Village Idiot Not So Idiotic. I invite all who think the Vilage Idiot is an infidel to read Tom Wolfe's 'The Painted Word.' In it, he shows how in the 20th Century visual art, as is the case here, the form itself became the content (e.g. how a canvas that is painted jet black or a picture of a soup can can be considered art because it's "important," or simply because the "artist" did it first.). Alas, this is what Pierrot Lunaire represents. I badly want to love Schoenberg's music, but can't because he was experimenting with forms, ones which often times failed in terms of having any musical content (not always - some of his music is better than others). Shostakovich, Webern, Berg, Prokofiev, Part, etc. all created real music. Pierrot Lunaire alas is a failed experiment. LM
A solid, cheap, classic recording.. Pierrot Luniar's influence on the modern western art music world is obvious and would be redundant to delve into. Such an artistically important piece should have a place in the library of anyone who might think its cool. Here, the music is well represented and the price (the real selling point for any musicians) is crazy awesome. Six bucks? A steal to be sure. Even if the music was written by a drunk guy looking for desperate musicians...
To the "VillageIdiot":. Your pseudonym is most apt. You are truly an idiot. Do us all a favor and keep your musical ignorance and lack of taste to yourself.
villageidiot. you truly are. i bet you can't even figure out a matrix.
Pierrot Lunaire. This would have been more interesting if it had included music. I mean honestly, what this guy do? get drunk, sit down and write notes at random on a sheet of paper, stand back and say " hmm lets see how many desparate musicians I can find." "Twelve tones" doesn't have to exclude harmony. The soloist sounds like she's on LSD.
