Unparalleled. As a choral conductor, Robert Shaw had no equals. This recording is unusual since the chorus is smaller than the ones heard in most other recordings. This beats his later recording with the Atlanta Symphony, and other recordings with large vocal ensembles, such as the Mormon Tabernacle choir and virtually all other performers. The soloists are also stellar. Kopleff was exemplary in this and many other recordings. Richard Lewis shines,as well as the others. This is the recording to get; there’s nothing better after 50 years. Hi
The best modern recording.. This is the best modern recording of Handel's magnum opus that I have found to date. I've listened to and performed Handel's Messiah many times and I believe this recording to be the most fun and enjoyable yet.
