Beach Boys is Country. After hearing this CD it's hard for me to listen to the original Beach Boys versions and not hear how Country they were to begin with. I first heard of Junior Brown through this album and I now have a few of his CDs. Wow, what a talent. His "409" is maybe the best song on this CD and worth the price just for that. My copy of this CD says it is "Part 1".... so where is Part 2?
Nice to see this late-era Beach Boys album on ITunes. This was the Beach Boys' attempt to cross-over onto the country charts. From a commercial standpoint, it didn't work because for the most part the singers use the same Brian Wilson arrangements that worked in the first place, rather than using country or bluegrass arrangements. The album didn't cause a ripple on the country charts, but there are some great versions of wonderful tunes here. Lorrie Morgan's Don't Worry Baby" and Willie Nelson's "Warmth of the Sun" are good examples. Too bad they didnt't include extras that were on the DVD -- such as Tammy Wynette's "In My Room." It's not really surf music, but it's very good boat music.
Pathetic. No new materials = post 1980s Mike Love oldies version. 😡👎 I wish Carl had the guts to build up his solo catalogue.
Love Kathy & Lorrie. The two best songs on this album are definitely "I Can Heart Music" by Kathy Troccoli and "Don't Worry Baby" by Lorrie Morgan. Download them, you won't regret it!
Clever. Beach Boys harmonies with modern instrumentation, different vocals, and a totally different feel. These songs transcend time and genres.
Totally Cool. This is a great undiscovered album by the Beach Boys. I've listened the these guys since the '60 when I was a teenager on the beach in Florida and this is one of their best. Lorrie Morgan's version of "Don't Worry Baby" is better than the original. Kathy Troccoli singing "I Can Hear Music" is suburb. Willie Nelson sings "The Warmth of the Sun" like no other. If you like the Beach Boys (and country) this album is for you!
I am Pleased to see this album o itunes as well. The recreations on this album are awsome in ways that only Mike Love & Brian Wilson could create together. But the recreations on this album are nice. Like Lorrie Morgan's "Don't Worry Baby", or Timothy B. Schmit's "Caroline No". Many examples are classics, & two are even cover songs that the beach boys recorded. Over All A Classic.
How this Came About. There wasn't any "Beachboys trying to go country" intentions here at all. Brian Wilson simply put out a cattle call and these artists grabbed dibs first because they justifiably idolize the man and his work. Scores of artists were turned away because it was First-Come-First-Serve. Wilson did use old Beachboys tracks as the foundation for the recordings.
409. Junior Brown just kills it on 409. It starts hot and smokes till the very end. His steel guitar and voice are a perfect fit and finish for this classic. With The Beach Boys "wall of sound," in the background, I've put this cut into one of my favorites.
