Amazing.. Truly amazing album. This band is made up of very talented musicians, and the music they make is just so enjoyable. With such great players, all the instruments just kind of sound right together. There are very little people like them out there. Their songs are just beautiful and downright awesome. Five stars, two thumbs up, and I would highly recommend this album highly to whoever is reading this.
I mean... if you really like this kinda stuff.. I suppose this album is alright. If you're into groundbreaking ideas of musical form and chordal structure coupled with ingenious and surprisingly compatible genres of music. If you enjoy the same old hum-drum shallow minded simple music than this album is not for you. I guess you should only buy this album if you want something new and fresh to listen to that doesn't get old and can riddle your body with those pesky goosebumps. If thats not what you are looking for. Then I'd go somewhere else.
total crap!. I bought this because it made the top ten bluegrass album of the year. I wish I could get my money back! Unless you like new age not grass stay away from this one.
Breath Taking!. Hands down the best sounding acoustic record I've ever heard. This record is another mile marker for music in the likes of "Sgt. Peppers" and "Pet Sounds". Ok. Maybe that is a little over the top but a ground breaking record nonetheless. The material is more accessible than their last release "Punch" but just as compelling, if not more. Bravo Punch Brothers!
Dynamic. Genre bending. Entertaining. Genius. Everything I've come to expect of these guys.. "Antifogmatic" is a collection of quirky characters you might expect to find wandering around a city street circa 2 AM. It's a smart sophomore release for the Punch Brothers, and though it is still intricately crafted, it is much more unified and accessible than "Punch". "Alex" and "This is the Song" are catchy and melodic, while "Rye Whisky", a driving ode to the bands love for the drink, and "Don't Need No", which sounds almost like a band jam session, will have you stomping along in time. "You Are" comes close to rock then morphs into an ethereal chorus. “Next to the Trash” is the most traditional sounding bluegrass instrumental, though the animated lyrics are undoubtedly touched by Thile’s well-versed hand. Thus far, I have thoroughly enjoyed both the character and the complexity of “Antifogmatic”, though none of the tracks come close to the dimension or continuity of “Blind Leaving the Blind” off the previous record, and I am consistently impressed with the Punch Brothers’ ability to master their instruments in such a way that allows them to plow through the borders of so many unsuspecting genres.
