Masterpiece of 90’s Alternative/Prog Metal. 10/10 Album. Wish I could experience hearing it for the first time again.

GOAT Status. When this album was released, in the 90’s, it took me at least 5 listens to understand what my band mates were on about; there was simply too much information to digest immediately. Ænima rewards investigation and understanding of what is happening musically, and lyrically, like very few albums that have ever been recorded. A slow burner, in retrospect Ænima was the perfect introduction to polyrhythms and uncommon time signatures, as most of the tunes are based in 4/4 and rooted by visceral, tribal, chest-thumping grooves. The sum of the humor, wit, protest, and confirmation of sentiments regarding the LA experience (except for the Baked Potato!) is one of the greatest albums that has ever been recorded, and one that continually rewards upon each new listen. If it doesn’t hit you right away, or if the content seems mindlessly disparaging, give it time and look closer and you might find one of the more thoughtful and uplifting albums to emerge from the three ring circus sideshow.

Takes me back. This album ruled my high school years. It's still great. Better than almost anything new in that last two decades plus. Get this album, and then get the rest of them too. I'm getting the entire collection even though I already have all the albums on cd.

Mastering of a Masterpiece. This digital master gives an awesome new perspective on this genius album which absolutely riveted me and preserved my sanity throughout my 20s. I’m rapt to be being purged by it again in this enhanced form 20 years later.

IT’S TOOL FOR GOD SAKES. ‘Hooker With A Penis’ is easily in the top 5 greatest songs ever. The rest is pretty good, I hear that Stinkfist is ok too, but ‘Cesaro Summability’ is far superior. Tool’s best album in my own humble opinion.
