awsome. best stuff joe has done in a long time and this lady can sing!
Instant favorite. Beth's vocals & joes insane guitar talents along with some really special arrangements make this one of my favorites. Best album I've purchased in years!
Mr Eneix. Beautifully done hits all the right spots
Two Words. Frigging Awesome!
OMG!!. Gets me in the gut....
Fell off the seesaw. OK, you guys have got to do what you wanted with your first two albums. If you make a third one, PLEASE do some hard-rockin' blues. PLEASE!
Excellent. Excellent
Love it!. Joe and Beth are the best !! Love it, Love it more every time I listen to it......
Can't let this one go...... Very nice.....There are some things that just go together, pork chops and applesauce, PB and Jelly and Joe and Beth. They got it all right here....all the sounds come together, if you don't have this, you don't have nothin'. Baby "can't let go"....we won't....
Joe B and Beth H - match made in heaven. These two were born to make music together. While not all these songs are great, it is a great collection. For example, I've never been a fan of Nutbush City Limits, but I really like the job Joe and Beth do on this song. Also, Miss Lady is just not my cup of tea. Other than that this is a great effort. Definitely a solid addition to any blues collection.
Two of the most under-rated musicians together. As a Joe Bonamassa fan, I have become comfortable with the fact that Joe is the "best guitarist you have never heard of”, and has become a badge of honor that Joe wears proudly. The status of this moniker has been challenged over the past several years with Joe's growing popularity, but Beth Hart falls in that camp for sure. This album is excellent and really deserves all the praise it has been given- it demonstrates the versatility and quality of both these artists. Kevin Shirley was right to put the two of them together.
). Good job!!!
Lovin Beth & Joe again!. Anything they do is gold! Love them both. Two of the most talented artists of any time. Can not stop listening! Just that good :)
When Will Beth Get Recognition?. This woman has paid her dues! She has some pipes! I'm just glad Joe recognizes her talent and passion. Her version of "I'd rather go blind" on their first collaborative album is, in my opinion the best version of that great song! Oh, . . . and Joe is pretty good too.
Beth/Bona Big Band...not for me.. I was hoping this second outing from this talented duo would be a step closer to my preferred music style...blues-rock...but alas, it's even further from that, so I'm passing on it. If you like an album full of big, blaring brass sections drowning out the guitar aside from some phoned-in solos by Joe B., then this album is for you. If you love power guitar-driven songs with Joe tearing it up, stick to Joe's solo CD's and avoid this crap! Beth is a great singer, and this material proves it, but the style of music is just way off base for me. The only song that was music to my ears (pun intended) was Can't Let You Go...great slide guitar from Joe on that one. I'll just stick to Joe's solo stuff, thank you...
HOLY CANNOLI MY SPEAKERS ARE ON FIRE!. Beth and Joe have done it again. This effervescent follow up album to the exquisite Don't Explain is again stellar, yet more upbeat, high energy, soulful and rockin. No sophomore slump here. Beth & Joe have hit their stride and perhaps are even more in tune with working together on the second go around. A classy choice of songs have been selected, previously recorded by Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Billie Holiday, Donnie Hathaway, Lucinda Williams, Buddy Miles, Tina Turner, Slackwax, Melody Gardot, and Nina Simone. From big band sounds, to sultry ballads, to balls out growl and howl, to French inspired with Arlan Schierbaum on accordion. Somehow the diversity of the songs are tied together to make a cohesive whole. Anton Fig gives a powerhouse performance on drums with the rest of the excellent band Blondie Chaplin and Carmine Rojas rounding everything out. Vintage songs and in a sense vintage recording as well. Producer Kevin Shirley's method of recording live in the studio with the entire band playing together is the antithesis of so much of today's manipulated and computerized music. This band is interacting with each other and having FUN - and you can hear it in the music! Later in the process the horns by Lee Thornburg and Ron Dziubla are added as well as the strings by Jeff Bova which just takes everything to yet another level. Beth Hart not only has an effing astounding voice, but the ability to truly connect with the material and make it her own, then communicate the emotion behind it. Joe Bonamassa augments the songs and compliments Beth's vocals perfectly with tasteful guitar work that is restrained in places and in some places he really lets loose. He shines on the solo at the end of I Love You More than You'll Ever Know with bluesy, soulful work. Stunning record. Brilliantly done. One of the best albums of the year. A big sassy b**** of an album!
its good. again Joe keeps changing things up; Beth keeps belting out the notes and Joe keeps on doing what he does best...being versitile and one hell of a musician. Keep recording and i'll keep listening.
What. Not my cup of tea
Open your ears/mind. I think this album eclipses "Don't Explain". If these two musicians were to lay out the exact format of the first album they would not be takng risks. If you saw the "webisodes" on Joe and Beth's site following the making of this album you might have a better understanding of why they made this. If you were to say you just want to hear Joe, and I am a huge bona-holic, then the argument could be made with him also. Joe started as a bluesman but on his last 3 albums has become a rocker who happens to play blues. So I say give it a break, really listen to it. I hope this collaboration continues for a long time to come. It's refreshing to hear two talented musicians really make tremendous music.
