This makes me sads. Becase i miss him 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺 RIP LIKIN PARK.
Updated review…. [Original Review…] I own all the other LP albums. I went along for the ride through all their experimentation. I just listened to the samples in anticipation of just buying and downloading the album, but ICK! It sounds like all the other over-produced, autotuned pop dreck out there. Phoning it in are we, boys? I loved "Hunting Party" and "A Thousand Suns", but man these songs sound so meh. I think I'm gonna just wait for the next album in the hope they do a 180 and go back to some harder stuff and not more of this beta lameness. [A while later…] I changed it from a 1 to a 4. It’s not the best LP, but I have a better sense of it now. I could always tell Chester’s influence in LP songs because Mike and Chester just influence the words and music differently, but it’s pretty blatant here. The tracks with his fingerprints play like a trail of suicide notes that nobody understood in time. Every time I hear “Nobody Can Save Me”, “Heavy”, and “One More Light”, it chokes me up. “Battle Symphony” sounds like he’s trying to keep himself together and failing. So I don’t dislike this album like I did before, and I listen to it more now. I left up my original review because that’s what I thought at first. It took listening to the words, and the context of Chester’s death, to turn it from mere pop music to a message. I just hope Chester is finally at peace. BTW, if you’re a musician and think writing a song as a suicide note is a good cry for help, no, no it’s not. Put down the sheet music, guitar, and edgyboi makeup, and call your local hotline for help. You, and the people you love, will be better off if you do.
Two Charitable Stars for Two Actual LP Songs. Hybrid Theory and Meteora dropped when I was in high school and Linkin Park has been near and dear to my heart ever since, so I bought this album without previewing any tracks or reading any reviews because their past albums have always been solid regardless of sound variations. Serves me right! If they wanted to drastically change their sound like this, they should have pulled a Tool and released it under a pen name like A Perfect Circle (but APC is actually good). There's a grand total of TWO songs on this album that sound anything at all like LP; everything else is forgettable cookie cutter generic pop garbage. If I want to listen to generic pop I'll listen to generic pop. When I listen to LP I expect LP or at least something *resembling* LP, and that is unfortunately completely missing from this disappointment of an album. How horrible that this was Chester's last work.
Great Album. Great album, band, and music.
One More Light. Can we please talk about how LP consistently predicted music trends - metal, rap, alternative, pop, even EDM - and If their albums had come out even a month before the other big artists of the time, that LP, not these other artists, would be the top dog in music? Yes, not everything is my favorite - but everything is still so raw and new and experimental and exciting. And OH MY GOSH - “One More Light” messed me up. An absolutely gorgeous track. The best song on the album, in my humble opinion. RIP Chester Bennington.
