Coldplay - Ghost Stories. "The idea of Ghost Stories, for me, was "how do you let the things that happen to you in the past – your ghosts – how do you let them affect your present and your future?" Because there was a time when I was feeling like they were going to drag me down and ruin my life, and the lives of those around me. I was very lucky to meet a very good sufi teacher who started to introduce the idea of "if you sit with your experiences and the things you've been through, they alchemize." At the time he said that, I didn't really know what that meant, but I trusted that it would work, and the more that I was learning about that, the more music just started flowing through." -Chris Martin Ghost Stories is... a different Coldplay album, to the say the very least. Fans of Coldplay are used to the big booming noises, not too rarely a sick guitar riff like in 'Fix You' or 'Violet Hill", but Coldplay have always had soft songs. Coldplay brings their soft songs out in Ghost Stories, with A Sky Full Of Stars being what I would call the remains of Mylo Xyloto and the Coldplay that fans may be more familiar. This is definitely not a band you'd play at a club, as everyone would get super bored and probably go to sleep. But Ghost Stories is an experience best served in a listening session. Whether it's alone or with someone, you'll certainly get more out of it. Coldplay are always ambitious to try new things, and some fans may leave and others may come in. Now onto the songs of the album. The album starts with 'Always In My Head', which is pretty slow and settles you in for what's to come. 'Magic' the first single from this album, is in the number 2 slot, and is enjoyable with a steady lay out. 'Ink' is a small little song, but it's very colourful and grabs your attention with the acoustic guitar and beat that sounds different but cool. 'True Love' which is the third single from Ghost Stories, is a moderate speed song, after your second listen, you realise how depressing the song is and the guitar plucking at the end is satisfying. 'Midnight' which was one of the first songs revealed from the album, isn't your typical Coldplay song. Chris and co are autotuned to robotic sounding levels, and may seem boring to some, but the synthy bit at the end is good to the ears, especially live where it's made to look like Chris is playing a harp. 'Another's Arms' sort of returns to the style of Always In My Head, but just about a different topic. The song is enjoyable but might not be remebered so highly like some of the other songs. 'Oceans' is a very simple piece, with a guitar and a beat, if you can call it that, that sounds almost like bells. Electronic bells. Violins come in at later stages to make a satisfying piece, but there is a minute of build up at the end of Oceans into the next song which is annoying if you're sitting down and listening to it. 'A Sky Full Of Stars' which is the second single from this album, is probably the most familiar piece and least familiar piece on this album. As it returns to sort of Mylo style, with an EDM influence from Avicii, it seems out of place on the album. Nonetheless, the song isn't too bad, I just feel like it fit the theme of the album. 'O/Fly On' is by far the simplest piece on the album, even compared to Oceans. It consists of a piano and a few bird sounds. Despite the simpleness of the piece, it is beautiful. There's something about the way Chris sings this piece, like it feels personal with the audience. Just to clarify, the first part of the song is called 'Fly On' and after the two minutes of silence in the middle (which is a bit long for it if you ask me), O starts playing. It would've been just as easy to make two tracks but that's just me. Overall, Ghost Stories is a great album; Coldplay went for something different and you have to be a fan of all of Coldplay's work to enjoy this album at it's finest. Selling nearly 3 million copies of the album already is a pretty big thing in this day and age. Coldplay are always never afraid to try new things, and you have to admire them for it. If you're a Coldplay fan, check the album out, but if you're going to buy a one-off album from Coldplay, I would recommend another album because not all of Coldplay's work is like this. Well done guys; great album! 4/5

Ok..... I enjoyed most of the songs but they all sounded too similar
