Great!!!. Love this movie and the singing is great!!!

Madonna Ccicome and Antonio Banderas in Evita. Starstriking. A Triumph!

It's okay.... The only thing that draws me to this soundtrack is antonio banderas and the beautiful lyrics, thanks to tim rice and andrew lloyd webber. But otherwise, i try so hard to listen to Madonna but she's so very bland. To be honest she's not the best singer and a strong part like evita should go to a strong singer. I feel like this soundtrack could be so much better if the part of Evita went to another. I'll stick to the broadway recordings for now...

Solid film recording. The first Evita album I ever heard was actually the '76 concept album, and many of those performances remain near and dear even now. Julie Covington is my favorite Evita. Patti LuPone has some mad talent, but I don't like her extremely dramatic interpretations. *ducks rotten tomatoes* She's still better than Madonna, though, and she is the primary reason I don't enjoy this as much as I'd like to. I saw the film back when it came out, and Madonna looked the part; she could do both street urchin and first lady pretty well, and watching her glam '40s attire tended to distract me from her incredibly weak vocals. Now that there are no visuals, it's even more glaringly obvious, though. No hate for Madonna, though, it's just not what she does. I didn't find Antonio Banderas's accent off-putting at all. It lent a bit more authenticity to the performance for me, although he's obviously not from Argentina. Maybe if I spoke Spanish or could at least hear the differences between accents, then it might be distracting. But he's a great singer and an even better actor (although you miss some of that with an audio recording, of course), and I like his interpretation of this role a lot; in fact I'd say he's my favorite (NOT because he's hot, although that doesn't hurt). Most Chés I hear just sound too…NICE. Ricky Martin is a prime example, and how that performance earned a Tony nomination is beyond me. The rest of the cast is good, nothing earth-shattering, but a solid cast for a Hollywood film. And our two leading men, Jonathan Pryce and Jimmy Nail, were a real surprise to me when I first saw the film. I had no idea either of them sang at all! I personally bought this for two major reasons: 1) Antonio Banderas, and 2) the orchestrations. Some recordings do compensate for the limitations of a theater orchestra pit by bringing in a larger one for official recordings. But a major Hollywood movie, especially a musical, will almost always have larger orchestras, and ALW's music deserves to be heard this way. If you are planning to purchase just one Evita album, I wouldn't recommend this one--but I say that as someone who enjoys stage musicals, so it depends on your taste. If you have only seen the film, I recommend you at least preview some songs on other recordings before you make your purchase. You may find the more traditional theatre-style of singing not to your liking--or you may fall in love with one of them. You never know. Happy listening!

Very good movie but..... This movie was great, but if you want the music from Evita buy the soundtrack with patti lupone, it's 10 times better. Antonio Banderas is probably the only reason you should buy any of these versions of the songs.
