Welcome Back My Friend!!!!!!!!!!!. Boy! It is so great to hear from you again,I just love this man's music it is undenialable!!! He still has "The Midas Touch".This album is the best just like the rest of all of his albums!

The New Michael Franks Album. I like it...a lot. It's familiar, not old. It's comfortable, not tired. It's musically great and his vocals sound as good as ever. I got into him about a hundred years ago when he launched The Art of Tea, and I followed him for years until he drifted into the synth pop sound. I think this new work is pretty damn good and I may be biased, but I think he transcends all that Fuzak stuff I don't care for in Smooth Jazz. The new tracks are a very good listen, nice to have playing in the background or cranked in the headphones...it takes me somewhere else...not sure if it's Rio, but I like it...very much.

Just Leave it to Mike to Make Another Classic Album!. Jazz lovers rejoice, Michael Franks is back with his first new album of original non-holiday songs in seven years. Leave it to Michael the smooth cat to come up with another brilliant batch of great songs, especially his odes to a few of his heroes "The Cool School" (Chet Baker & Mose Allison) and "Hearing Take Five" (Dave Brubeck & Paul Desmond), which are both not only great songs but are also quite funny. Mike is back with another great album, which leaves his legions of fans to wonder what took him so long! Let's hope Mr. Franks doesn't decide to take another 7 years off between mainstream albums. (Watching the Snow, Mike's Christmas album, was released in 2003, and is fabulous)

Thank you again, Michael.. For more than 30 years, Michael Franks' music has been the soundtrack of my life. His incredible music and lyrics have the ability to transport me to that magical place and time where palm trees sway in the breeze, love is in the air, crystal turquoise waters sparkle in the sun, and I am young and beautiful forever. There is no one else like him. He is magic.

Rendevous In Rio. The old smoothie is back and as good as ever. This Brazilian influenced confection ranks among his best in my opinion. This one is not to be missed.

Under the Sun. Don't know what planet I've been on, but I just discovered Michael Franks and I am mesmerized by his sultry, soft voice.

Mr. Franks is One-of-a-Kind.. Lovely to hear that Alto/Tenor voice dancing over Latin-Brazilian tracks. Lyrically untouchable—MF can make rappers wanna put down their mics. I still wanna design your next album cover, Michael. Peace to Megan ;-)

Another Gem from the Master............. The Jazzmaster of smooth vocals is back and he never ceases to amaze! From the jazzy lyrics to the rhythm of the songs",Rendezvous In Rio" is a must have addition to your collections any Michael Franks fan should have.Thank you Michael for making beautiful music, so the world can sing your songs.........Arnie S.

Michael. His song "The Chemistry of Love" is magical in the sense of soothing and taking me somewhere beyond everyday life. I can listen to a song one time and know if it speaks to my heart and this one did. Michael Franks has been in my world since cassettes! It's nice to have him back with just one ride into his beautiful and talented company of musicians.

At least this critic is kind.... In a world of constant and increasingly rapid change, Michael Franks remains the same. And thank your chosen deity for that! No one writes such blissfully escapist music. To the fan, this is more of what we love. To the new listener it's as good an introduction as any. I would humbly suggest trying my personal favorites first though: The Art of Tea, Blue Pacific and Sleeping Gypsy. Will our hero ever tire of getting naked with his lady under the swaying palms? I hope not.

Wonderful Album. I came for "Under the Sun" and then bought the rest of the album. My first album from Michael Franks was "Blue Pacific", an excellent album (purchased on CD). "Rendezvous in Rio" is a different album but equally as good. Enjoy!

rendoveous in Rio. MIchael Franks has has again proven that his talent is unstoppable. This album is without a doubt destined to be his finest work yet. He definately mellows and gets better with age. I have been a devoted fan since I first heard "popsicle toes" and "lady wants to know:. This album however reinvents him in such a metamorphosis that it is if his musical style is "new" fresh and uplifting without being a reincarnation it is a true rebirth of the "Smooth Scat" that his fans enjoy . I was so impressed and amazed at the range of his take on himself. This album will definately introduce him to new generation of jazz aficiandos. Good Listening at any age. If you love jazz this has" t be in your collection".Once you hear "Under the Sun and Scatsville you are back in the day AND ENJOYING HIM LIKE THE FIRST TIME . Great Album Mike. probably the best you have ever done. NO DOUBT FEEL ME!!!! THANK MIKE FOR ANOTHER JAZZ TREASURE THANKS MIKE YOU ARE MY HERO

Decent, but doesn't measure up to his heyday. This is not a bad collection of songs, and faithful fans will hear a collage of classic MF styles. “Under the Sun” feels reminiscent of Burchfield Nines, while “Songbirds” could come from any of the albums from Sleeping Gypsy up through One Bad Habit. All 10 cuts hearken back to Franks' formative, signature days of sultry sambas and half-whispered ballads over jazz 9ths and major 7ths. You'll find none of the heavier, synth pop of the '80s albums here. Even the slightly fuller, more pop arrangements of the title track and “Chemistry of Love” suggest the more moderately tempoed numbers from Passionfruit, Skin Dive and Camera Never Lies. That being said, there really isn't anything here that absolutely demands a place in the library of any but the most dedicated completist. The songs here are pleasant, and mostly easy to listen to; but there are no classics in the mix. “Scatsville” is arguably the best song, a bit clever lyrically, and fun to listen to. On the other side, “Critics are Never Kind” is rather juvenile, and something about “Cool School” feels almost explanatory, though Franks' voice sounds closest to its old self in this tune. In the rest, you can hear just a bit of the age, his unmistakable voice a tad less airy, and wearing quite a bit more reverb. After trying to stay hip and modern through so many trends – with mixed results – many will find this return to his roots a welcome relief. It’s certainly better than most of what I’ve heard from one of my early musical heroes in a long time; but I personally prefer to spin the original batch of albums with which this release seeks kinship.

...like a fine wine . Michael Franks is like a fine wine  that gets better with time. His work has moved and inspired me for over 20 years. This work is among his best, if not the best.   Michael, Antonio is smiling.

Wow!! Michael Franks is Such a Talent.. Michael is an anomaly of consistency. I would really like to know if he is like his music. This album is -- fantastic. Look, just listen to "Samba do Soho" and "The Critics Are Never Kind" and you well know that his album is a MUST have.

Smooth, sweet and sensual. He's back!. Its our lovely soft old Michael -- just like Dragonfly Summer. Smart, cleven, beautiful wtih meaning. He still understands and the arrangements are soft like a summer day. You can play this over and over, all summer long -- on Sunday Morning, gardening, picnic in the park, a nice BBQ. I can't wait to Rendevous in Rio with him. This will float you away.

Classic Michael Franks. His play on words and rhymes turned into lyrics is written in a way that no other artist can compare. I can very easily see myself placed in his world of music, wether its on a beach or in Rio. Thank you Michael

Thanks Michael!. Lots of fun, Songbirds, the last cut, is just as good as anything he's done.

Michael. Thank you David Sandling for introducing me to him 27 years ago. Miss Elliott.

Score! And Viva to Michael Franks!. Michael Franks delivers a wonderful set of jazz vocals once again in this release. His smoothest, softest voice singing slightly off key (if I know what that means and I don't so forgive me if I have misstated) is simply marvelous! Anyone who can sing "Popsicle Toes," that I had no clue the words as I listened to his beautiful delivery in the melody at first, made me laugh later at how much I was enjoying something titled; "Poscicle Toes." Though "Popsicle Toes" is not on this release Michael Franks' delivery in each song herein is nothing short of excellent just like all his other music.

Yesssss. Just in time for me and my wifes vacation in Costa Rica. This came out a day before my Birthday but I just found out 7-27 a whole month later. This will get played to death like the rest of my Franks Collection. So many songs but me and my babys song is "Lotus Blossom". Damn Michael I needed this. I always search for you but i was a month late. Doesnt matter It's downloading right now. I will miss the cool cd insert art and the lyrics and musician credits but I just have to have it now. Listening to Under the Sun right now and see he hasnt lost that trademark flavor. Dammit Mike!!! Thanks for returning.

Michael is back. It's always a small miracle if someone as talented as Michael Franks releases an new album that can truly be categorized again as a milestone in his carreer. Right from the first track you get that unmistakable feeling that's so familiar if you favor his album Indispensabie. With fellow artists Jeff Lorber, Chuck Loeb and Jimmy Haslip performing on this album it is not only the well known smooth, romantic Michael but a real "feel good" sound that is really of this time. Congrat's Michael!

Simply beautiful!!!!. How does this guy know how to touch the heartstrings of your soul so easily? He is the Universal God of Love. Get ready for a smooth ride off into the heavens with Michael. This CD will banish any blues and carry you off to a much better place.

Aaah, Michael's Back. Age has been kind to my hero, the graceful Michael Franks brings together ten performances that will rank among his best, ten performances with his signature breezy Brazilian influences, wordplay, and his cooing female backing vocalists. Michael's wistful style will pull you in, enjoy the trip!
