new fan. Previously not a M.A. fan. Saw the movie, remembered a lot of the original Lavoe hits. Same hometown- Ponce. I have to say Marc was phenomenal. Great tribute to a great former talent. Lavoe was not perfect, but was a sensational entertainer, and what a voice; not to mention the beat, part of 'salsa royalty', true historic music, like salsa was never again. The soundtrack of my childhood years and so many like me born in the 70s. Anthony is also a great talent, amazing voice and passion. Earned respects.

El Cantante. What a great selection of music. A true hispanic treasure of the music from the 80's.

What happened to Aguanile. Aguanile was one of the songs on this album and it’s not here and Aguanile is one of the best of this soundtrack.

Great album. It appears 2 me that some individuals just aren't Marc Anthony fans bases on the critism that I've read. I consider myself a fair critic no matter if I like the artist or not. As we all can agree, there's only 1 Hector Lavoe. Mr. Anthony does a great job in interpreting Mr. Lavoe's music thru an updated style whiile maintaining the classic sound. His vocals are just as good as Mr. Lavoe's but in his own, strong style. All of the percussions are on point as they were w/ the original artist. The only negative thing that I can say is that the album should've been much larger in order 2 include much of Mr. Lavoe's other & genuine music that we Latinos have grown 2 love & admire. N. El Cantante de los Cantante!!. I knew Hector Lavoe personally, and when I went to see the movie with Marc Anthony whom I'm a big fan of also, I could not believe my eye's!! The resenblanance was uncanny I remember crying during the movie, they were happy tears at all the hard work Marc Anthony put into the making of this historic movie! J-LO did a wonderful job in her role as puchi!! Well Marc if you ever read this I just want to say THANK YOU VERY MUCH for making this movie when I saw you on screen it really made me think of Hector, I'm sure Hector is smiling down on you from Heaven again Thanks RUBEN C P.S. A New Classic: A necessity for any salsa music recording collector.. I grew up listening to Hector LaVoe and was admittedly skeptical about this album, but after hearing it, I can't sing enough praises for this recording. The arrangements stayed true to the originals while bringing in something new and fresh to these classic songs. Marc Anthony's vocal interpretations of the pieces are bar none (and dare I say, surpassed the originator?). In the realm of salsa, if Marc Anthony's vocal chords were a violin, he would be a Stradivarius. This is one of my favorite Salsa albums of all time. I would recommend this recording to any salsa novice, and have often have purchased copies as gifts, returned with very positive feedback.

Mi Amor!!!. I loved the movie just as much as i did the soundtrack. I am puerto rican and my mother saw hector and the fania gang at madison square garden years ago and she couldnt believe how good the music was. Watching that movie made us get up and dance. Love love loved it!!!!

SOME SONGS CAN ONLY BE SUNG BY THOSE WHO POPULARIZED THEM. After hearing HECTOR "LAVOE" PEREZ sing these songs for many years, it is EXTREMELY DIFFICULT to hear others sing them. Marc Anthony is a good singer but I don't think he does a good job singing HECTOR LAVOE'S Hit songs. There is something LACKING here and if you've EVER heard the ORIGINAL and you are really into SALSA/MAMBO music you'll know what it is. Marc Anthony sounds lifeless singing these songs. I don't even know why anyone would get this when you could just GET THE ORIGINALS by HECTOR LAVOE. HELLO! WAKE UP! AGUZATE! It doesn't make sense to get these when ITUNES! has ALL the ORIGINALS. Marc is good singing his SALSA ROMANTICA and in ENGLISH, but NOT with this material.

Marc Anthony Is Perfect 4 This. This Is A Great Cover Of The Great Hector Lavoe, No 1 could have did this like Marc Did. For A Second You Would Almost Think It Was Hector Singing listen To Mi Gente especially

Use ACOUSTIC instruments, please!. I would have given this album five stars were it not for the flagrant and tacky use of canned strings. PLEASE, if you're going to arrange the instrumentation to include a string orchestra, then don't cheap-out and use a cheesy synthesizer to cover the string line. Do justice to Mr. Lavoe and his music(and throw some hungry orchestra musicians a little work) by recording with a full complement of strings. The singing/arrangements are great, but the use of the synthesizer cheapens the quality of the work(especially in the title track---yuck)!!!!

Marc Anthony the last of the" Salsero's con pantalones".. This man is Un-real, I am old school Salsero and Marc is the last of Heavy Hitter Salsero's of our time, Hector was LaVoe "LA VOZ" But Marc is Marc his style his voice, His Salsa, If Mr. LaVoe were Alive he would be proud of Marc as we are. Like I said Last of the "Salsero's con pantalones". This man is multi talented, Sing, act, Dance, He and his wife are both Triple threat's! Adelante Boriqua's WELL DONE! I am so proud of my people.

Marc Anthony Did It Again!!!!. Since I was 6 my parents always played his music so I been a big fan of him since. This cd and the movie was amazing, The song "El Cantante" makes me want to stop what I'm doing and dance and sing...Gracias para todo

Aguanile. They’ve removed Aguanile and that’s one of my favorite songs off this soundtrack.

Believe it or not.... this album is GREAT. Marc Anthony is responsible for making a good movie a pretty amazing movie. Even J. Lo's performance was pretty dead on. If you are hesitant to buy this [which you really should not be, though, i understand] you should rent El Cantante and then you won't be able to NOT buy this album. Impressive performances from both M and J. Buy it, Turn it up, Feel the live band and the captivating sound of M's intriguing voice, and ride the wave. Also, the film visually translates most of the lyrics of each of these songs which makes me understand why they were and still are, so moving. Buy it.

Greatest Salsa Soundtrack. Marc anthony did such a great job playing Hector Lavoe the music sounds great!!! I love every song!!!!

No good!. This is the worse imitation of Lavoe's recordings. Boring. You can never compare Anthony with such excellent salsero and sonero like Hector.

Outstanding ... I was not a huge fan of Marc Anthony until I heard this album. His vocals as a sonero were outstanding, he did the songs justice and I look forward to hearing more of this type of music from him. Excellent orchestra and backup vocals too. This album gets my vote at the Latin Grammys.

The Bronx is Burning with "salsa". Remember, Hector Lavoe was the man who blessed us with lyrics. Nothing taking away from Marc, he did an outstanding job playing the role Hector. The original songs sound better. Born the the Bronx in 1971 I remeber my father placing his house speaker outsid the window of are seventh floor apartment and Blasting Hectors music. These are truly great memories. Thank you Hector, you left us way to soon.. Go Yankees...

Hector y su musica entro los Estados en los '70s y todavia se escucha hoy. Su vida y musica era muy intersante y este cd es un bn "tribute" a su musica. comprate este cd, te gustara.

A Great Album. When you think of Hector Lavoe, what comes to mind? It is fair to say a Latin-American Salsa Legend! He left a legacy behind that will never be forgotten. Though he had a drug using issue, which took him to the grave, his music showed his best attributes. As far as Marc Anthony, he exemplified the qualities in Lavoe that everyone enjoyed which was talent to sing! If you haven't watched the movie, buy it. You won't waste your money. I say thumbs up, El Cantante! (La musica mejor, de Hectór Lavoe!)

Great Music. My girlfriend had asked me ? Have you seen El Cantante ? I said no but always wanted to . She has seen it once before . She rented it so we could see it . We ended up watching it 3 times . We both wanted the sound track . I had to have it . I realy like it . Now Im on the hunt for Hector Lavoe music . Ive already read a bio on him . All this within 4 days .

Imitar versus Interpretar. Ok. Considering that most of the people here are "boricuas" and can understand spanish well, here it goes. Aquí están criticando a Marc Anthony pq jamás se compara con Hector Lavoe; y tienen razón. Como Lavoe, ninguno. Aquí la diferencia es que el no esta imitando a Hector Lavoe, el esta interpretando un papel basado en la vida de Hector Lavoe atraves de su música. Marc interpretó a Lavoe en la película al igual que lo interpretó cantando sus canciones. El mejor ejemplo es cuando Jennifer Lopez hizo la película de Selena ella interpretó el papel de Selena pero la imitó en su música pq ella doblaba la voz de Selena en la película. Aun así todos sabemos que ella jamás hubiese llenado los zapatos de Selena pero cuando se trata de interpretación se la comió. O sea, Marc no esta tratando de imitar el estilo de Lavoe, ya el tiene el suyo por el cual tiene la fama que tiene, el simplemente esta interpretando su música. No esta llenando sus zapatos!

amazing amazing amazing. this is amazing. it one of the best soundtrack cds i have ever heard. and this is one of the best cds made b y marc anthony and jennifer lopez. this is a great salsa album to dance to. anybody who knows how to salsa dance should get this cd. and if you do not lke the whole cd just buy auanile and mi gente. good work good work

El Cantante. Marc Anthony definetly deserves a music and movie award. I truly believe that he did a wonderful work together with his beautiful wife. Yeah Marc Anthony might not be Hector Lavoe but he definetly has the voice that wins the heart of all us salsa lovers.
