Sweet Repentance!. Finally the long awaited version of Hemispheres Live! It is 14:45 of pure perfection. Xanadu, Jacobs Ladder, and Cygnus all off the chart live. Geddy’s voice may be the best I have ever heard on a live album. He hits all the notes on Freewill and then some. I downloaded this the night it came out and I can’t stop listening to it. The band is so tight on the live stuff. The remaster of the album is good. They got it right the first time so there is not a lot of improvement. There is a little more bottom end so it does sound a little fuller. I was very disappointed they did not give a full live show for the 40th anniversary of Hemispheres, but they knocked it out of the park on this one. They did some rearranging to make make Cygnus and Hemispheres shorter, but it really works. The live stuff is from different shows so some songs fade together and some don’t. This is not the full show, but what is included is very good. I think this is worth every penny!

Peak Rush. Permanent Waves was arguably Rush's finest hour - The Spirit of Radio the perfect blending of what came before (proggish electicism/complex times and changes) and what was to come (shorter arrangments, more accessible lyrics)...while Jacob's Ladder and Natural Science may be the two best songs in the band's catalog (each featuring the equally brilliant drumming and lyrics of the dear departed Professor). Freewill is a tour de force of instrumental virtuosity (essentially an instrumental masterfully fitted with provocative lyrics). Already from this 40th anniversary edition we have two of the bonus live tracks, and each is scorching hot (not sure why the band would have held these back, but we know they were rather selective to say the least in terms of what they deemed worthy of makeing public).

Live Hemispheres!. One of Rush’s best albums is made better by including what amounts to a second disc of live tracks including Cygnus Book-II Hemispheres. Much to my disappointment the 40th Anniversary of Hemispheres didn’t include a live version of Hemispheres so these bonus live tracks are very exciting. Thank you Rush for so many great memories and RIP Neil!
