These dudes rock. I only listened to one song : money for nothing, and now I'm a really big fan the song sounds really bad but the guitar work in it is amazing. Dire Straits rock!!!!!!

A little too mainstream. Dire Straits has a very distinctive sound, but this album is a little mainstream. However, there are good tracks like Money for Nothing and Brothers in Arms.

Best. Album. Ever.. By far my favorite rock album. Rich, complex, with a quality of lyrics far above the average rock band. Buy it and enjoy it!

I want my! I want my MTV!!!. ๐ŸŽต๐Ÿ’‹โค๏ธ๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆ

My first CD. After years - decades - of vinyl purchases, I finally went digital, and this was the first CD I ever bought. It did not disappoint, musically or sonically. Of course, at the time I was (and still am) a huge Dire Straits/Mark Knofler fan. Other than the self titled debut, this is DS's strongest LP - I mean CD - I mean digital download. Highly recommended.

Masterpiece. This album is a masterpiece!!l A must have!!

One of the best 80's albums. The musicianship in this work shows how far Dire Straits had come and what they could accomplish with their talent. This is definitely one of their best albums to date. You can argue, but you could be wrong.

I would give it 10 stars if I could.. By far one of the best albums ever!!

Best album ever recorded, by anyone....MUST HAVE ALBUM.. remember buying it when younger and thinking -masterpiece....grew up....lost the album and recently rediscovered a vinyl version....wonderful...get this! Do agree that current Knopfler solo work is great

Classically the best.. They don't come along like this too often in life. Every cut is a prize.

Archetypical album. I can't remember when I first heard this album, or when I realized these were new songs. Each song (with the exception, perhaps, of why worry), sounded to me like I had always known them and always would know them. I remember hearing the album as a kid with my friends, and in our college dorm, and listening to it with my dad, and then with my roommates just after college. Now, 20 years later, after losing the CD to a car stereo thief, I am buying the album again. Not sure why, as I can still hear every note as clearly as if it was playing. The band has that big, flowing, rolling sound, big musicality, strongly rooted in great musicianship. Even the synthesizer sounds are crafted and seasoned to blend into the richness of the tones rolling out of the guitar, base, and drum tracks that mark this album as one of the great works of the 1980s.

Love these guys. Amazing album

Brothers in arms. This is one of the better rock albums ever produced. It has many great songs and phenomenal guitar work.

Awesome. Knutty for knoefler said it best , the whole album is awesome , but the title track is by far, one of the best songs ever crafted.

Not The Original. Money for Nothing, with the now socially unacceptable verses removed, has become a repetitive and monotonous shell of its former self. Many works of art from former times could now be seen as offensive to some, why was this one edited?

Subtle and Magnificent. Ignore the pop songs, dig deeper into the album. Truly thoughtful. Listened to this as a teenager in the 80's. Went to war in the 2000's. What I heard as a kid rings true as an adult.

Reminds me of my Dad.... Every time I hear this album, it reminds me of my Father... I have his old vinyl that I play sometimes, but it snaps and crackles (which isn't a bad thing!) so I downloaded this so I can listen anytime! I love it! :)

Absolutely love this group. โค๏ธ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’œ

Hamed. Amazing album !

Unreal. The feeling put into the guitar by Mark on the title track is something of legend to me. That song is the most haunting song I have ever heard, and the best song on the album. Up there with Telegraph Road for best DS song.

Ignore the official iTunes review above. This is one of the most consistent albums from start to finish in the rock catalogue! I am shocked that that the title cut was not highlighted by the reviewer as being a masterpiece...it is still on my iPod's power rotation 25 years after release. The Man's Too Strong is another classic track. Knopfler demonstrates his genius as both a composer and instrumentalist on this must-have recording.

Haunting. How the iTunes review could not even mention the title track is mystifying as it remains the single best piece of song writing Mark Knopfler has ever done. The guitar work in this song is achingly beautiful and worthy of comparison to Gilmour and Beck at their finest.

Brothers in Arms full album review.. So far Away 5/5- A wonderfully nostalgic song about missing a girlfriend. Money for Nothing- 5/5 A Cool song with an amazing guitar Riff. Walk Of Life 5/5- Catchiest song of all time with a hook. Your Latest Trick 5/5- Jazzy feel and a good message. Why Worry 5/5 the most beautiful soothing song of all time. Ride Across The River 4/5 Mystical feel, pretty different. Still good though. The Man's too strong 4/5 upbeat powerful song. One World 3/5 weakest on the album by far. Brothers in Arms 5/5 The Greatest Song on the album with amazing lyrics and incredible instrumental parts. Best song on probably the best album of all time.

Incredible Music Experience. Put on the headphones or insert your earbuds and get lost in the music for an hour or so. You won't regret it. This is one of the finest albums start to finish I have ever owned.

Brothers In Arms. Masterpiece through and through

Dire Straits. I downloaded Money for nothin and the song is cencered from the orig. song. What's up with that?

Love it. Got this in An old bookstore for like 5 bucks and it was great- mark knopfler is a great guitarist!

The disc's too big, the songs are too long..... Obviously this is one of the classic albums of the 1980s, and important historically as the album that brought the then-nascent CD format to the attention of the masses. For those of us who grew up listening to the cassette or LP, however, it is mildly frustrating that today one can only buy the CD versions of the songs, which (if memory serves) for many tracks are significantly longer than the versions found on the cassette/LP. I own the CD, but from a completist point of view, I would pay money to also buy the shorter cassette/LP edits, if only they were available on iTunes.

Not the best. Brothers In Arms is overrated. Walk of Life is the WORST Dire Straits tune EVER penned. If I ever hear it again, I will poke out my eardrums. Unfortunately, it became a stadium anthem and just a pop hit that somehow resonated. Money for Nothing is OK, but redundant, and the rest of the record is forgettable for a Dire Straits effort. In their catalog, this is a less than stellar effort. Not worse than On Every Street, but certainly nowhere near their Eponymous debut, Communique, Making Movies or Love over Gold. It was jazzed up for the 80s and unfortunately got popular but never had the soul and grit of the first releases. Mark Knopfler's current solo work is SO much better to listen to for the real sound and soul of the man and his real band - Dire Straits.

Money for nothing !!!!!. I love the dire straits they rock best old school rock band I have ever listened to. My top three songs: 1. Money for nothing 2. Walk of life 3. So far away Thanks iTunes !!!!!!

Buy The ENTIRE ALBUM. One of two albums that i've ever bought the full album. I absolutely love this album by Dire Straits- every song on here is beautiful and fun to listen to.

Great album, and.... ...not to pile on the reviewer here, but..."Riding On The River" is reggae-- not blues, Latin and Caribbean. And, yeah...no mention of the title track?

Life Changer. "We have just one world, but we live in different ones." I received this album for my 13th birthday back in 1994. I was one of those albums that once I started listening to it, I couldn't stop. Every track on the album in exceptional in its own right. Years later, hearing the title track used in the closing minutes of The West Wing's 2nd season, I was brought to tears. Absolutely incredible album. It deserves to be absorbed.
