Album of the Year.. This album is the perfect follow up to the first LP. While the first one was solid, this one feels far more ambitious and creative and shows that they're not gunna sit back and churn out tracks that all sound the same. They are now one of my favorite bands and i can't wait until the next album.

Absolutely Beautiful. Timeless music that makes you feel incredible. I can't help but smile when I listen to this. I recommend it to anyone and everyone.

Amazing and Heartfelt. This album is transcendent - the most emotionally affecting album I've ever heard. You can tell how much thought has gone into the lyrics (one of the motifs is the fictional island of Innisfree) and the songs as a whole. Can't recommend highly enough.

Fox's Tale. WOW. The Fleet Foxes really out-do themselves in this mystifying sequel. It brings back a very indigenous sound with a very rocky tone that resignates from the beginning to its end and leaves you wanting more. As before, the album is packed to the brim with haunting melodies and crisp vocals that are bound to shiver your bones to the point of shattering. The upbeat, Dylan-esc melody of Lorelai to the atmospheric vibe of the Shrine/an Argument is bound to drag you out of you seat and across the very Cascades to lands of wonderous tales and prophercies of things to come. Well, what ever is coming, let us hope it makes this album a relic for the treasure trove for another fine generation of future song writers and poets. Thank you, Fleet Foxes. Can't wait for more.;)

Good music. I love this kind of music! It has a great sound and is just fun to listen to! Fleet Foxes are great!

Buy This Album!!!!. When I look back on these years of my life and seek cultural place, this will sing in my mind! Thank you for its beauty!

Like no other music being released now days!. Helplessness Blues is greatly refreshing and the dynamic range through out the album was wonderfully mastered. This was the first album I had heard of theirs and I can tell I will be following these guys for a long time. Thank you Fleet Foxes!

Perfect blend of past and present. I am a new listener of Fleet Foxes and am an instant fan. Some of the tracks capture such a strong Crosby, Stills, and Nash vibe for me that I forget who I am listening to. This album blends 70s style folk with modern rock so flawlessly. The instrumental sections and dissonant tones are reserved yet speak so clearly. It really is a journey from start to finish.

Where did these guys come from?. It's like I am being taken back in time....to the days of past . I never write reviews, but this is so much more deserving than words can explain. In the world we live in today this is exactly what the world needs on it's radios instead of the lil waynes or katy perrys or rihannas...I just discovered these guys a little over a week ago and after listening to a few songs, i had to buy both albums....and now I can't listen to anything else. This music truly has touched my soul in an incredible way. Every time I listen to them I feel rejuvenated and refreshed from being drained by all the other trash thats out there. These guys are the real deal....the definition of true music to the ears. If you are thinking about buying this or the first album (fleet foxes) and want to experience something that is so rare these days, think no longer. You won't be disappointed. Outstanding from start to finish on both albums. Can't wait for their next!!!!!!!

Outstanding!. This band can sing the phone book & I will still love it! Great Album, gives me the chills. This album was number two in 2011, right behind Adele according to Entertainment Weekly.

Expanding the limits of psychedelic folk!. When these guys first appeared on the scene in 2008, they caused quite a stir with their unique blend of folk and psychedelic rock. People were saying they sounded like a modern CSN, and I suppose they weren't too far off there. They are a great band, writing very interesting and creative songs, and aren't afraid to push boundaries, like they do on this 2nd album. Here, they expand the sound of their debut, as the songs are generally longer, more varied and incorporate more psychedelic and progressive folk elements, even some jazz (On the space folk of "The Shrine/An Argument") and blues! (On the Peter Green Fleetwood Mac sounding "Grown Ocean") They do vocal harmonies very well and they are all great on their respective instruments, they have a great sense of musical balance. Another great band to see live, in fact they are even more solid and rock harder in a live setting! These guys are definitely one of the most awesome bands around today! And dig that album cover! They have the coolest, most distinctive album artwork around today, bar none!

Fantastic. I remember listen to Helplessness Blues with my friends and discuss its allusions to Socialism, which is actually in a good way. There was snowing outside, but we were warmed by the congenial sentiment that rises through the beauty and harmony of this song. The sweet memory of this moment keeps driving me forward, no matter how scattered my friends are across the universe. Definitely worth buying: soul purifying.

Laid-Back and Still Profound. When I first started listening to the album "Helplessness Blues," it was played on repeat in my car because I thought the style of music suited driving down tree-lined highways quite well. It was laid-back and pleasant to listen to, reminding me of sunny days and gentle breezes. However, the more I listened, the more I picked up on the lyrics...and it was the lyrics that blew me away and made me fall absolutely in love with the album. The lyrics are skillfully and poetically wrought, and every verse of every song paints a vivid image in the listener's mind. This is especially apparent in songs like "Sim Sala Bim" and "The Shrine," in which the lyrics even explicitly spell out specific scenes for us--a man's typical, mundane morning interrupted by a shifting world, and a skeptical man's attempt to mimic the faith of children by wishing on pennies in a fountain. Just as lots of good description in literature pulls the reader into the pages of the book, so the Fleet Foxes pull their listeners in by weaving colorful images in their lyrics. They are using their songs to tell us a story and make us ponder the deeper meaning. Other songs, like "Montezuma," "Helplessness Blues," and "Blue Spotted Tail" contain more philosophical lyrics, pondering the meaning of life, exploring the feeling of wasting life, and wondering what the point of worldly gain and riches is. Overall, the flow of the music and the stories woven by the lyrics make "Helplessness Blues" a very addictive listen as well as a musical masterpiece. And I'm sorry if this review has come across as artsy or cheesy...I just was really amazed by how the Fleet Foxes managed to create these poetic, profound songs while still maintaining a very laid-back, easy-listening style. It's refreshing and impressive, and I hope other people decide to take a listen.

New Music for an Old Music Fan.... Letterman caught my ear the other night. What was that sound I was hearing? Sounded familiar, but not. Sounded new, but not. It was the same but different - as David Bowie famously said. Lyrically compelling with melodic themes that grab you from the first bar, Fleet Foxes has brilliantly brought great music back to our ears.

Words cannot describe it. It crushes the definition of masterpiece. I've tried to come up with the most infinitely strong way to describe the praise I have for it and I just can't. It's beyond words and it's easily the greatest album I've ever heard. You just simply cannot afford to not hear it.

Plug in and have your spirit relieved. Love it

Fantastic band and top album!. Absolutely no words to describe this just fantastic and each song memorable!

Wow. I didn’t think I could love anything more than Crack-up but I might like this one a tad better. It’s joyous discovering their music!

Amazing band. Amazing album

Absolutely beautiful. This is my favorite album by far -- each song is distinct and mesmerizing and complex in its own way. What I loved about the debut album was the choral harmonies, and I love that they brought those back in this album. It's still the Fleet Foxes sound, only more evolved. I'm so in love with it!

The Sgt Pepper of my generation. This album took me away at the first listen. Everything about it is perfect: the title, the cover, the vocals, the lyrics, the instrumental arrangements kind of like another album(sgt pepper.)

a third masterpiece. i downloaded this album the day it came out last year. i have listened to it every day since that day. it has not in the least bit gotten old. in fact, i find myself still searching deeper & deeper through the beauty of each song's details, notations and lyrics. it is one of the greatest (if not the greatest) albums recorded in my lifetime. it is my second favorite album ever, behind 'Fleet Foxes' JOSHUA TILLMAN DO THE WORLD A FAVOR AND RETURN NOW.

Only two words can describe:. 1.) Brilliant, up-lifting, heartbreaking lyrics 2.) Incredible instrumentation 3.) Chilling, beautiful harmonies 4.) Powerful, raw emotion Fleet. Foxes.

Life Changing.... If i had listen to only one album for the rest of my life, it would be Helplessness Blues and it would would never get old. True art. Perfect from start to finish.

Amazing.... I love them....this is album of the year material. They remind me so much of Simon and Garfunkle.....there better than Simon and Garfunkle!

Amazing. This is a great album and every song on here is great, this style of music is one that really fits well and overall this is money well spent, honestly I think an important song to have here is Helplessness Blues which really makes the whole album stand out

Amazing!. I was stuck at my aunts with no iPod,no radio, and nothing but wooded hills and streams. I had a portable cd player, so this is what I listened to for two weeks, day in, day out, and I loved every minute of it! I would recommend this to anyone! And I mean ANYONE.

Moving. This album is such a moving piece of musical art it is one of my favorite albums of all time. It introduced me to alternative music where before I was a hardcore rap fan. This album is for everyone who enjoys purely heartwarming music.

Different, but still true to the Fleet Foxes.. I agree, in a way, with many of the different criticisms that have been brought up about this album. Yes, it is not truly a sequel to their first album. No, it doesn't have the lovely stand-alone singles that the EPs and the previous album had. I don't see that as a problem, though. I feel like they are experimenting with this album, stretching out in different directions and looking to see what feels right, and what hurts and stings well. Not everyone will like the end of The Shrine/An Argument, but I feel like it was brave to even go there. I like it. It is not an album of discrete singles, but an album that needs to be listened to in full, on a long car ride, on a journey, in a day or a week or a month, to be digested and understood. This album encompasses many diverse moods, but retains a sort of longing and bittersweet optimism that I think really works. I really loved this album, and I loved the first one and their EPs too. I can't wait to see where they will go next.

Oh man oh my oh me. This album sounded good to my ears

Doesn. Fleet Foxes deliver another astonishing musical accomplishment with Helplessness Blues. The first verse and chorus of the opening song "Montezuma" pretty much summed up how much I was going to enjoy this album. The slight poppy feeling of the first album is dampened in this LP, but this is replaced by another unique feeling. If you choose not to purchase the whole album (it's a mistake if you don't buy the whole thing), than I recommend buying "Helplessness Blues", "Montezuma", "Lorelai", "Someone You Admire", and/or "The Shrine/An Argument". This is one of the Best Albums of 2011 hands down, no question. It doesn't get much better than having a band like the Fleet Foxes in our time.

Holy wow.. This record is Absolutely Brilliant. I wasn't into it right away but now I understand the depth and beauty that went into it's making. When I listen to it, I rejoice and thank the good lord that I can experience such beautiful music.

Lovely. The track "Helplessness Blues" sounds beautifully close to the music of Simon & Garfunkel. Loves it.

So well done. I liked Fleet Foxes before, a lot. So I didn't think I could like their new album as much. I was wrong. It's terrific. This whole album is at least as good as their previous best tracks. My favorite track on this one is The Plains / Bitter Dancer.

Journey of Hopes. This album starts out with such an intro to a journey of a natural birth of nature. I never expected to listen to an album that reached out and pulled me into a world of dreams and desires to become the man I wanted to become. "If I had an orchard!" What a sentence... You must buy this album, start it and do nothing else til the album ends. 5 stars and more for the love of music.

Flawlessness. How could i live in Seattle and not have heard of this group? Easy if one's not up with the current music scene. But their sound reflects so much of my past, and apparently theirs. Though F.F. may be similar to Crosby, Stills & Nash, they're not the same and not a let-down. Grand music for these times.

Yes.. This album is incredible from start to finish. Every time I listen I notice something I didn't before. Like in a classic movie when you go back and re-watch and catch what you had not before noticed. This is one of the most meaningful albums, to me, that has been released in the last decade. Do yourself a favor and get this album immediately.

10/10. This album is outstanding! This is one of those albums that are perfect in every way, and there's nothing bad about it! The debut was great too, but this is so much better! Key Tracks: Helplessness Blues, Montezuma, and Lorelai

Incredible.. This is the best album I've heard in ten years. I bought it on vinyl so I could play it for my dad on his awesome sound system. His jaw about hit the floor when it started up. The man is hard to impress. Anyway, I digress.. This album finds beauty in everything. Majesty in everything. It appreciates the simple things and has a little bit of wanderlust. The harmonies weave in and out in absolutely gorgeous ways. My favorite track is the title track, "Helplessness Blues", because it holds the albums together. However, the song absolutely is dependent on the rest of the record. It's stunning. Every song is so important to the next one. I love it! So congratulations to my fellow Seattleites! Here the Fleet Foxes have created an album about as perfect as it can possibly be.

almost perfect. I love this cd the more I listen to it but I could only give 4 stars because of the chaotic noise in "the shrine". There aren't enough drugs to make that pleasing on the ears.

Beautiful Effort. Fleet Foxes Helplessness Blues is one of the most beautiful records of the year. You can tell they put their souls into this effort! It has a warm, but sometimes broken feeling to it. It is painfully beautiful. There is not a bad recording on this album. Highlights : bedouin dress, sim sala bim, helplessness blues, lorelai, montezuma..a must buy for any music lover!

Incredible. Peaceful. One of the best albums of the decade.

Album of the year. Pretty amazing, especially lyrically

5 stars is not enough. The most talented band out there today. Truly great album

Nice. Give the band allot of credit this a great record. Give Phil Ek some major props too, he is a phenomenal producer and engineer.

love the foxes. all the songs on here are great!

Amazing. Genius harmonies .Genius melodies. Love these guys!

Brilliant.. Eloquence escapes me. It's just beautiful music.

Phenomenal. This album is a must.

Grows on me. Upon first listening, it sounded pretty lame. The only song I liked was Helplessness Blues. The album sat without being listened to for several months, but after giving more songs a try the album and band is really growing on me. I'm not too fond of the strange instrumentals but the lead singer's voice is incredible. It's very smooth and soothing. I like to listen to music that is sort of off the beaten path, and if you are the same way I would definetly five this band a try! It beats mainstream music by at least 1,000 miles.

Oh. My. Goodness. The fleet foxes blew me away with this one! I will be listening to this for years to come !!! It never gets old!

Really - why?. Crap - way over rated.

Fleet Foxes, you fail to disappoint.. Ooh, I love it. I've been waiting for this album for months, and when I saw it on iTunes yesterday afternoon, I jumped at the chance to download the entire album. It was incrdible, the magical harmonies they sing brings me such joy. They are, by far, my favorite band as of yesterday.

Nothing else to say.... Speechless...It's even better then the last album!

Back in Time. One of my favourite albums of the year. This album takes one to another place, perhaps another time. Talk about setting a mood. Worth every penny.

Folk-Rock's Finest. This band of hippies never disappoints! Burn one down and enjoy :)

!!!!! :D. Fantastic album by one of this decade's most fantastic bands.

Excellent. I was directed to Fleet Foxes by Genius in the sidebar and i am now a fan. They remind me of my favourite group ever - Stackridge - with their folk rock and whimsy. Varied tracks and, thus, without a formula that becomes boring is the way I like my music. I look forward to more.

Skip "The Argument", otherwise, fantastic. "The Argument" sounds like a group of woodwind players in first grade. You'll cringe. But the rest of the album is their best effort yet, and that's saying something for this talented group. Lush harmony, unexpected (yet, in hindsight, inevitable) chord changes, and momentum shifts will entrance most listeners.

Reminds me of a place. I attach alot of sentiment from this album to a place in Ontario Canada where I go fishing,Hiking and Camping. I feel that this album is one of the beautiful and profund completations of music I have heard in a long long time.

Return of Folk-Rock. You got me all wrong if you think I rated this 5 stars because I like folk-rock- because I don't. But good music is good music, and this is some of the best music there is in the world today. Between Gaga and Tiesto, its nice to think that there are still some nice old-fashioned hippie bands. And not just any nice old-fashioned hippie band, the best old-fashioned hippie band, Fleet Foxes.

To Fleet or not to Fleet!. I believe that this band is one of those once in a century bands that create music that people can appreciate and relate to. I am disappointed in their new album as I was a big fan of their last one. Not to say I do not like the new album, but I was hoping that this band would have strived for more. But that's just my opinion! Hope they keep doing what they do best!

Great vibe for the upcoming summer season.... It didn't take me long to warm up to this new release by Fleet Foxes. The whole album is relaxed, positive and comparable to the coming of summer. Some tracks to check out regardless: Bedouin Dress, Grown Ocean, Montezuma, Battery Kinzie, Lorelai (although you might as well go ahead and hear the whole release!) Hope everyone else finds it as enjoyable as I do!

SOOO disappointed!. I have LOVED fleet foxes for forever... I bought this album when it first came out, the anticipation was killing me. I've listened to it over and over hoping it would grow on me, but it hasn't. I guess I'm the only one, but this album REALLY let me down. the songs lack the depth I have grown so accustomed to from Fleet Foxes. I wish I could ask for my money back.

Awesome. If you don't like this album you should go get your head checked... Or at least your ears. Solid album! You'll find yourself humming these tunes all day. Do yourself a favor and buy it now!

Once again.... .... a classic. This album is simply lovely. A sound that isn't heard much in contemporary music anymore yet still still original.

Ignore the 1 star reviews!!!. This album is brilliant! I'm glad I bought this when it came out last year and still remains one of my favorites, EVER. From the instrumentation to the beautiful vocals, no wonder this remains the best critically acclaimed album of 2011.

Simon and Garfunkel meet Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young. Great folk-rock mixed with some amazing harmonies. Robin can tell stories that will make you shiver with realism. I usually say that Fleet Foxes sound alot like a new CSN&Y, but a lot of this new album sounds like something Simon and Garfunkel would have crafted. Rock solid album!

Beautiful!. Robin Pecknold is a master musician. This album is more existential then their previous works, but that’s a good thing. It’s nice to witness a band grow in maturity and musicianship. I’ll forever hold this dear to my heart.

Best Folk Record in recent years. This is a monumental effort from the Fleet Foxes. There are several tracks that stand out, but this is an incredible work of art from beginning to end. Highly recommended!

Rapt. Grown Ocean is my favourite, but many other haunting tunes...a few deviations in form... but the spirit is with these guys

hopelessness blues. after listening to this for a week now i can say this is a fairly lame collection of songs. there are no strong tunes or melodies or even choruses for that matter. the production makes up for this by over doing it as usual, with the vocal harmonies particularly irritating, reminiscent of earnest christmas carollers on your front porch that just wont go away even as you close the door in there face. The lyrics appear to be about absolutely nothing at all......light weight 70's folk rock musings is about the depth of it.

I love this record!. In this Age of Autotune, it's refreshing and inspiring to hear a band that can really sing. Add invigorating harmonies, strong melodies and thoughtful lyrics, and you have Helplessness Blues. The vocal harmonies and production sound are heavily influenced by Brian Wilson, as well as evoking Simon and Garfunkel. If you're only going to buy a couple of songs, I would go for the title track as well as Lorelai. But while I find myself skipping the longer efforts, the album is well worth purchasing in its entirety; a rare recommendation these days.

Long awaited encore. Long awaited encore *two thumbs up* Particularly loving track 10 - The Shrine / An argument - it's just beautiful

The wait was worth it. I've been hanging out for this album and I love it. So many sounds, such strong melodies.

Beautiful Piece of poetry.. Not the easiest music to first listen to, but soon you get used to the beauty which lies not only in the lyrics but in the music itself. Standouts include "The Cascades", an amazing arpeggio acoustic piece, "The Shrine", and "Blue Spotted Tail." Amazing!

Happiness. Brilliant, but why has it been released early? Blue Spotted Tail is beautiful, as is Helplessness Blues.
