Trey Songz was the uncontested 2014 R&B King with the release of the classic "Trigga" album but young and upcomer Eric Bellinger is threatening the defending champion for his crown with "Cuffing Season". Like all his other previous albums/mixtapes, Eric B. started strong with a fiery intro and brought the spirit of classic R&B into it, with instrumentals having the sounds of yesterday's classic R&B hits with a modern twist to it, such as the songs "Creep" sampling TLC's hit of the same name and "Text Threads" sampling a snippet of Montell Jordan's "This Is How We Do It". Overall this is an album that should finally solidify Eric Bellinger's status (if it needed any solidifcation) up there with the Trey Songz, Chris Browns, August Alsinas, and The Weekends. Eric Bellinger was known for being a fantastic songwriter writing lyrics for Chris Brown, Justin Bieber, Usher, & Sevyn Streeter among the biggest names of Pop artists, and now it's Mr. Bellinger's time to shine with his colorful vocals as he makes every one of his joints your favorite song...

Gotta step it up. I believe in this guy and really supported his last album, but he has to get more instrumental. Modern day R&B is just a flood of people that sound the same. Miguel, Rico Love, and John Legend are doing unique stuff for the genre.

All I can say about this album is that Eric Bellinger brought an upbeat jam like "Focused on You" to a serious yet catchy song like "Overrated" all wrapped up into this one amazing album. R&B fans will get a refreshing reminder that real R&B still lives in this century especially having Eric Bellinger in the game. You won't be disappointed with what he has to offer.
