Beautiful and real. Superb songwriting performed with vulnerabilty and power.

BING!. A rock-solid outing for Van Etten. It's as if she has discovered what she's truly capable of. Perhaps it is I who is discovering what she has known all along. A truly talented musician More, more!

Amazing album. Transcendent, ephemeral, and evocative. This album does it all.

Magic Chords.. by Mark Hilton, Jan 2013 For me this is the stand out track and good video to compliment. Van Etten, in some quarters, is well rated and her album is in 'the best of 2012' and methinks, deservedly so. Her voice is stripped down, so it's sung from the soul, not for mainstream and greed. You can listen to Cat Power or try the up and coming Kat Frankie, based in Berlin, she is the real deal too.

Worth making a fuss about. When you listen to stuff like this you really wonder why we have to put up with the same old dross on the radio.Great voice in which there is obviously plenty of power mixed with brooding & slightly haunting songs.Yet another female artist who deserves a much much wider audience, this is just sublime. No decent music around these days.........think again!!

Sublime. Surely set to sell skip-loads of units.. to quote John Peel when he first heard the Sundays (admittedly he didn't mean that was a good thing). Love the opener - all growling and Pixies like; straight through to the meaty rock of Serpents which is a great single. Then we get to drift back into lazy pillows of van etten loveliness. You've got to love her voice. An interesting and nuanced affair & whilst I'll always love the country-folk SVE I really like her rocking it - you go girl (as the kids would say). I think you need to do a British leg of your tour SVE, or a one off gig in Brighton.

Deserves wider audience. Damn I bought 6 copies of her first album (presents for friends)and I suppose I'm singularly fascinated by SVE's voice and sense of song. This is has a harder edge to it (now that she's signed to jagjaguawar label). All pretty much a grower in that you'll be listening to this for a while. My faves - 'Leonard' / 'All I can' / 'Magic Chords' and 'I'm wrong'. I imagine best seen live in intimate surrounding. Also I recommend the accoustic versions of her songs - just guitar and voice that you can find.

Amazing. If u like bahaus this is like an acoustic down tone of siouxsie and the banshees mixed in with a bit of the pierces if u like these bands buy this album .if u like this album and haven't heard of the bands listen to them also brilliant album it's that good iv never given a review on an album end of
