs. I only wish they had done inner light spectrum. Good job!
I was there!. Love this, so glad they record the 311 Day shows. But was this the whole set with the orchestra?? I think a few songs are missing.
