Mark Knopfler is an underrated ROCK GOD. This is the BEST OF THE BEST! I recomend it 100%.

One of my favs!. This is one of my favorite albums. Its hard to find an album like this any more where every song is awsome.

Simply the BEST!!. A great collection of Dire Straits-Mark Knopfler!! I own all of his albums and I still couldn't not buy it. It's trully a collection of the best songs of both Dire Starits and Mark Knopfler. All of the songs are great and it's a great buy for people who want to get to know the works of one of the best guitarists and to all of those who like Mr. Knopfler as much as I do! Sultans of Swing, Money for Nothing, What it is, Tunnel of Life, Why Aye Man are just few songs that comprise this trully amazing collection. Dire Straits rock!!

......with the earring and the makeup. I'm from the bay area and I still think it's funny that Money For Nothin' gets played on the radio, and no gay people complain about it. I guess no one really listens to the song because they're to buisy thinking about the video from MTV.

Missing too many Dire Straits songs. Never was able to follow Mark during his solo career when I got older. I find the songs from his solo career displacing what I think were classic Dire Straits songs. Thus, I can't rate this compilation of songs on this album/CD/MP3 as high as others. I think it is better to pick up the Dire Straits CDs individually.

Beautiful Music From An Excellent Band. To be honest, I didn't know much about Dire Straits (and Mark Knopfler) outside of what I had heard on the radio, namely Sultans of Swing and Money For Nothings. But, those two songs were so good, that it warranted me to get a deeper look at this band, which I did by purchasing this album. This is probably all I'll get in the way of this band (as I have many other bands to look into). This absolutely satisfied me, as I got the full versions of the two songs I mentioned before plus a smattering of the best of the band and its creative leader, Mr. M. Knopfler. The music didn't blow me away, but I don't really think it is intended that way. This band is amazingly professional and the emotions you can feel on every song are incredible. Pick this up (unless you are a fan, as you probably already have these songs, and the album costs you a pretty penny in stores).

Great album, but. I only want 3 songs and Telegraph Road is one of them, I'm starting to get mad at iTunes they never allow you to purchus a song over 10 minutes by it self it seems. 2112 by Rush(23:00) only album I'd Do Anything For Love(original)by Meatloaf(12:00) only album I've seen other songs too, but come on iTunes I'll pay 1.99 for a song over 10 min. I don't want the whole albums just a few songs

The Greatest Guitarist Ever?. Knopfler, IMHO Is the greatest guitarist ever! The way he plucks & sings the instrument is a joy to listen to. His solo's are never overly done and always leave you wanting more. The fade out on Brothers in Arms is a wonderful example of his virtuosity and skill. If you ever have the opportunity to see him live, Dont Miss!

Memories. Back when "Brothers In Arms" came out I was in a bad place. This song and a lot others by Dire Straits brought be back. "Money For Nothing" and "Tunnel of Love" are also amoungst my favorites. This "The Best of" is truely "The Best of"

Absolutely amazing. This album is some of the best music you will listen to for a good long while. Do yourself a huge favor and buy it. At such a great price, it's almost criminal to pass this one up.

Absolutely Wonderful. This band was introduced to me only a short while ago and I immediately began sifting through the numerous albums available by them on iTunes. After spending a good deal of time reading reviews of various songs and albums, I decided that this album was what I wanted, and I counld not regret that decision less. Since listening to this, and much of their other work, I can, with much assurity, say that this the best album available of their music on the iTunes store, considering the quality of the music, the choices of what music to include, and the price of the album. To anyone just begining to immerse themselves in this band, or anyone that just wants to add to their collection, this is an album you need to have. Every song on the album is a masterpiece. It encompasses a wide range, from the upbeat and raucus "Money for Nothing" to the handful of more mellow songs, such as "On Every Street" and "Skateaway". The melodies and lyrics are so easy to listen to.

God yes.. Walk of Life, Money for Nothing, and Sultans of Swing. Three of my favorite Dire Straits songs? I would seriously pay album price for those three songs... but to get the best of Dire Straits and (mostly) Mark Knopfler, just made my day.

Good Stuff, But.... Private Investigations is a good anthology of Dire Straits's work (Much better than the partial album of the Sultans of Swings set that iTunes has put out). It has all of the great stuff like "Tunnel of Love", "Brothers In Arms", and they've even got the full, eight-and-a-half-minute version of "Money for Nothing" (Sultans of Swing only had the shortened version). However, it seems to be missing a few essentials. Why isn't "Twisting by the Pool" on here? It also isn't in chronological order. Plus, annoyingly enough, they've slapped on about eight or ten solo compositions from the guitarist Mark Knopfler, as well as a duet with Emmylou Harris on "All the Roadrunning". (I guess that's why it's called "Private Investigations: The Best of Dire Straits & Mark Knopfler" See, unless you're a rabid Dire Straits/Mark Knopfler fan, this greatest hits set isn't for you. Private Investigations has some good stuff, but you're best of with Sultans of Swing: The Very Best of Dire Straits. Unfortunately, that's only available on iTunes in its partial album format, so go out to a CD store and get the complete version of Sultans of Swing. Recommended Tracks: "Sultans of Swing" "Tunnel of Love" "Money for Nothing" "Brothers In Arms"

Why leave off Telegraph Road????. Come on dudes! At least allow us to purchase Telegraph Road from this cd for $1.99. It's the best song they did! Besides, I have all the other tunes!

Private Investigation - It's ALL I Want!!. What an album. I have bee a fan for over 30 years. This Album has it all, including Telegraph Road. This is the band that defined Blues\Rock...It's all here the classics, and Mark Knopfler's instrumentals are incredible. If you are a DS fan this is the only album to have if you don't have any. It's complete, it's RIGHTEOUS!!

This Guys are good. These guys really play well, i do think that itunes should get all of the movies that Dire Straits made.

One of the Best On iTunes. The sound quality & volume level of this LP are OUTSTANDING. This is as close to 'perfect' analog that I've found on iTunes. For all of the tons of poor quality on iTunes, THIS is one of the rare oasis(es) in the desert. Every selection on iTunes should be brought up to this high standard of audio mastering. One wish would be the inclusion of the live version of 'Portobello Belle'.

Freaken awesome. Words can't describe... Sultans of Swing, probably one of the greatest guitar solos of all time... Wait! a rock band that can actually PLAY?!? Unheard of.. todays musicians should take note.

Mark Knopfler Rocks!. This is an amazing CD. Telegraph Road is so beautiful I could listen to it all day. All of Mark Knopfler's guitar solos are outstanding.

Near Perfect. This is the almost ultimate collection of one of the best rock bands ever ... only suggestion for improvement would be to substitute the studio version of "Sultans of Swing" with the live version from "Alchemy" (the guitar solo on the live version is just the best there is!) - then it would have been perfect!

Not The Best of.... without Down To The Waterline, this could hardly be called "the best of" Dire Straits. There's a lot of the best left off of here. Do yourself a favor, and burn your CDs and make a Playlist, because Apple doesn't have Dire Straits' back catalog. Music is universal. It wasn't meant to be a corporate tug of war.

Excellent !!. Only thing I would like to see on this is a couple songs from Dire Straits and Communique!

The Works!. I love every single song on this album, except emmylou harris' voice... besides that I don't see how "What it is" isn't like one of his top songs, because it's so amazingly perfect to listen to at any time. DS IS DA BEST!

Private Investigation. This wonderful melody warms your heart and speaks to anyones love at some point. A far stretch from the pop hit "money for nothin".

Top Ten Records of all Time. This has to be one of the top ten albums of all time. Can’t get better songs than these! Mark is a genius! Not a bad song to be had!

The Best of All Time isn't it ?!. One of my fav. album so far.

Classic Knopfler, with and without Dire Straits. This compilation stands out as a great overview of Mark Knopfler's work...it includes his Dire Straits work, as well as his solo efforts, and highlights his skills as both a brilliant guitarist with a signature style, as well as a storyteller and balladeer. That all the tracks are "album versions", and not edited airplay versions (like so many compilations offer), makes this album an absolute pleasure to listen to.

Wherever I go is hosed. I tried a few times and the track has problems. Boy it's been out there since 2005 FIX IT please and get back to me.

Private Investigations Digs deep and broad. Do you remember the first time you listened to Love Over Gold? A song - an album - where telling the full story in words and music supersceded any commercial concerns, and drew the listener deep into complex, intertwining guitar riffs, overlaid with meaningful vocals calling quietly for change in the face of foaming commercialism. This new compilation pulls the most intimate Knopfler aside the playful MTV-nod, the polished Sultan, the gritty vocalist and driving soloist. It is a joy to listen to this compilation - a must-have for those seeking a better understanding of Knopfler's genius. He still doesn't give a damn about any trumpet-playing band...

For the best of these songs live, look for "Alchemy" on vinyl or cd. If you love Dire Straits, you owe it to yourself to hear what they were like live and Alchemy is among the best just put it in and let it play recordings ever, Like "Live at Leeds" which absolutely captured a Who show, this fantastic recording is a must have.

iTunes!!!!!. Please put the two Dire Straits eps on here, extended dance play and encores. I will buy them if you do. I want them I can't find them anywhere else. So please iTunes put them on here PLEASE.
