Released before?. Hmmm, what can I say...I am a great Depeche Mode fan ever since....This is a great collection of there greatest hits and a good start for anyone who like Depeche Mode. I love electronic music in general...beside DM I listen to songs like Contest by Liedschatten or tracks from the album Balearic House Map or even Deepest Shades Of House. All in all great music!!

(Some of) The Best of Depeche Mode Vol. 1. While certainly not completely comprehensive, The Best Of compilation album has many of the greatest hits of the band (many of these being the most chart topping). Beginning DM fans, or those with very limited budgets will find the album quite useful, as it certainly has a great range of songs. It contains early hits like Just Can’t Get Enough, See You, and New Life. It also has many of the later hits Personal Jesus; Dream On; Suffer Well; and Precious among many more. Plus it contains the newest single not found on any other album, Martyr. It really is a good mix playing pretty smoothly from start to finish. The nice thing about actually buying the CD though, is that if you buy the special edition you get 23 music videos and “The Best of Depeche Mode A Short Film” which goes through their career and most if not all of the songs on this album.

With and without Alan. If anything this collection highlights the quality of the Alan Wilder era songs and the weaker singles (Suffer Well. Precious, etc) post-Alan. This collection illustrates how Alan gave DM a progressive unique sound, while the newer stuff is guitar driven and mediocre. On the other hand Dave's vocals have improved over time and is more expressive than in the earlier music. Martin's guitar playing remains weak (sorry Martin!!!) and ultimately distracts. Fletcher?? Who knows what he does, but he did it better in the 80s and early 90s. Martin writes great songs and lyrics, but those songs need Alan's touch to fulfill their potential. Alan completes the circle.
