The closest thing to seeing them live. I feel like Act Your Age is the closest thing to seeing the band live. This is a great record and I never skip a track when I play it in my car. When everything on the radio is starting to sound all the same, Act Your Age is a break from the mundane and adds a splash of energy with it's uplifting and upbeat rhythms.

Luv It!. Big Phat Band is my favorite musical group ever, I'm 12 years old mind you! It's funny because my dad and I use their first names as if were best friends. ex. Sal, Gordy, and Wayne come up alot at the dinner table! Definitely the best album from this stellar band. If I were you I would press the buy the buy album button faster than you can say, This ROX!

This is why I love this band. Great Jazz, this is one of those bands that just inspire us young musicians :)

YES!!!. If you thought The Phat Pack was good, just wait til you hear this one. The band is, as usual, bery, very clean and tight, and the songs are just as good if not better than any of Goodwin's other releases. Eric Merinthal wails on his sax in "Hit the Ground Running" and "Act Your Age," and we get to the whole trumpet take solos on "Backrow Politics," which is probably my favorite of all of Goodwin's songs. A great album to listen to if you're a developing jazz musician, the solos on here can give you a lot of ideas when you're playing your solos - trusting a top-notch professional can never lead you wrong. But even if you don't play jazz, this is great for listening to for pleasure.

sound quality. now the reason that i keep buying this music, is because gordin goodwins music is all recorded so well, and with a good set of headphones, nothing sounds better

Gordon Does it Again. Gordon Goodwin is bringing jazz back, this album including some of his great newer pieces. I saw backrow politics performed life, and loved it! This is a great CD, don't hesitate to buy.

Awesome!. The Big Phat Band does a great job on Act Your Age. This truly is how modern Big Bands sound. Very nice horns, very good job.

Mr.. Exceptional, (as usual) could use a little less screaming sax and guitar. Musical talent reminds me of the Buddy Rich bands.

Act Your Age. Big band jazz at its finest. A 'must have' for any serious collector of great jazz.

this band is greatttttt!!!!!!!. I cant believe how great this band is. I've been listening to them since the first album. Each one is a great buy. Gordon and the gang have done yet another amazing job with "Act Your Age." With a great sax section including Sal Lozano, Eric Marienthal, Brian Scanlon, Jeff Driskill, and Jay Mason, you can never go wrong. Bravo everyone!

A fourth installment to an incredible line-up.. "Act Your Age" is an amazing album, containing many different styles of jazz showing more and more of the band's compatibility As a college-bound jazz musician, I appreciate Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat band not because it's both innovative and near-perfect, but because this album helps Jazz stay alive in the community. I highly recommend this album.

Big phat band rocks!!!. The big phat band is amazing! They are the greatest jazz band i have ever heard! Ge the music

Amazing as Expected. I fell in love with the sounds of Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band in 7th grade when I heard my high school jazz ensemble play "Count Bubba". Four years later, I'm still enjoying the music and am even playing it. The last few albums from Gordon Goodwin have seemed to approached a "smoother" style of jazz. While this isn't the exact style of music you will find in "Swingin' for the Fences", it maintains the signature Big Phat Band sound. I enjoyed listening to the album, but now I can't wait to play it on an instrument!

Almost Perfect.. I first downloaded the bonus track "Floating Home" free off of here. I was delighted by the fusion of styles that blended so perfectly into one another without any sense of awkwardness. When I purchased the album shortly afterward, I was enthralled by its variation and simplicity of content. Nevertheless, its general feel is wonderful; the best part about this album, I believe, is that it not only can be used as entertainment music (that is, as the focus of your attention), but can also be used as ambient sounds, especially when working. Individual tracks are also excellent, such as “Señor Mouse,” featuring Chick Corea - an excellent guest appearance; "East Coast Envy" and its wandering bass line are a treat; “Yesterdays,” which was deservingly nominated for Best Arrangement, features the Art Tatum “re-performance,” which is astonishing in its own right. Goodwin’s decision to perform with this is a statement of the fact that even as revolutionary musical technologies are invented and displayed, people will never get tired of a good original album, especially when as tasteful and near-perfect a s this one.

Amazing!. This has got to be one of, if not the best jazz albums I have ever listened to! These really want to make you get up and just dance with the person closest to you!

Crazzzyyyyyy!!!!!!!. This album really shows how clean and precise this phat band can play, WAyyyyneeeeeeee bergerrronnnnnnn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! backrow politics is a true example how good the trumpet section can play. All of their solos are amazing!!!!

Gordon Gordwin's arrangements are brilliant. We bought this CD after a BPB concert on New Year's Eve. It makes the 4th in our collection. GG has assembled as skilled and talented a Big Band as has ever existed. We liken them to a genetic cross between Glenn Miller and Einstein. If you like your big band jazz hot and high energy, you won't be disappointed in this CD.

Get this album!!. Gordon Goodwin has done it again! Just when you think that an artist can’t possibly top their last album, artists like Goodwin do it again and again. His combinations of rhythmic jazz sounds penetrate your ear canal in a way that no other music has before. This album is a true work of art! Gordon Goodwin has created one more masterpiece to add to your collection of music. This album is an album no one should go without.

Amazing Album. If you loved the Big Phat Band's previous albums then you will definitley love this one. It swings hard and shows the true talent, musicality, and musicianship of the Band. The writing is great, they are truely one of a kind!

GORDON GOODWIN'S WORST ALBUM EVER. GORDON GOODWIN'S WORST ALBUM EVER

WOW!. This album is everything I hoped it to be and more! I highly recommend this to any music fan. (Not just jazz) There is no big band today or ever that will be as good as GG'SBPB. End of story!

The Title. I think this title is refering to his, a bass player, who is not as good as the nordhoff bass player.

BEST JAZZ EVER!!!!!!. Gordon Goodwin is a fantastic composer! In my jazz band we played an arrangement of Count Bubba, it was a great experience. This is one of the best jazz artists of all time. The Big Phat Band is a perfect combination of players.

A Big Band Blast of Brilliance. The album Act Your Age is not only my favorite Big Phat Band album, it may be my favorite Big Band album of all time. No point in getting individual songs, every single one is awesome. My personal favorites are: Hit the Ground Running, September, Senor Mouse, Punta del Soul, and Act Your Age.

Beast. This album's BEAST!!!!! I did watermelon man in my middle school jazz band and this is am million times better.

Very Fun. Brings back to the good old days of jazz. Very up beat that it makes you want to have a good time and dance to. I really like their interpretation of September.

Great jazz. I love this album...it's full of great jazz and big band music. Love to listen to it while getting ready to go out, while driving, or while I'm reading a good book.

Keep them coming Goodwin. I'll keep reiterating what everybody else has been saying. George Goodwin is one of the best writers and composers today. All of his compositions blend together great. The musicians nail their parts on every chart. I just hope that Goodwin keeps going and makes a lot more albums. GREAT ALBUM!!!

Alright.... I was thrilled when I found out about this release, I have followed Gordon Goodwin sinse XXL. I always loved the variety in his albums, which is my main problem with this one. They are all the same style. While I love latin jazz, a whole album of it can get a bit annoying for me. There are one or two songs that aren't, and these ones are great. I'm not saying the songs aren't good, I'm just saying I listen to it mixed in with my other jazz and rock, and then it works. I would get this album unless you don't like latin jazz.

Nice. This is a nice CD. His music is somewhat repetitive. Every CD sounds like every other CD, but this one has a slightly different sound to it. The only problem it has is some sloppy piano play. It sounds good in some places, and then fall apart in others. Still worth it.

This Phat is Good Phat. Beautiful arrangements, legend guest musicians & stellar musicianship equal another top shelf effort by Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band. Continuing the high quality standards set by previous Phat music, "Act Your Age" leads the listener through a bevy of styles guaranteed to appeal to the big band aficionado, as well as those learning to play/compose/improve.

Too Contemporary!. This is a great album! My only complaint is that this dosnt have much real big band jazz. I feel like there is a little to much contemporary.

Fabulous. Another fantastic BPB album that expands on the last three CDs. The band delves into some different styles and features great guests like Dave Grusen, Chick Corea and Patti Austin. Notable soloists: Eric Marienthal, Brian Scanlon, Andy Martin, Wayne Bergeron, Gordon Goodwin.

Yet another amazing BPB album!. You can't just buy one song on this album, or any of the BPB's albums, for that matter. If you finish with one, it leaves you wanting more. After hearing about the album coming out a couple of months prior, I've been stoked. The album doesn't disappoint in the slightest. It has just the right blend of smooth jazz and the funky things the BPB does best. And being a trumpet player, Backrow Politics is one of, if not THE, best song on the album. I look forward to the next album! Keep 'em coming!

Simply Amazing.. Having purchased every previous Big Phat Band album, I have come to expect nothing but the best. "Act Your Age" does not disappoint. Gordon Goodwin has a unique ability in being able to rearrage a classic tune, such as "Watermelon Man" or "September", and make it sound just as good, and arguably better, than the original. If you have not heard the Big Phat Band before, it is time. Another great album from a modern big band.

<3 this cd. Gordon Goodwin is amazing, and I was so excited to see that Chick Corea is on here too. It's a really fun CD.

This isn't your grandparents' music!. Gordon Goodwin doesn't act his age, and that's a good thing! Big band music isn't something I would normally listen to, but this album makes this style of music fun. "Act Your Age" is a record I would put on while sitting in the car in traffic to take my mind off of being stuck on the road with no end in sight. It would be really fun to hear the Big Phat Band play at a wedding reception, too. Overall, "Act Your Age" is just a really fun, peppy record. If you are a fan of the Big Phat Band, or just jazz music in general, Gordon recently started a podcast called the Big Phat Chat, so be sure to check that out, too!

Phat is Back!. Another fantastic release from Gordon's Goodwin's Big Phat Band. As always, the ensemble hits the ground running and doesn't look back or apologize for it. Different than the others. Still has that Big Phat Sound - terrific playing, fantastic riffs and that oh-so-clean production. If you like the other albums, Act Your Age does not disappoint; it raises the bar another level. Jam On Big Phat Band, Jam On!!!

Nothing less than perfection from Gordon and the BPB. Gordon Goodwin has been a favorite composer and performer of mine since the first time I heard him and especially after I got to see them perform live. His writing and the incredible group he has around him have wowed me with everything they have released so far and "Act Your Age" does not disappoint in the slightest. Gordon returns with his fast paced swingin groove in his originals "Hit the Ground Running" and "Act Your Age". It was also nice to see some remakes of some great charts with some other amazing jazz musicians. "Senor Mouse" with Chick Corea and Herbie Hancocks "Watermelon Man" get a great rebirth with the big phat bands sound. The band screams and wails with the trumpet hit "Backrow Politics", which feature the entire trumpet section going crazy. The cd also offers some latin with "Punta del Soul" and "El Macho Muchacho", and it also lays back with a fantastic remake of "September" and "Yesterday's". Throughout the whole cd, the band features its star soloists, with Brian Scanlon and Eric Marienthal running and ripping all over their saxes, Andy Martin on trombone, "Wailing" Wayne Bergeron on trumpet, and of course the main man in it all Gordon on piano. It just doesn't get any better than this for the Big Phat Band!

great jazz album!. gordon goodwin and the big phat band did an amazing job with this album! every song demonstrates their incredible talent! definitely worth buying if you are a jazz lover!

Oh that Tatum peace is just fun to listen to!!!. OMG - Art Tatum's 'Yesterdays' version from 1949 accompanied by the big band, wow, that's so much fun!!!
