Back In The Day. Remember when John Mayer used to be good?

Not Impressed. I loved Contiuum and Try!, so I figured I'd try another album featuring the members of the John Mayer Trio. This album completely wastes the musical talents of Pino and Steve. In my opinion, that's probably John's fault, either intentionally (which was a poor choice musically) or unintentionally (which indicates that he's a bad songwriter). There is nothing even remotely complex about this album. Mayer was lauded as a fantastic guitarist after Try! Where is that talent on this album? I understand that this is Mayer solo album and not a JMT album, and thus is more subdued, but REALLY? This is the kind of music that puts me to sleep. Yes, there are a few good musical moments, and good lyrics from time to time; I am not doubting Mayer as a lyricist. I do have some serious doubts about his ability to write exciting, new, fresh, and innovative music, becuase there is none of that on this album, despite the fact that he employed two of the best session musicians alive. Get "Heartbreak Warfare" and "Assassins" and move on to better things. I'm glad I borrowed this album from my sister and didn't actually purchase it.
