For Heads-heads only. I bought this on CD because all I had by TH was "The Best Of" and I wanted a little more, but I'm by no means a Talking Heads-head. For a person like me, this album isn't very good. The only song worth downloading is "A Clean Break (Let's Work)." Two other songs--"Pulled Up" and "The Big Country"--are great, but better in their original album versions.

If you have a head...... If you're into the Heads even just a little bit, buy this album. Better than Stop Making Sense, which is really, really good too.

The Name of My Favorite Album. Incredibly robust.

You must listen. The THeads prove that you can play wonderfully strange annoying music that uplifts and at the same time party and dance to. The first time I saw them a friend and I disagreed whether Dave Byrne was a genius or an idiot. I think that about sums him up. Great music!

A Must Have!. Quite possibly one of the best live collections available anywhere. Two and a half hours of music showing how creative and tight this band was live. "Warning Sign", "Memories (Can't Wait)", "The Great Curve", "Love -> Building On Fire" highlight and album full of gems. Not just for Head fans. This is the most played album in my playlist.

The Name of This Band Is Talking Heads. What a revelation this collection is! Takes me back to the heady days of New Wave--I actually saw the Heads in '77 (not knowing who they were beforehand) and was blown away by them live the first time--this captures the clarity of their instrumentation, the absolutely fresh approach to lyrics, and David's adorably quirky stage presence and enunciation. This album is indeed the cream, as I saw them several times in the '78 to '82 period, and it's all here. For a pure dose of the early, angry, too-smart Heads, try the intricate guitar and intense banter of "I'm Not In Love" and don't miss my favorite nerd love song, "The Book I Read" (which reminds me why I married my first wife.) You'll relate when he observes, literally from the 30-thousand foot view, that "I wouldn't live there if they paid me to!" in "The Big Country." A bargain at twice the price.

Most of a Classic Live Album. They all are right. In fact, not only is this the Heads best live album, it may well be the Heads best album. I mean, Remain in Light, its only compitition isn't as funky and (maybe) just a little more arty than the versions here. (Plus, this album doesn't include "The Overload"...) Problem: they omitted the "pleasent" intro to "Crosseyed and Painless" that was on the LP version--and made the whole song! Thus, I dock it a notch cos the LP version's better...

Classic Heads. The first 6 tracks have to be top ten for any live recording set on stage ever. The band is tight and melodical. The were young had nothing to lose and left nothing on the stage. Must have for Talking Headers

The Name of This Band is Talking Heads. If you liked "Stop Making Sense," you'll love "The Name of This Band is Talking Heads" that is less produced than 'SMS' with the violin-sounding, sonic lead guitar playing of Adrian Belew, which is a great added bonus to the music of David Byrne and the Talking Heads!

Simply put, The Greatest Live Album of All Time.. Talking Heads is one of the most influential and greatest bands of our time. The lyrics are poetic yet tangible and the music is brilliantly simple and catchy. You will, without a doubt, love every second of this great album. The sheer grandeur the band has when they start playing is incredible. Talking Heads are one of the greatest bands of all time because they've never disappointed and were always reinventing themselves musically. If only there was a reunion tour in the future...

If You Like Stop Making Sense....... You will love this album. This is an album that every Head's fan should own or if not, download. The Heads shined on the stage and their live versions of songs are hard to find. This album takes the early stuff from 77 and Buildings and Food, and makes them into wonderful live perfromances. A must have for any Heads addict.

OH YES. Quite possibly one of the best albums ever. Like the iTunes review said, i didnt know about it until after i had Stop Making Sense, but now that i have it, i can't stop listening to it. From the first songs with the original members to the rest with the new members, its all nonstop musical genius. If you own any Talking Heads album, make it this one!

Expanded version is excellent, but.... The energy of their live shows was captured perfectly here. I saw them live when they were touring in support of this album and they were SO good. So tight. I deduct 1 star for the expanded version because I don't see the point of repeating 2 songs twice on 1 album. Sometimes an original format like the vinyl version, even with its space limitations, can produce a tighter experience and editing down to the best songs. This is one of those cases. That aside, I was -- and still am -- a big fan of their music and what they accomplished as a band in the late 1970s and 1980s. Nobody sounded like them and many bands have tried to imitate that punk-funk sound. If you love live albums, this is one to get for you library. Enjoy.

Great early document of the band. I'm a casual Talking Heads listener, not a huge fan by any means, but this release is a great overview of the band's progression in their early years from 77-81. While Stop Making Sense (also awesome) is a slick, huge production, these recordings sound like tight, no-frills soundboard recordings that give an amazingly naked glimpse of the bands early sound. You really hear what a TIGHT, talented band they were, get a sense of Byrne's quirky spontaneity and the band's funky, rhythm machine character that would hit its peak with Stop Making Sense. This is like hearing the foundations of Talking Heads. I imagine this is a 'must have' for serious fans, but casual listeners like me can enjoy it too.

Their best album. I only listen to this album to get my Talking Heads fix

Classic. Now if you could only get the booklet.. I have been writing to Warner Brothers for years wondering why TNOTBITH had not been releaed with the rest of the catalog. Turns out my patience was greatly rewarded. Not just has this been remastered, but it's loaded with bonus and previously unreleased tracks. And you may ask yourself, why another live album? Unlike many live albums which capture a single night or tour, this album actually features the evolution of a band. Disc 1 captures the band from 1977-79 where they are essentially the four man band. The music is fairly stripped down and comparable to the songs they recorded on the first three albums (TH 77, More Songs About Buildings & Food, & Fear Of Music). You hear them in small clubs and gradually larger audiences. Then of disc 2, they tackle the material of Remain In Light with more complex African rhythms and funk beats. Here, the band is forced to double its size with the amazing Steve Scales on percussion and Adrian Belew adding fantastic guitar solos. Some may wonder why some songs are repeated on the album. The early version called Electricity which is more rock later becomes Drugs, the ambient version featured more like on Fear Of Music. There are other repeats here, Psycho Killer and Stay Hungry. Again we see how the songs evolve over time and the difference with a small and big band. All featuring great sound and remastering. I penalize the album one star for one major problem which is the fault of iTunes. You can't publish the booklet that comes with the CD (yay old technology!). It's stuffed with photos, liner notes, and several reviews of the various shows. This recording is as much an autobiography of a band on the rise as an essential live album. It's a great bookend to Stop Making Sense. The download is great, but the actual CD package is a must have. Pick this up!

The Name Of This Band Is Talking Heads. I never write reviews, but have to tell everyone how excited I am that this record has been re-released. I have been depending on a tape I made of the album in 1982. This is be far their best album. They are on fire throughout - I particularly love their version of Take Me To the River on this album - it far surpasses their studio version and the live version on Stop Making Sense. Listen with delight!!

The name of this band is Talking Heads. It's a great album. Unfortunately, "Electricity (Drugs)" is vastly inferior to "Drugs" on the original vinyl release. That was my favorite song. Total bummer. Two star penalty.

Oh Yeah!. Its like every good song from every talking heas album on one cd! But you know what I hate? When the new pop junk sings (or talks) about stuff that makes sense on contact. Your supposed to think about the lyrics in a song, not just listen to the lame drum beats behind them. I think the phrase "I'm a pimp" makes more sense than any lyric from Don't Worry About the Government, Psycho Killer, or any talking heads song. But is it as interesting? Of course not. Dom

Name of this Album is Killer Live. On a live album it is rare that you get the perfect rock and roll storm: a band in their prime, a band that is psyched to play the tunes they are recording and lastly a true high quality sound recording. For Heads fans this is a MUST HAVE. The band was at its creative peak and had yet to be weathered by the buzz saw of fame and public srutiny. They take chances by bringing in more musicians and allow them to add their special ingridients but don't allow anything to dominate their work. I don't know who thought about using a killer mixing board but whoever it is a) our ears and archives thank you b) is it still too late to convince producers to not skimp on the recording equipment? The music speaks for itself.

When Talking Heads Talk (LIVE), You Have To Listen!!!!. I had the vinyl version of this and was astounded, then finally 2 decades later here it is in it's digital form.First off, the album was already recorded fantastic so it is no wonder that now on CD it goes beyond fantastic to a must listen, must own compilation of music by one of the most intriguing bands of the late 70's and 80's.

Like a cool, clear, gushing spring of musical talent. This album offers an extremely good sampling of some of Talking Heads' greatest works presented in a coherent manner. The clarity of the sound quality is off the hook for LIVE SONGS. I have been listening to Talking Heads since before I was born and finally decided that I liked the band too much not to own all the albums I could find. The songs that I have never heard are great and give me new insight into what, musically, this band is capable of. The songs I have heard over and over and thought I new proved to me that with a few simple changes, a band can create something new from something old and timeless. For those holding off on buying this because you already own most of the songs on different albums, I encourage you to buy this one. You will not be disappointed.

This is a compilation of reasons why Talking Heads might be the best band ever. Easily the best live album I've ever heard. Maybe in the top 5 for my all-time favorite albums.

A Song About Nothing?. The T-Heads could be considered as at least 2 bands, maybe 3, depending on the era when they made their music. This album shows the first 2 periods: of great straightforward songs powered by frenetic energy and complete unpretension, morphing into one of the most experimental bands of their times. After all, the live songs of the second half of this album are infused with the extra skill of Adrian Belew, simultaneously of King Crimson fame. This album is great, lying alongside a handful (at most) of other live album masterpieces, for which one will have to scour the discographies of other innovative and hardworking rock and pop bands. Anybody who likes good music should give it a try. So what about the question: Is a song like ``Don't Worry About the Government" really a `song about nothing' (Seinfeld style)? We would have to ask the T-Heads, but I don't think so. When you compare it to the cliche topics of most rock and pop songs, you appreciate the clear simplicity. A song about something, not necessarily attempting to be overly deep, but at least honest and great to listen to.

The Name of This Band is Talking Heads. This is the band with the "sincere" energy and the hunger of individuals not jaded by popularity. It's as if they were doing it for themselves in these more innocent and "real" days of Talking Heads. It's David Byrne not trying to be David Byrne. These were the days! This is a GREAT live project that captures the band in each phase. I was lucky enough to be there for 2 of the live performances represented and they truly were still an underground band. With about 5 bands on before them at the Capital Theater in NJ on a weekend (who even remembers where this place was), us fans were dead tired by the time they came on. Found out later they were angry that the fans were a bit dead but I doubt they realized the crap we sat through before they came on many hours later. Central Park shocked us fans as we were used to the four piece and what? I brought a ton of friends to see them for the first time...I wasn't sure at that time...I liked the foursome but what the heck I adapted and enjoyed the new direction after a while...my friends hated it.

bong. Sorry, couldn't think of a title for this. More casual fans might start with Stop Making Sense, but you could start here too, sorta the birth of college rock. Makes one wish that they did a live record after Naked, actually. History shows the Heads to be one of the more enduring bands in rock music and their creative trajectory, all killa no filla attitude and all around fun have kept all of their albumns on my playlist over the years. Hipster quiz: what is the alternative verse in Psycho Killer? Worth it to find out.

9.99.... I wish!. It's a whopping 24.99 here in Canada...... But probably worth it!

Astonishing document of a band at its peak. I knew and loved all of these songs in their original incarnations, but never heard this album before last year. The performance are so crisp, the recording quality so polished, it's hard to believe it's a live performance. In other words, it boasts the energy and spontaneity of the best live albums without the audible compromises that normally accompany them. Plus -- good gravy! -- 33 fantastic songs for $9.99! I'd have to pay three times that much to buy the physical CD. This is the best iTMS bargain I've ever encountered. An absolute must.

Fantastic value for money!. This is amazing value for money - 33 songs for only a fiver, and it covers the Heads through their most formative years. The original vinyl album is extended with more songs from the same sets AND most of the songs from the legendary and hard-to-find Warner Bros Live US radio-station-only release. Great to hear the Heads go through different versions of their classics. Buy it, you won't be disappointed!

talking heads. the price is great had on vinyl years and years ago still one great lp just love t/h wish they were still together never did see them in concert thanx i-tunes

Documenting an era. A great introduction to Talking Heads for the uninitiated, and great value on iTunes. The early tracks really do sound like they were recorded in the living room featured on the album sleeve. Simple melodies, tightly executed by a four-piece with something to say. The later tracks show how the band had matured and developed, with African influences liberally evident from the 'Fear of Music' and 'Remain in Light' era. A real treat is the guitar wizardry of a young Adrian Belew on these tracks, particularly "Crosseyed and Painless", which has all the hallmarks of his work the following year with King Crimson ('Discipline'). Well worth listening to a great band at its pomp, before it lost its way.

New To Talking Heads. What a great album at a fantastic price. Having just discovered Talking Heads - how did this band pass me by? - I've never stopped playing this album since I bought it a couple of months ago. Treat yourself before they up the price.

One of the Best Live Albums Ever. Absolute classic......."pulled up is an amazing live track".... this is one of the best live albums ever produced. A must have!!!

Bargain! Great album, Great price.. 5 pounds for 33 songs? You should be sold already. 2 and a half hours of excellent performances of great songs by a brilliant band? For only five quid? Snap it up sharpish!

A real bargin. This is an essential purchase. Some of the bands best tracks are here and is excellent from start to finish.

I got some groceries, some peanut butter, enough to last a coupla days. Bit rate only 128 kbps! Not sure why. This is my first purchase from itunes - they aren't all like this are they? Nevertheless I guess it adds to the lo-fi charm. Otherwise would be a 5. I'm really looking forward to my walk into the office tomorrow! Hurrah.

Even better 19 years on.... I had forgotten what a work of genius this live album is. I had it on vinyl back in the day and thought it was wonderful then, but this is so much better with the extra tracks. This is Talking Heads at their very best and if you only buy one Talking Heads download it should be this one...

Sheer brilliance. I wrote a review of this album when i brought this on itunes ages ago, but it seems to have fallen off somehow. Anyway this is a stunning album of great Talking Heads tracks, and strangely enough itunes have actually chosen a good price which is unheard of, i hardly ever buy off itunes for that reason. If new to the heads try this as a great start to listening to sheer brilliance.
