Two great musicians having a great time. This album put a smile on my face from the first 30 seconds all the way to the end (and ESPECIALLY at the end) with the who-woulda-thunk-it bluegrass version of "Superfreak." The people who panned this CD are so stuck in their narrow definitions of music styles that they can't understand why excellent musicans such as Bruce & Ricky would want to stretch their wings now and then. They are both at the top of their game in this collection, and the rest of the band is amazing. There are some nice ballads here, plus hot up-tempo songs like "Dreaded Spoon" and "Come On Out." If you admire fine musicianship and have a good sense of humor, these tunes will be on your iPod "most played" list for a long time.

Violinist. Amazing that disparate artists like Hornsby and Skaggs can produce such art. Magnificent. Andy Leftwich and Stuart Duncan are the fiddlers.

violinist. Andy Leftwich is the fiddle player. He is the best there is!!!! Ride is his album on Skaggs Family Records. Check it out. Three ring Circle he is apart of as well. The Bruce and Ricky album will be a classic.

Great album. This is a album takes rock song and puts them in a blue grass tune. I frist saw this on cross roads on cmt. I got hooked as soon as I hear it.

YESS!!. I saw these guys on CMT's Crossroads...and was so hoping they would release this :) You will NOT be disappointed!

Unbelievable Collaboration. These two are a phenomenal combination; the blending of their voices and their styles is musical perfection. Every song is creative, unique, and intriguing.

Great Duo. Been a Bruce and Ricky fan many years...great album, but their live show is phenomenal. Do not miss the chance to see them play together, especially in a hall with great acoustics. Two hours of uninterrupted playing by some of the most accomplished musicians you will ever hear.

what a good one. (Hills of mexico) This song will work well siting next to a fire with some mountain dew in the Hills of Kentucky

Check these two out live if you get the chance.. I have been a fan of both since the 1980's. It took quite a bit of nerve for both to venture from their comfort zone to create this collaboration. Excellent work in creating something new out of something old. Isn't that the way music grows? Check out Ricky Skaggs work from the 80's if you think he is all Bluegrass (16 Greatest Hits)...some of the very best music dance music out there from that time frame. Bruce Hornsby pours his heart into singing Bluegrass and does a great job.

...and then God said let there be music!!!. When this deuet formed God cried. The style of it all and the harmony can just move you to tears. I'm not very emotional so I didn't really cry, but you catch my drift. What I really want to know is what's the name of the violinist? If you know, title your reveiw 'Violinist' .

I'd give it ZERO stars if you let me. One reviewer said God cried! Tears of pain maybe. My ears hurt! What were they thinking? Bluegrass SuperFreak!!! This is blasphemy to Bluegrass and of all people, Ricky Scaggs should know better. The only cuts on this album worth listening to are those featuring Ricky's great voice and mandolin and even then, some nasty background-can't-harmonize-for-love-or-money vocalist tries to chime in and screw it up! Speaking of love and money, the latter (money) HAD to be what this hot mess was about because it certainly WASN'T about the love of music which used to be Ricky's sole motivation. I used to like Bruce Hornsby too, but this horrible shameful blot on both of their careers is not only beneath both of them, but would be laughable were it not so dang sad! God may be crying alright! Ricky, go back to hard core country, bluegrass or gospel. You can rule any one of those genres, but NOT this one (you can't even name it).

I'm sorry, but this is not that good.. Hey Bruce and Ricky are great and this album has some good songs on it but come on don't make a remake of Super Freak, but hey if you are a fan buy this because it is alright.

Doesn't Get Any Better.... Hornsby and Skaggs make a great pairing on this record. Performing new material, and old-- while giving Hornsby songs like Mandolin Rain a new twist. Skaggs is a master of bluegrass performing with his band, The Kentucky Thunder. Two musical geniuses united for one great album, and it doesn't get any better than this.

awesome. great album great rhythm...oh and i saw bruce hornsby in tropical smoothie the other day, cool guy

Wow.. I saw Bruce Hornsby and Ricky Skaggs in concert together and I loved it! It is so funny though, because when they are in concert, one song may last 7 minutes when it is only like 3 minutes. I am usually not a fan of Country, but this is very good!!!

WHAT?!?!?!. The only reason this does not get 6 stars is becaues they leave out the 2 best songs played at the live concert in Nashville. The best rendition of Old Valley Road and The Way It Is I have ever heard, and they leave it off the album????? Now I have to go to the record store. Thanks iTunes...for almost a great collection.

GREAT WORK!. This is a great bluegrass album! Good mix of songs. Alot of upbeat bluegrass!

ricky skaggs and bruce hornsby. I like the new mandolin rain it has a very celtic sound. I'm 17 years old and i ve never heard of bruce hornsby before i saw him and ricky scaggs peforming on. Goodmorning america or the cbs early show, i can't remember. I know a lot of ricky scaggs music i am a big country fan of bluegrass, traditional and contempary country this is a great album great job bruce and ricky you ve hit the nail on the head

wow. lotta "experts" here . . . . they need to get a life . . . . .

Ricky Skaggs & Bruce Hornsby. Will play & replay this recording to the edge of annoyance. Just heard this duo live at "Merlefest 08" & they couldn't have been more on fire live than these cuts are in the studio. This should certainly lead to a Vol. II. Brilliant collaboration, I'd give 10 stars if possible!!!

Two Masters Meet !!!. These two are among the finest musicians going today. Both are underrated. "The Dreaded Spoon", and the rearranged "Mandolin Rain" are instant classics!!! This may be the finest album I've heard thus far in 2007.

Bluegrass Excellence. 4 stars only because IMO the greatest of the great deserves that rating. But this is good stuff! I am a progressive rock, alternative type but have always loved bluegrass, the original country. The collaboration between Skaggs and Hornsby is almost seemless. To listen to Mandolin Rain as a different score is almost haunting. I actually find myself listening to every word. Across the Mountains makes me visualize Ferlin Husky and a wash tub base pounding out that rythym. (That is a compliment) A Night On the Town is more Hornsby, but a solid cut. This album has many tracks that are sincere works and many blue grass artists could cover. But Skaggs and Hornsby definately put their stamp on a very good album, that I bought. That is also a compliment.

Should be a regular pair. Great alblum, they need to keep this going.

Love it!. Bruce was talking about this album when I last saw him play Newport and gave us a great preview of "The Dreaded Spoon" and the story behind it; fun stuff. Nice to hear Ricky getting back to bluegrass, and check out "SuperFreak", the video for this is on CMT and maybe still up on Youtube. This album is crisp and clean, a really great production.

Fantastic blend of styles. These are two of the finest musicians alive. I saw the CMT Crossroads special, and my only complaint is that the album doesn't include their rendition of "The Way It Is" and "End Of The Innocense", the two best songs from the TV special.

2 of these songs just kill me. The "Super Freak" cover w/ John Anderson is a great and fun little find but their version of "Night on the town" is utterly haunting. I don't think I've ever moved a song into my "special" playlist on just 1 hearing. Well, I just did exactly that.

10 Amazing Songs - Super Freak = Buy this Record!. This album showcases Bruce at his best and Ricky at his finest. I wish this was a double album! Ten songs is definitely not enough for such a great sound. I say "10" because I'm assuming "Super Freak" was a last minute joke that Ricky and Bruce added to the album at the last minute. After a couple of listens, the remake loses it's humor (meanders into 'strummin with the devil' territory). However, the remake of Hornsby's "Mandolin Rain" is spot on and, in my opinion, better than the original.

What Else WOULD You Expect?. Quality, richness, depth...... Toe-Tapping, Dancing with myself. Couldn't recommend this enough.

The truth about Mandolin Rain. What I know of this album, I only know because of one song - Mandolin Rain. Rarely have I felt so strongly about the arrangement of a simple song, and only rarely has it so influenced my opinion of an artist. Quite simply, this arrangement is beautiful. Adding Ricky Skaggs' incredible picking and playing of the mandolin to the arrangement was sufficient to breathe new life into this song. However if you know the original and its perky and positive tonality, it totally pales in comparison to the depth and intensity the minor key lends to it. Disclaimer: I saw Bruce perform this song live - no mandolin for miles - and it literally left me speechless. His skill on the piano is incredible! Bruce Hornsby is truly gifted as a pianist, and as an artist and a craftsman of music he is completely under appreciated. Yep. I am officially raving about this song and his talent. I highly recommend it. Have you noticed? ;)

Skaggs & Hornsby. A little disappointing as far as individual instrumental virtuosity that both musicians undeniably possess. It lacks that "back-room" sit down and jam spontaneity and interaction. However, the vocal synergy was surprisingly good.

Made my week. A terrific album. As for SUPER FREAK, my three-year-olds didn't know why I was laughing so hard. It's perfect.

CBS Early Show. I'm not a fan of country music but when I saw this morning's performance on the CBS early Show I had to but this! It is amazing!

The CMT Crossroads show was great. This album isn't.. I bought this album after watching the CMT "Crossroads" show. For some reason, "The Dreaded Spoon" made it onto the album, but other songs played on the TV show -- hits like "The Way It Is," "Uncle Ben," and "Old Valley Road" -- did not. This album isn't bad, but compared to the performance on the TV show, it is mediocre. The "Crossroads" performance was dynamic and incorporated both musicians' styles really well . . . this album is a so-so bluegrass record with some sprinklings of Bruce Hornsby here and there. Buyer beware . . . if you REALLY like Ricky Skaggs you'll like this album. If you expect a collaboration, you won't.

Amazing. I thought Ricky Skaggs and Bruce Hornsby were amazing. It was a great show. I recommend getting the album.

Violinist for Best-ears. Caught these guys doing "Dreaded Spoon" on an AM TV show the other day. Have always been a Hornsby fan. Nice to see him taking yet another turn. His diversity is very impressive. I just love to hear him play jazz piano. But, this is fun. Not necessarily my first choice in music styles, but unique and catchy enough to make me buy. And Andy Leftwich is the fiddle player - according to Cloud 9 lyrics.

Joyful Sound. I am a lifelong Hornsby fan, more inclined to his jazz leanings than folk roots. And I've never heard any Ricky Scaggs before this. But the sound of the two of them playing together is wonderful, especially on the #5 track, Stubb. Both Honrsby and Scaggs acquit themselves well on their solos, but whoever plays the guitar is stunning. The solo just flows like a river over the chord changes. It's a song that commands you to smile and dance. It's such a joyful sound.
