eminem. not his best. He sound eminem.... THink EM help him with this
Current, Classic, Timeless. "Masta Ace has always managed to remain current and totally classic in the exact same breath." That sentence was pulled directly from Masta Ace's website and describes this album quite succinctly. Masta Ace's lyricism is Hall of Fame worthy. His storytelling ability can be rivaled by only one other, the great Slick Rick. However, Masta Ace gets the nod as the greatest storyteller of all-time, because he continues to produce. Disposable Arts disproves the belief that hip-hop is dead, and does it in a clever manner. "Commercial", "Roommates Meet", and "Classes" might be the best transition songs (stories) on any album - ever. It captures the state of hip-hop in 2001 and eerily foretells hip-hop's cancerous tumor; one that is malignant and only barely in remission. "The Release", "Too Long", and "Unfriendly Game" are the truth. There is no better way to describe those tracks. The first half of the album will stay in heavy rotation. The second half isn't a strong, but Ace finishes strong with "Dear Diary" and "No Regrets". After all that praise, you would think this album would earn 5-stars - not so. Allow me to stand on my soapbox for a moment. While Masta Ace's storytelling ability mesmerizes me, I equally cringe at his use of the N-word. I grew up in the 1980's listening to my father's distaste for hip-hop and artist's usage of the word. I grew up in the 1990's using the word myself. Excuse my hypocrasy. I did not recognize my self-hatred. Nor did I recognize my responsibility to hold myself and hip-hop accountable to build this artform to leave it in a better state than I had joined it. I completely understand that not everyone has the capacity of being social and political consciencious. I also understand that I cannot place that responsibility on Masta Ace's mantle. However, I hold out that fifth star in the hopes that my expectations can grow on others who love and respect hip-hop. I hold out that fifth star in the hopes that my expectations will join other faint voices calling for a change in our music. I hold out that fifth star in the hopes that Masta Ace will read this review and record a five-star album.
Great but..... This is a great album really worth it. But does anyone think that maste sounds like Eminem on this album??
Incredible Album. The whole concept for the album is incredible. Masta Ace is about as articulate as they come in Hiphop
Incredible Album. If you want real hip-hop and not candy coated gangster rap, this is your album. take a walk is the definite highlight, creating an eerie atmosphere while ace tears apart anyone who claims "it was all good." Five stars.
