their best collaborative effort..... "Seven Moons" is stellar. Not only the best effort of the three collaborations between Trower and Bruce, but this record contains both the rush and the elegance that defines each man's career. The live-in-the-studio voodoo of this recording could serve as a beacon for the young musicians out there flailing in the barren landscape of flat, auto-tuned, cut-and-paste collages folks call music these days. This album is a revelation: three artists in a room together making music the old-fashioned way, by living it in the moment.
Trower and Bruce haven't lost a step. This, the third effort from the power duo, is a balanced production of well recorded and masterfully played compositions. Aside from the thoughtful and insightful compositions, there is no way telling these icons are now senior citizens (not that it's a bad thing.) Trower, once again, reaches a new height of artistry. His Fender Stratocaster lush with Fulltone effects soars and titilates. As a blues guitarist Trower continues to write new chapters in methodology and technique; and Bruce's operatic vocals have lost little over the years. The songs are are soulful, funky and unmistakenly hard rock. Trower revisits his Hendrixian roots and lays down rhythms ala Band of Gypsys/Experience. The riffs are countered with Bruce's sage lyrics and smooth yet poweful singing. Robin Trower's soloing is more complex, exploratory and, quite frankly, better than ever. This is a must-listen for all Trower and Bruce fans, as well those appreciative of modern blues and excellent musicianship.
Stick with BBM. Two greats who still are but have released an average CD. If you're big fans of Jack Bruce and Robin Trower (like me), you'll find this CD worthwhile. Otherwise, the songwriting simply isn't good enough to warrant purchasing the whole CD. Pick the songs you like and download them. A better collaberative effort was the Jack Bruce, Ginger Baker, and Gary Moore CD, BBM - Around the Next Dream, which had GREAT songs and was a legitimate throwback to the glory days (the name of one of the songs) of Cream.
Rock'n'Roll had a baby. They call it the Blues. This is a gem. Two great musicians on a great album. That voice. The tone of the guitar and bass. Good stuff. But be warned, the best rockers are old. Let's hope that they never fade away. This is serious music from classic rockers. If you haven't heard it. Buy it. You'll like it. Now get back to your Lady Gagadavida, babee...
Groovy. Best thing Jack Bruce has done since Cream and best Trower has done since Bridge of Sighs in my opinion. The lyrics are deep, the guitar tones are soulful, epic, bluesy, and far out. Jack Bruce's voice has aged better than any of his peers from the 60s and his bass playing is awesome as ever before. I honestly got into Robin Trower because of my love for Hendrix and though I now see Trower as his own genius I still can hear plenty of Hendrix sounding stuff that makes my heart smile.
