Forget it. In 2014 the San Francisco symphony record the full version of WSS. Alexandra Silber and Cheyenne Jackson are Maria and Tony. A wonderful version.

Pretty good update. Not crazy about Reta Morano's version of 'Somewhere', but really enjoyed the arrangments throughout. Some of the singing was really good: ('Something Coming' is Mel Torme smooth and warm). I really enjoy portions of this bright new recording of some of the best music ever produced. Thanks!

Missing whole parts of songs. I love the movie, I love the songs. However this soundtrack has several of the songs are cut off. "America" is missing a good 20 second more of the songs. "Maria" Same thing missing part of the lyrics. Also a few others, were you aren't getting the full song. I purchased the whole soundtrack very unhappy. I really loved the movie and actor who sang the songs. Just wish it was the whole song.

Movie Musical Done Right. Gorgeous dance numbers and lucious orchestration to a top notch score packed with Broadway classics. The movie gets everything and is actually better than the original movie if that is possible.

Better than the OG. I’m in my 50’s and have always been a fan of the original and not a fan of remakes but this WSS is better than the original.

The best. This is the finest recording of the greatest score ever written! Steven Spielberg's WEST SIDE STORY opens Friday December 10th! A fan since the '60's, I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Great signing, disappointing arrangments & orchestrations. Bernstein's original harmonies are lost to over-the-top musical arrangements and orchestrations. Some are hardly recognizable. If the score to WSS is your priority, stick to the soundtrack of the 1961 film.

Heart-wrenchingly Beautiful. Other than a bit too much auto tune, this soundtrack is an absolute triumph, and it is recorded beautifully and is the backbone of the best movie to come out in years! To anyone unfamiliar with West Side Story’s soundtrack, drop everything you’re doing and listen to this from top to bottom! You will not regret it!!!

WOW!. It is hard to emulate a classic, much less reach its greatness, and this soundtrack did just that! Amazing arrangements and great voices make this one of thenhighlights of an otherwise lukewarm year. Rita Moreno's version of "Somewhere" fits right in with the theme of the movie. In the original, it is aduet by Tony & Maria about their relationship. In this one, Rita sings about the hope that somewhere there will be room for "them", meaning not just the couple, but the actual latino population (and minorities by extension). It is a powerful message of hope that Spielberg and company share with us. The song takes on a new meaning, yet it is still "West Side Story".

What staying power !!. Actually, I went to Rita's track, first, just to see what a 90-year-old could do with her song...I wasn't disappointed. On Bernstein's own recording he has "Somewhere" sung by Marilyn Horne, so there is certainly precedent for the solo singer. But this soundtrack doesn't really sound like a soundtrack...very tight musicianship which has something to do with the passion of Gustavo Dudamel, I'm sure. My recordings go back to the Original Broadway Cast with Carol Lawrence and Larry Kurt which was my favorite even after the 1961 soundtrack came out. Bernstein's own recording sounds perfect .... orchestrally...but haven't really liked the casting. The Tilson Thomas San Francisco Symphony version is a great contender. I need to see the movie to see how this soundtrack fits into the film...but not disappointed so far. This wonderful musical was revolutionary at the time it was written and hasn't lost its punch.

A cast that is filled with musicians! Finally!. While West Side Story (‘61) is a classic, I always had a hard time watching and listening to it, knowing that most of the people I was listening to weren’t who the album said they were. This casting fixes that as they cast people who are performers first: most have Broadway credits under their belt and a handful even have Tony awards or nominations (most of the Jets were Newsies and Bernardo and a few others were Billy Elliots!). There are mostly fresh faces that are familiar only to musical nerds like me, but every single one puts on a stunning performance. Not a touch of autotune detectable. Spielberg has put out another masterpiece!

Great update from the original. My dad had the original movie soundtrack which I played nonstop once I discovered it. I thought it would be difficult to listen to different voices but I was wrong. Spectacular!

Amazing soundtrack!. It’s so good that I play it on repeat. West Side Story (2021) and Encanto soundtracks are my two favorites. The West Side Story soundtrack will make you wanna dance and sing-along.

WONDERFUL!!. I have been so excited to finally download & listen to this album! It has been worth the wait & goes well above my expectations! I love Ansel’s voice & Rachel is superb as Maria! I can’t wait to see them come alive on the big screen! My only “qualm” that I have is Rita Moreno replacing Tony & Maria’s duet of “Somewhere”. I guess I just need to see it in the context of the movie, but just being used to the duet from the 1961 version, I feel like it needs to be Tony & Maria’s song! And I would have loved to have heard Ansel & Rachel singing it! Rita’s version could have been a bonus track or end credits song. Anyway, I highly recommend the album & I cannot wait to see this movie on the big screen next week!

Delightful. Love this soundtrack of WWS. I own 2 other soundtracks of this musical including the 1961 movie version and this one rates as one of my favorites. Particularly love the Jet songs in this. Such talented vocalist. Can’t wait to see the movie in a week. Highly recommend!
