It will win you over!. I have been a phan for over 15 years and saw my first Phish show in '94. Over the years Phish has always struggled putting there style in the studio, but they have done some good ablums. Based on the last few albums I was not expecting much from Joy, and wasn't in any rush to buy it. But once I did I saw a Phish that has grown up... as I have. Its mature and well produced and well played. My music tastes have changed as I've gotten older and Phish's music has changed too as time has pasted, I find it refreshing and enjoyable. If your stuck on Phish of the mid '90s then your out of luck... and probably have been since the mid '90s... imagine that!! I loved Phish then, and I love Phish now... a band that continues evolve and mature and take us in new directions. Sit back and enjoy this album... its good music, have fun with it!!

Just OK. "The White Album" - "Farmhouse" are all awesome albums. The band is made up of some of the most gifted musicians - EVER - in my opinion. There are countless songs that literally send shivers down my spine when I listen to them because they are so good and nothing beats a live Phish show, but what happened after "Farmhouse". Something changed. I don't know if they just ran out of ideas or changed their approach to writing music, but something has changed. I really like the songs "Ocelot", "KDF", and "Sugar Shack" on this album and "Time Turns Elastic" has it moments, but the rest of the songs are just OK. Definently better than "Round Room" or "Undermind", but PLEASE Trey, Mike, Page, and John go back to your roots!

It's Still Phish. Phish is my favorite band and 3 stars is lowest I would ever rate a Phish release. I suppose one could say that Phish has matured since Junta, but I personally miss the whimsicality and pure fantasy from the days when gamehenge was center stage. At it's worst, Joy offers us banal and silly lyrics like 'we want you to be happy, cause this is your song too' along with a heavy dose of nostalgia rearing its boring head at times. Time Turns Elastic and Light are enjoyable jams, if not somewhat deflated in comparison with Phish jam classics like "Mike's Song" or "You Enjoy Myself". Still, though, since it's Phish, I will continue to listen to this album.
