Love this album. My first Brandi Carlisle album!

Amazing. She is hands down amazing. She has a huge vocal range. She is backed by musicians that can really play. She is very good on the guitar and piano. Her concerts are awesome. I am obsessed.

Refreshing. Had not heard Brandi Carlile until I saw her open for Sheryl Crow. She stole the show! Bought this album that night and have not stopped playing it. Great voice and a joy to listen to. Enjoy!

Fantastic, melodic folk-rock. What can I say? Every song is worth listening to. Grey stuff!!

True love. The more I listen to this album the more I love it... Just saw Brandi live... She was even better in person... If that's possible... Because this album is incredible!!

Amazing and a must have for anyone serious on a shooting star.. If she had not opened for Sheryl Crow in Boston I would have never had the pleasure of the most incredible concert experience. She blew me away and set a higher expectation level for my concert going in the future. She clearly plays for the love of music and embraces everyone who has an open ear. No matter where you sat, she and her band made the concert personal and brought a range of lyrics which were soul provoking and tender. For all of those who came in late only to hear Sheryl Crow - your loss. Best of all, this album gives a great taste of her range and what the concert experience is like.

Love her!!!. Every album is worth it!!!! Love her!!!!

Sweetness in THE can!. SWEET!!!

Another Version. I just listened to another version of the "The Story", made me realize how great Brandi really is... about the only female vocalists I have liked in years!

Excellent!. Album!

Nice. Caroline!!!!! I was hoping the guitars on "Dreams" were going to do something a little cooler but hey, it's still a good song and they definitely picked up the slack on their other tunes. I recommend this album. I agree that the first half of the album is a little weak. But I do not think that she "sounds like everybody else". Carlile has a very unique voice. The band has a nice sound as well. I think if anything is lacking it is the guitar playing, and at times the pedestrian sounding piano parts. I am surprised Rick Rubin did such a poor job. Rubin is known for producing some great albums. Rubin seems to have flat out neglected the duties that made him such a sought after producer. Their last album "The Story" is a little dis-proportionate with the latest effort. Where "The Story" had great sequencing of song tracks, "Give up the Ghost" is poorly sequenced. Where "The Story" had beautiful arrangements, sonic bliss, and a unison between rock, folk, bluegrass, and country; "Give up the Ghost" has novice arrangements, the sound was not as sonically pleasing, and the unison between the genres has been broken to create a marriage of the styles. Now you can put a definition on the exact sound that the production was going for. Rick Rubin should be ashamed of himself. Up-coming bands would do anything to work with him. I am sure that when The group got wind that Rick Rubin was producing them, they must have been so excited, and had feelings of true success. Then Rick Rubin sloths on the console, and falls asleep at the wheel. In result the album rear-ended their previous efforts and never got the chance to pass up "The Story". On "Give up the Ghost" you can expect to find great vocals, awesome harmonizations, a nice array of instruments that are all played very well. This is a great album. If I had not heard "The Story", I would have nothing bad to say about the album at all. The Musicianship is excellent, Brandi and the twins are on spot. The erroneous element of this album is strictly production based.

Pretty up beat stuff. I liked it.

Awesome!. Picked this up after seeing her open for Ray LaMontagne. Her voice is sensational! I pretty much love all the songs on the album. Top picks for me are "Dying Day", "Dreams" and "Pride and Joy". You have to give this a listen. You won't regret it!

Oh Dear. The song was featured on "Grey's Anatomy" this week. It was fantastic!

Amazing!!!. She is absolutely awesome! Love her! This album is great !

She's Great!. Brandi can really sing! She is such a talented songwriter and singer. I hadn't listen to her music before and was pleasantly surprised at how an amazing talent she is. I will be listening to this album for a long time.

Amazing in Concert. Brandi's music is amazing, and it gets harder and harder to wait for the next album. Her true strength, though, is in concert. By far the best live singer I've ever seen. It's a shame it's so hard to capture that in the recording studio, as the albums never quite match her amazing live performances...but I treasure them anyway.

Give Up the Ghost. Enthralled with Brandi Carlisle at the Santa Barbara Bowl last evening - she was the opening act for Ray LaMontagne - Bowl was full to the brim and Brandi earned a standing ovation through most of her numbers! What a crowd pleaser and performer - love her and love her music and love her energy!!!

Daverg07. Good but something is missing....How many songs has Brandi CarliIe blessed us with in her short but brilliant career? 30? 40? maybe 50? When I listen to the entirety of her work....I clear my iPold of all artists except her and place on shuffle, and unfortunetely I am rarely moved by the songs on “Give up the Ghost”. This is a very different album than the previous two….for some reason Brandi has departed from her amazing ability to tap into the hearts and emotions of listeners with her thought provoking lyrics and heart breaking melodies….instead “Ghost” consists mostly of upbeat traveling music with acoustic strumming guitar and light hearted folk/country/pop that gave me the impression of a cross between the Mama’s and Papa’s and the soundtrack from O’Brother (if that makes any sense). Saying that I must confess that the 7th song “Before it Breaks” is one of the best songs she has ever sung…that is the kind of song that made me a Brandi Carlile fan…not many artists can bring tears to your eyes with heart wrenching songs of love and loss like Brandi…..but where are the rest of the songs? Sorry to say but I will be listening to her previous work when I need my Brandi fix….hoping her next album will bring her back to her roots….

Samantha Browns Theme Song. I have been wanting Dreams since I heard it during Samantha Brown's Behind the Suitecase show on the Travel Channel

Amazing. My husband surprised me with tickets to see Brandi for my B'day. It was one of the best concerts I have seen. Brandi's vocals are just mad , her opening act Katie Herzig was pretty cool as well. Believe me ,you will not regret spending a night with these chic's they rocked thru the night, Memphis , Tn at Minglewood .

Buy it - you'll love it. I saw Brandi live last night in Baltimore. It was an awesome show. I had her first two albums already, but I wasn't sure I wanted to get the latest. Then I saw her perform, and knew I had to have all her music. Amazing. Such a genuine talent and down-to-earth personality. See the band live if you can, but definitely get the album in the meantime.

ConanObrien Show. The remarkable&‘stunning female singer‘d sung a:‘beautiful song,which‘d my eyes:raining A-salty precipitation,which most‘f Y'all‘re in knowledge or not,but I'm unable to shed tears any longer,‘cause‘f my:‘horrific motorcycle accident where I'd not-knowingly passed away,3 times,said the emergency pilots,when they'd saved me from,“The Upper Room” on March 14th in:2004,whereafter I'd spent my:7&3/4 month coma in the hospital,but don't try‘ta stop:‘LIFE❤!”

Not bad at all. Very rich sound and her vocals are full and powerful. Girls got a nice set of pipes.

Yes!. Dreams is on this Disney 50th animation thing onTangled and I love it!

Brilliant.... Wow. Just. Wow. Brandi Carlile is the most talented individual I have ever laid ears on. I love all of her releases (and non releases) and this CD is simply amazing. You cannot even begin to imagine the soul moving that this CD will do to you. She is just downright spectacular. The only CD I want to take to heaven with me, or wherever I end up, is Brandi Carlile's Give Up The Ghost.

Really Special. Brandi is an exceptional talent with unsurpassed style and remarkable charm.

amazing voice, amazing music, amazing album. Don't know why exactly, and it seems impossible given how good she sounds in her recordings, but after seeing her five times in the last two and a half years, I can agree with all of the posters here: Brandi Carlile is one of those rare artists that sounds better in person than on an album. That being said, this album is a must-buy for anyone that appreciates crystal-clear vocals, lyrics that actually mean something, and emotion that you can feel deep in your soul. Love her, love this album.

Buy now!. One of the best albums ever!

So good. There isn't one bad song on this album... Every single one is amazing. Brandi and her band never disappoint.

Song "Dying Day". The song "Dying Day" is GREAT! I like it on so many levels, it's difficult to describe. Just so appealing! Brandi Carlile's voice is made for this song. Can't believe it was FREE! Way to go iTunes! Thanks so much.

DREAMS rocks.. My smooth jazz station changed formats and they switched to Adult Alternative. Didn't realize it till I noticed that Dave Koz and Kenny G are really rockin' these days. Never would have heard of this girl if I had reset my car radio stations. Very cool. It makes you realize how hard it is for talented singers to get noticed unless your putting out generic soft rock mush. Good luck to Brandi Carlile.

I'm hooked. I can't seem to get this album outta my head. I'm a newcomer to Brandi Carlile's music. I actually just happened to stumble upon her. However, after about six months of listening to her music, I'm hooked. If you're like I was and looking for something new...get this album. It's just on of those albums you put in and let play all the way through. PS - If you get to see her in concert, go. I saw her in New Orleansat the House of Blues. Great live performer.

Oh Brandi!!!. I too have seen Brandi, back in the days of Enumclaw WA!!! The first time I saw her I knew she was going places!!! Way to go! We are no longer in Washington, but we are certainly following your career. I am buying this album!!!

Brandi the Original. Brandi Carlile is one of the greatest preformers i have seen. ive seen her multiple times live and i have to say she is worth the ticket. her voice, and her spirit comes through her songs and i think that she is an amazing singer. she has songs that make you realize your not alone when you have problems and that you always have someone there for you. Give Up the Ghost is the album everyone can relate to whether your 65 or 13. if your thinking twice about buying this album dont.

wow!. Incredible She's possibly the most underrated artist out there. Buy this...you will listen over and over and over again...and, if there is blood in your veins, you will fall in love with this incredible soul, as I have.

Love it!!!. I had a 45 minute drive to an EMT class 3 times a week for about 3 months! Thank god for Brandi's Give Up the Ghost! It was my soundtrack for those three months and I still listen to it constantly along with her previous albums. I cant get enough of her music. She is even more amazing live! I have seen her 3 times now and am looking forward to seeing her again! Thinking about a road trip somewhere! ;-) Yeah, she is that amazing live!

Best yet.... I have been following Brandi for a few years now and I fall in love every time with her albums. When The Story came out I listened to it a hundred times and could never tire of it. I really thought it would be near impossible to top that album. But in true talent form, she blasts past the sentimental (and somewhat melancholy) songs of The Story in Give Up The Ghost. You are taken on this beautiful ride through the emotions of the heart in this album. The lyrics are so mature and thought provoking that you can see yourself in every song. That's what so wonderful about her music. It becomes so personal to you that you feel that it's part of you. Caroline, of course, I think is my favorite. A wonderfully fun and upbeat love song written about her niece, and collaborated on by Elton John. The perfect harmony that Brandi and the Twins produce is nothing but amazing. I can't help but listen to this album over and over!

Outstanding!!. Saw her live with my wife and family at the Keswick in (Philly area) the night the album released. WOW!!!... incrediable such passion and emotion a true artist. I have to admit that I wasn't a fan before the concert, but now I'm sold. "That Year" and "Caroline" my personal favorites; they are more then just a story, they are a novel filled with personal experience that Brandi was good enough to share with us. God bless you Brandi and crew. Bye far the best concert I have ever been to and again I was not a fan before I saw her. Go see her LIVE!!!

Why I am Here. I am here only from the 50 Disney countdown, Love That! And the Song!

Great music, wrong singer. Brilliant? No, not even close. The tunes are musically catchy...that is until it`s ruined by Brandi`s cat wails. How dare she be compared to K.D. Lang and Patsy Cline, both who are stunningly great vocalists. How Brandi got past coffee shops in Ballard, I`ll never know...

My ears feel real good.... This album is just plain great. I just wish there was more.

Magical!!. This album will blow you away with each song!! You must buy it now!! This album contains the best songs you will have ever heard! Brandi's voice is unforgettable in every song!

Raw & Fresh. With each album Brandi manages to put out something that is distinct and fresh and tells its own story, and this is no exception. I got a sneak peek at some of these jewels on her last tour. The quality of this recording is so raw. On some of the tracks I feel like they're sitting around in someone's living room- I love it. It's another perfect mix of melow and upbeat. Looking Out and Dreams will have you dancing in your driver seat, getting weird looks at the red light. The vocals on "That Year" and "Oh Dear" send shivers up my spine. While you're at it, pick up the single "The Heartache Can Wait." It's kind of a holiday ballad.

AWWWWFUL. absolutley AWFUL!! nails on a chalkboard!! do not buy!!!!

Better that The Story. The Story was good, but Give up the Ghost is even better! Brandi is an artist that has the ability to grow, and that is so special. Love it!

Awww-mazing Brandi. This album is fantastic. Some of her best work!!! Saw her live in Boise and she is better in person. Looking Out, Dreams, Before it Breaks and that Year. LOVE HER!!!!!

My favorite (so far). Definitely my favorite album she's got out yet!

Glad she found me with DREAMS. What a great artist! She got me hooked with DREAMS and has stirred my interest to find out more about what else she has done. The songs on her album "Give Up the Ghost" are deep and lasting. I enjoy many of her tunes, but especially love LOOKING OUT and DYING DAY. This is an album that I will listen to over and over, although there are no songs that I dislike.

Luckily this record has a second half.. I bought this record on the strength of "Touching the Ground", which is a pretty solid pop tune. All the rest of the songs here are strong as well and will appeal to most listeners. What I found was mostly pretty run of the mill, however, which can be effective if performed with unaffected emotion. Here Brandi sounds as if she's bored with her own lyrics, like they no longer have meaning. And when she would occasionally hit on an impacting moment it was usually thwarted by a screwball arrangement. There's a reason "Before It Breaks" is here twice, played almost identically: It's one of about two or three reasonably fresh tracks. If you're looking for this type of heart-tugging, seek out anything by Aimee Mann, who does it better without sounding like everybody else. In this record's defense, its second half, though completely poorly sequenced with all the ballads in a row, shows a barer side that works much better than the gussied-up first half. Every song on this record is solid and deftly performed and mixed, but it's just been done better before.
