Good album, but... iTunes seriously needs Zen Arcade.
Parts are better than the whole. "Hardly Getting Over It" stands out as a loud statement of social conscience. I bought this CD towards the end of the eighties, after I listened to Warehouse Songs and Stories, and although it never grabbed me in it's entirety, Candle Apple Grey is still an important part of the Husker Du legacy.
get zen arcade. I love the eighties...I love Minneapolis, and I love HUSKER DU!!!
It's OK. Dead Set On Destruction, Don't Want To Know If You Are Lonely and Eiffel Tower High are good rockers and Hardly Getting Over It is a fine song. That being said, alot of it just doesn't reach the peaks. Warehouse is far and away the best of their major label releases in my opinion.
Let down when viewed from Zen Arcade and inidividual efforts. This album has some quality word and song craft but just doesn't capture the energy and focus Husker Du could create. The "Zen Arcade" album IS 'The Punk Opera' and a timeless statement of youth angst and struggle way b4 Green Day was on the scene.
At last.... Not too sure what "staid post-hardcore punk" is but I do know that this is one fine album and a must have for your Husker collection. These guys were just one or two years ahead of their time, if they'd come out a little later they'd have been huge. So many great songs, so many great albums. Now let's get the SST stuff out there as well. "Now I'm a little bit older/and I'm not a hell of a lot wiser"
Great. Great album but wheres zen arcade? I already have it from frostwire (only cause i cudnt find it anywhere) but i wonder why it isnt on here...
Kick him to the curb!. I know, I know, Zen Arcade. But people, these are some of the best break up songe EVER! Whenever I'm thinking over my past mistakes, these are the songs to scream out. Husker Du is one of the best bands out there and to focus on only one of their albums is to ignore the fact that they were GODS. I'm tired of impressing the other music lovers out there, I want to love what I love and this record has plenty.
OK. I'll rate this 3 stars because it's nowhere near as good as NDR or Zen Arcade. Zen Arcade is probably the greatest punk record ever made. Why isn't it on iTunes?
Great Album but.... Get Zen Arcade on here! People need to hear it!
Where is Zen Arcade?. If I find the CD soon, then it's your loss, iTunes.
Where is Zen Arcade?. great cd, but if your gonna buy a Husker Du cd for the first time...buy Zen Arcade. I have no clue why it is not on i-tunes.
Almost as good as Flip Your Wig. The whole thing sounds reverbed beyond belief but they're still writing really good pop songs. Grant's tracks on here especially are among their best; Don't Want To Know If You Are Lonely, Sorry Somehow, and Dead Set On Destruction in particular are fantastic. Unfortunately, this is also the album where his limitations as a drummer start to get really embarassing. Most of Bob's songs on here seem like he made them up on the spot but his acoustic numbers are pretty good.
Zen Arcade. WHERE IS ZEN ARCADE?
Something is missing.... This album is OK, but not having Zen Arcade is like some sort of joke. That's like having a grocery store that doesn't sell milk. What is wrong with you, iTunes?
best. best album by them by far, very dynamic. from the sad "too far down" to the rambunctious "eiffel tower high", every song engages you. brings back many memories from the 80's.
A Fine Album.. Not Husker's best album, but certainly a good one. Pick up Zen Arcade for it will be a better introduction to the band. It's nice to see HD on iTunes but at the same time they need to include some other stuff besides their releases on Wanner Brothers.
Good album. This is not a bad a bad release from Husker Du, it really shows the influence that it had on 90's indie rock a couple years later and has a "before-it's-time" feel. But if you want to get the early hardcore feel pick up Metal Circus.
