TF. Message = Liberal lovefest. Music = Awesome.
I just poo'd myself. Their back! Buy this album should you have any taste in music. Another solid release by the band.
Big No Use fan, but let's be real.... It seems these guys are running out of material. A lot of generic, vague 'Hate America' NoFX-type songs (really guys, if you've had it so bad, then just leave), and then some emo-esque love songs. They've developed a formula and become cookie-cutter, which is something they were not on Leche, Making Friends, and More Betterness. They've become more whiny and lost muscle over the years, and I think they've lost popularity too. I always appreciated the way they could mix power, speed, and melody but there's something missing these days. A postcard would be nice, cause they are mailing it in.
Swan Song. Such a bittersweet album. It takes a couple of spins to really connect with the groove, but once you do, you will be angry --no-- furious that we'll never see its followup. Incredibly complex arrangements that sound deceivingly simple, driven by passion & anger, and refined by Bill Stevenson's masterclass rock production. The pop-punk medium has truly been pushed to its outer limits on this record. Lyrically, some have derided it as liberal propaganda, which is a shame because that cuts the message short. Topics like class war and world poverty can be explored by anyone, regardless of their political affiliation, and this is Tony spilling out his heart with regards to what bothers him about the world. On a personal note, I'm crushed that I will never have the opportunity to tear it up in the pit to "I Want to be Wrong".
R.I.P.. Tony Sly
