Superb. Just saw this on Broadway. Perhaps better renditions of the songs exist elsewhere but I don't care because THIS album allows me to revisit a WONDERFUL experience that this cast provided for me with their musical talents, timing, and unabashed joy! I LOVED THIS SHOW.

Blech.. I do not like this musical. It's too drab. I mean the main characters are named "Guy" and "Girl". It's not that hard to think of a name!!! That's weak.

Talented Cast. The music has so many levels of meaning to it! The cast is phenomenal to act, play all the instruments and dance! Props to all of them! Love the music!

Loved the movie…loved the show.... This recording captures the subtleties of the show. This recording and the show are different than the movie. Both are exceptional and worth discovering. Anyone who has heard negatives about the Broadway show should go see and make up their own mind. This recording is well worth purchasing.

Great Show!. I recently saw this show on Broadway, and it was so... amazing. I don't really have words for how I felt. Anyways, beautiful soundtrack and an even more beautiful show.

Fantastic music. These versions are amazing, but I prefer the film’s to them. However, I also prefer the London cast (currently with Ronan Keating) to the film. Unfortunately there isn’t a London cast album, so if you want the experience of the show itself, you’re limited to the Broadway version. Either way, the music is still amazing and the voices are astounding, if not as completely raw as the original film’s.

Question. Is all of this unoriginal music? Because falling slowly is a song by the civil wars..

Great show!. I wasn't familiar with the show's story nor the movie; but somehow was compelled to see this show from its commercials when it first came out. LOVED IT! Great music - great ode to a people and culture that gives voice to wonderful stories. SEE THE SHOW - BUY THE MUSIC! Other cool thing - at the beginning of the show and during intermission you can go on stage to buy drinks - since the setting is largely an Irish pub.

Once. This was the best broadway show I have ever seen! It had a great cast and great music!

Wonderful Show, Great Recording. There is a reason this show won Best Musical, and almost a year later is still selling out theaters on cold winter weeknights (almost unheard of). I've seen the movie, and while I enjoyed it, I didn't love it. The show adds a lot more comedy to Girl and is generally just more passionate. This cast recording captures the show as best a recording can. Go see the show, buy the CR.

Love it. Even though I've never had the chance to catch this show on broadway, listening to the music just gives me goosebumps :}. I absolutely love it and hope to see it live some day.

Love THIS album. To whoever keeps slamming this album to get people to buy the original: we get it you want ppl to buy the original. We aren't reviewing that one. I saw the original broadway cast in NY, just saw the tour cast and was reminded how much I love this musical. I've had the cast album for a few years now. Simply out it's a great show, and if you've seen it then you'll appreciate the album. The music means something to you. And to whoever keeps writing the same albeit edited 1-star review you're not that clever.

AMAZING. I saw this play on broadway and I was blown away! The music, set, and actors make the whole play fantastic! The music is just so emotional and filled with so much feeling and depth. I got chills during each song! A must buy for everyone!!!

Best Musical. Beautiful Cast Album. This stands on its own.. Let me start by saying the folks who have compared this Cast Album to the original film soundtrack (and complained) are completely missing the point. The film is a wonderful film. And the original soundtrack a wonderful soundtrack. I own and enjoy it. The musical took this work of art in one medium and reinterpreted it in another form -- the live, musical stage. And they have done it beautifully. I have seen this show on Broadway, and it is a transcendent experience (from the pre-show live jam by the supporting cast to the final curtain). It is faithful to the film, yet as a theater piece rewarding in new and different ways from the film. The musicianship and camaradie of the cast on stage is palpable. The subtle yet emotionally stirring choreography enriches the muscial experience in a way that can only happen in a theater. This show truly honors the source material and fleshes out the back stories of the principals -- it doesn't compete with or attempt to replace the source material. And the lead performances by Steve Kazee and Cristin Milioti are gorgeous (and yes different, from those of Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova. That this music and this story are being interpreted in new mediums and new forms is a testatement to the power of the original story and these songs (and the artistry and execution of an admittedly very simple story and experience is quite magical). Do yourself a favor and experience the both. I for one cannot wait to see this show again live on stage, and bring more of my family and friends to experience the magic that can only be conveyed in this medium.

Outstanding!!!. I saw this play and was blown away buy it! I am only 13 and I was in tears. I would LOVE to see this play again. The cast was great, the songs were beautiful, and the instruments were amazing! I bought this whole album as soon as I walked out of the play and I never regret buying it.

Absolutely Amazing!. Saw this show on Broadway. It was incredible! It was funny, sad, romantic, and captivating! The music vocalists are great, the music is moving and the acting was superb! I can't wait to own this soundtrack so I can listen to it time and time again!!

Great. Saw both the movie and the broadway show and this is one instance where the broadway show was actually better. The cast is simply amazing - musically and as actors. I'm not a big fan of musicals but this one brought me to tears and was worth seeing twice. The songs on this album sound nearly identical live on stage. Great songs, good story, outstanding cast. Get the album AND see the show.

Loved this!. I saw this last night on Broadway, though not with the original cast. I loved the two people who played Guy and Girl and was disappointed there wasn't a version with the cast I saw. I still love this soundtrack as much as I did the show last night!!

Compare to the Movie. LOL. Are we comparing music or the play vs. the movie?? How many times have you heard 'The book version was better."? Similar to Theater vs. Movies.... Same with Music. If you compare one to the other, of course there will be differences. Review this album on its own merits (even if you review it as the pseudo-critic). I love this album. Adding an ensemble to a song gives it different nuances. Sure, some songs on the original soundtrack are better, but I like some of the songs from the theater version better. My advice: Watch the movie AND play, then buy both soundtracks, and enjoy the difference the both have to offer!

Better than the original? Must be kidding. The original movie is a gem of moviemaking. It is a small masterpiece. This version is good only because the material it borrows is so spectacular. It is very Americanized and this is probably why some people like it more. The original has raw power this one has more gloss.

Don't listen to the naysayers. This album is simply amazing. While it is a new take on already-publsihed songs, the music is great. Many of the 1-2 star reviews of this album state, "I haven't seen the Broadway show, but…" Well, this is a broadway album, and it will be different than the movie soundtrack. Furthermore, the producers of the show will tell you they were not trying to emulate the movie completely. This soundtrack needs to be assessed on its own merits. At that, you have to enjoy it. As someone who has seen the show, I must also recommend to all fans of Once, please see this musical. It really is amazing, and it will only serve to increase your appreciation for the film and the musical and their soundtracks.

Just saw the play last night.... Anything Kazee sings on this album is wonderful. Overall I enjoyed the play...especially the incredible musicianship of the ensemble cast. David Patrick Kelly as "Da" played the mandolin and sang an amazingly beautiful song (that is not on this album unfortunately) at the beginning of the performance. Elizabeth A. Davis as "Reza" also stood out on violin, possessing a beautiful voice. I thought Steve Kazee did a fantastic job with both acting and performing, I am not at all surprised he won a Tony for Best Actor in a Musical. That said, I couldn't stand Cristin Milioti. I had read that she purposely didn't see the film beforehand, and it certainly shows. Not only was she overly theatrical but she managed to turn "girl" into an annoying, overly confident character which is the antithesis of the charm of Marketa Irglova's shy and endearing "girl" . The guy/girl chemistry in the movie is palpable. Last night, I was baffled as to why "guy" would fall in love with "girl" for any other reason than she can play piano and sing. Milioti's oversinging on "If You Want Me" and "The Hill" were/is overt. Her voice has none of the charm of Irglova's and she could take a lesson from Kazee in subtlety. Next time she stars in an adaptation, she would do well to do the homework and not be so arrogant to think that putting her own spin on a character without input from the originally intended interpretation, is going to fly with lovers of the original work. Buy "guy" and ensemble pieces, and go out and get the movie soundtrack and any Swell Season tracks if you want to see where the magic that inspired the play came from.

Amazing. I already had songs from this album which made me want to see the Broadway show. Now I have seen this on Broadway and the musical performances were beyond amazing just as good as anything recorded! Well worth the trip!

Lost the magic.. I personally feel they have made something that is special into some kind of a circus. Listen to the original.

Cannot be put into words. I saw Once the Musical on Broadway two nights after it won the Tony for Best Musical & after only the first 10 minutes, I knew it was well deserved... Not only is the music so moving, but the acting is superb. Generally speaking, with musicals, the acting is sub par. Here you have true talent; great musicians, actors & singers with a great script and a beautiful score. I ran home to download the music right away. If you can get to the show with the current cast & get good seats, it's worth every penny. I can't wait to listen to the music over & over again.

Brilliant!!!!!!. I just saw the show and was compelled to buy the soundtrack because I can't stop thinking about it-it was the most moving, electrically charged performance I have ever seen. I will no doubt have to fly in to see it again-it was that captivating.

Horrible. The show is just plain crap. Not a good story or cast. Honestly, the show dosn't deserve the Tonys its earned. Best scenic design, you gotta be kidding me. Its just a freaking bar with stools. The songs are crap, the cast is crap. THIS WHOLE SHOW IS CRAP!!!

Ruined. I listened to this album version and it just destroys the music. The original is so much better and has so much more emotional depth to it. This is just two people singing lyrics on a page that were given to them by people who thought they would do justice to the movie. There is no depth or feeling to this album. With the original, you can hear the pain and longing and love come through brilliantly with both musicians. They put their heart and soul into the music. You can hear it in their voices and see it clearly on their faces in the movie. I hate when they try to make something so pure and true into a horrid adaptation. Why can't they leave well enought alone?

major disappointment. Bought this album on the basis of all the Tonys it won. Perhaps listening to the soundtrack without seeing the play doesn't do it justice but the soundtrack to me was just one whiny song after another. Sorry I bought it. I will only listen to it "ONCE".

Brilliant Musical Soundtrack. OK, to all those who love the movie, that's ok, they wrote the music, and (obviously) perform it in a most amazing way. Traditionally there has been an issue transferring Broadway to film, so here the reverse situation presents itself. However there is no problem. From the moment you step into the theater you are faced with a live theater experience unlike I have ever seen. Intimate. Another review said they were blown away by the show, I concur. Brilliantly staged, but not overstated. But the use of Musicians as the characters worked so well; I was mesmerized. The Musical soundtrack may fall a little flat ( compared to the Movie) but trust me, it did not fall flat on stage. A lot is often lost in translation, so those of you who may doubt will just have to travel to Broadway and see amazing music performed live! I have seen a lot of Theater, I have rarely seen an audience jump to its feet so quickly to applaud. Bravo, Glenn and Marketa must surely be proud of what Steve and Cristin are doing with their songs.

wow.. Okay, i've never seen the movie, never seen the play but heard falling slowly from various sources. When I watched the Tonys and saw them perform gold.....wow. no words. beautiful. I perfer this to the movie version, personally.

fantastic. it's really upsetting to me that so many fans of the original would come here and trash this just because it's different. i haven't seen the original movie, ms my only knowledge of how it is is from 30 second previews on iTunes, so i refuse to compare. all i'll say is that this show is magical. i saw "once" recently with arthur darvill and joanna christie as guy and girl and i was completely blown away. their chemistry was fantastic, the acting was beautiful and subtle, and the vocals were superb. every song had me spellbound, and it easily took the place as my new favorite show. this album, though not with the guy and girl and some ensemble members i saw, is still good. anyone who says otherwise is wrong.

An excellent purchase!. I was previewing the songs and just decided that this was something I needed in my library. After I bought it and really began to listen to the songs, I was hooked! And after hearing, "say it to me now" I was blown away. The emotion put into that song was just remarkable. A few songs are just silly and fun but for the most part, these songs are so beautiful and if you play them for someone else to hear they don't sound like they are in a broadway musical. It can appeal to all listeners and that's what I love!
