Ambient. Very ambient and electronic soundtrack. The tracks can vary from creating nice warm thin blankets of sounds or harsh and abrasive screeching. Regardless, I’ve never seen the movie, but I stumble upon this when I was in my late teens and it changed my perspective on what music can be, as I’d been endlessly listen to the radio searching for music that I really enjoyed at that time. Even though it’s not the best album by a long shot, it definitely played a key role in my life showing me that music isn’t just limited to quarter notes, scales, lyrics, or any traditional means of composing music.

Truly Amazing. This soundtrack is the greatest soundtrack I have ever heard, along with that, it is the greatest movie I have ever seen. Deserves more than just five stars.

Redefines the Soundtrack. Nowadays soundtracks tend to be massive orchestral arrangements that get louder and louder as a movie progresses. Many people mistake volume for emotion. So needless to say, I was very pleased when this soundtrack won the Oscar. The composers didn't rely on anything but a few instruments but managed to capture the essence of the film. Rather than blasting our ears out with a strings section, they used careful beats and some well placed piano to really rethink how an Oscar contender sounds. Well done!
